It’s not about expectations, but something that shows appreciation....like the northerner that got a scholarship to Ph.D level from Mr. NNPC himself who saw it fit to do that out of the nation’s money....where is he today to do same to her....or is she not the best and also worth it??

That's really bad of UNN, wen ABU dey give best graduating student from each faculty brand new HP Laptop and the Overall was given scholarship for Masters and PhD. UNN is there giving its best graduating student just 26K dat is stinginess to the highest order #Too_bad

I wonder the reason for the fuss. It isn't new, unn always give 5k to their best graduating. Normally, it used to be 2500 but it has increased over the years. it's just a token.. I may be wrong but don't think any other federal University gives out cash to their best graduating student, ask around.

The recognition is what matters, not the award. After her service year, she's coming back to take up the position of a graduate assistant.

Here where I live, most young people create their own business by 18. I was always the best student in my university, so I thought I must be more intelligent that all the white people here. Only to realize one fateful day that other students were all busy innovating, and creating their own firms and gave little or no time to studies.

You are right. Does messi, neymar, ronaldo, etc. have tertiary education? Yet they collect weekly salaries from 500k euros. Many first class graduates are still jobless. Education is meant to polish your talents not substitute it.

hey guys I know it sounds quite funny and discouraging especially to students that aims at such feats,, but the OP might not have painted the real picture. I am a student of UNN, what she actually won OFFICIALLY FROM THE SCHOOL for graduating as best student is N75, 000, and the total sum she won is much more than that, I can't be specific, but is definitely much more than what the OP stated (faculty price of N20,000, Departmental price of N5,000, UNN general study/alumni association price of N40,000, Uzor Orji Kalu award of N250,000, Chinekwu Osita-Izukanne award of N5,000)... I know it's still not commensurate, when you consider the huge amounts people win from frivolous competitions and tournaments, but when you consider that she can easily assess grants and scholarships, if she wants to continue in the academic line. Also remember that UNN is a public school, and mainly private entities gives that much price winning...Also, yet, those huge amount are being given because much money is being made from such events as they are usually in the showbiz and entertainment world; this lady wasn't entertaining anyone while making her straight A's asides herself and her loved ones... My own main issue is that all through the awards, about 80% of those who won were ladies. ..
