The problem with Nigerians especially the educated ones is that history seems to be a non-existent event.
First, that folklore is a made up one. No Benin man believes that shit. Benin likely migrated from the Noks, many of their art and metal works show that.
Then the other issue here, which is whether Ijaw residence have the right to constitute a ruler over their domain.
Legitimately, there is nothing wrong with that. Gele-Gele might not be Benin land. Because at the height of its power Benin Kingdom extend to present day Togo. Gele-Gele, The region around Edo, Delta and Kogi States were vassal states to Benin with many of them claiming origin from Benin.
Whether the Ijaws in Gele-Gele migrated to the region or they are aborigines. Living there for centuries have made them owners of the land. Note that it is this same issue that is the bone of contention between Israel and Palestine, the former argues that they lived in the land before the Arabs and the Turks expelled them from the land.
Besides, where would people who have lived in an area for centuries mass-evacuate to?
Is it that they should not have a leader over themselves because of a traditional folk tale that is centuries old? Bleep that! Benin should also tell Lagos not to have an Oba because Lagos was once a colony.
After all this we should know that except Benin becomes a country, all lands belongs to Nigeria. Lands that have no direct ownership except on the mouths of folk tale tellers, should not be an avenue for a bigger group to lord over a smaller one.

And you know the ijaws lived there for centuries because... you were there to witness it happen ?
Enogh with the stories, let us have a fact-based discussion.
All precolonial maps and notes show the region as being part of the Benin Kingdom.
You are part of the problem which you are comlpaining about.
I have just noticed that you use the word Benin without knowing its meaning.
Don't confuse Benin City with Benin Kingdom.
The Benin Kingdom has a capital which was named, Benin City.
The Benin Kingdom was a country contrary to what you seem to think.
And its King is Omo n'Oba n'Edo.
It is funny how you exibit the worse version of what you accuse other nigerians, you are far from being self aware.

I guess precolonial maps and notes are now "tales from story tellers".
What you don't understand is that Gelegele is not a land with no owner, it is part of the Benin Kingdom of which the king is the Oba of Benin: Omo n'Oba n'Edo. I just hope the british museum and all european libraries hosting these historical documents know that they are "Benin story tellers"

The problem with you ijaw is that you migrate into a land and rather than educate yourself on the history of the land and its people, you just assume that either the land has no owner or you can just make up stories to annex the land.
That is why you keep on making the most laughable claims which everybody know are false.
Next time you want to "land-grab" make sure the land doesn't belong to one of the African people with the most documented history ever.
And for those who keep using the expression "documented history" frivoulously, I mean: History backed by proof and evidence ! Not unsubstantiated stories !

Ijaws like trouble, they have forgetten that the Benins and other tribes in Edo state are also War tribes.
In this case, there is no contest, you cannot be a visitor in another man's house and want to claim Lord over his property.
I hope this is peacefully resolved!

Don't include the Esans, Owans, Etsakos, etc. in this nonsense. The Binis should fight their own battles.

How can you call Ijaw people ugly? Ijaw women actually look better than Bini women. Hahaha generally speaking, Bini people as a whole are ugly. The other tribes in Edo State are the ones that have decent looking people.

You people still don't know what you are up against.
The Oba of Benin is the Oba of all the people you have just named.
Eventhough I have said this many times in here you still don't get the fact that Benin Kingdom contains the entire Edo state and you keep confusing Benin Kingdom with Benin City (the capital of Benin Kingdom).
You guys should really get educated before making fools of yourselves.
The King of the Edos is Omo n'Oba n'Edo !
You claim to be indigenes of Edo state, yet you know nothing about the people !
You say these Edos should not join the fight yet it is their land Gelegele which you are laying claim to. It is their King whom you are insulting.
You peoples lack of education will be your ruin.

I just don't know how many times I need to say this before it enters some dull ijaw heads:
The Oba of Benin is the king of Benin Kingdom, Benin City is only the capital of Benin Kingdom ! The actual title of the Oba of Benin is Omo n'Oba n'Edo ! The entire Edo state is just a tiny part of Benin Kingdom.
You guys will be surprised when the war starts and you see the entire Edo people fighting on behalf of their King.
In warfare knowing your ennemy is crucial, and you guys have failed that completely.
Do yourself a favour and just fvck off and try your land grabing stupidity elsewhere.

Just one question: where did benin republic get its name from ?

Before I answer your question, where did cote d'Ivoire or ivory coast, gold coast or ghana, slave coast or nigeria get there name from

Please point to me 2-3 evidence of Benin presence and influence in benin republic

I am asking because it seems you didn't see the irony when you claimed that the Benin Kingdom didn't extend as far as ...wait for it..."Benin Republic". You can say such a thing and not feel dumb ? SMH

I hope you realise that there was history before the Europeans arrived?

I also read when you typed about any war the "yorubas" fought with the British.

I will not go far, just read about Oba Kosoko. I also want to mention he was of Benin heritage

You need to understand the word "History".
You guys often confuse it with the word "story".
What exactky do you mean by " the europeans arrive" ?
For your info, history is based on evidence, written documents (written hundreds of years ago, that is the kicker), not your usual story story.

Ok since you can answer my question then it is clear you are really confuse and cannot understand the irony of your question. The people with you people is that you believe your bullshit too much and has removed all logical thinking .

First of all Benin kingdom not an empire did not conquer any thing to the west. What we had in a Lagos then were villages of "primitive" settlements. The ijebus back then did not even consider us as a treat to their thread ( well that is another topic) the Benins were going to Benin republic for trade but arrived in present day Lagos island and were loved by the people (on second visitation) not that you had any influence in benin republic. Back then present day Lagos, badagry to port novo ajasan etc where all considered together as slave coast based on the heavy slave trade going on in that axis and given the fact that the monarchy was of Benin heritage (Which I am part of) they called it bright if Benin and hence the name Benin republic.

Benin had no influence, name , culture and monarchy beyond Lagos island.

I don't want to go to deep history with you of anago etc

I just dont understand these yoruba guys.
They want to reduce Benin relevance while at the same time they want to claim Benin heritage.
They claim you as their brother only in order to reduce your worth.
What kind of person would want to have a brother who thinks insulting you is the best way to claim you as his brother.

So Benin lineage and greatness is no longer by blood but by supporting lies. So if I claim that Lagos or Ghana is Benin I will be a proper Benin man.
