We dont appreciate the import of national forests, both at scientific amd social levels. If we did, the highway wpuld have easily bypassed it. And why Katsina Ala? |

naijaking1: The governor is a dummy surrounded by yes men. It the only reason a professor of environmental studies can mess up EIA 3 times for idiotic reasons. The road goes to Katsin Ala because the port is supposed to serve North central and East. Even if one doesn't give a damn about environmental concerns (which many hungry, stupid Nigerians clearly don't, given how they regard all wild animals merely as potential "pepper soup" ), it ought to be highly disturbing that a major project like this should be executed without giving proper compensation to the owners and residents of all those places which will be demolished. This utter indifference to individual property rights is an even bigger obstacle to long-term development than any potential delays to the super-highway itself: who will want to bring their hard-earned money into a place which doesn't respect its own home-owning voters? I understand that many people in Nigeria are impatient to see meaningful development, but simply swatting aside the property rights of those to be affected is not the way to go about it. Those who are happy to see such terrible precedents set in the name of "development" will have no leg to stand on if it's their turn tomorrow to have their houses and farmlands suddenly seized and paved over by their governors in the name of "development". 4 Likes 1 Share |

But come to think of it, Bakassi is not a Nigerian territory, so it would be out of place to contemplate construction of a deep seaport on territory that has been returned to Cameroon by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in 2002, and is currently under the absolute administration of Cameroon. Encroaching on Bakassi could send Cross River State into perpetual poverty. Therefore it should be stated clearly that Bakassi is not within reach of Nigeria. The fact that Cross River State was declared non-littoral by the Supreme Court repeatedly in 2005 and 2012 was not an economic nemesis, as several economic corridors are open to the state, such as tourism and agriculture where the state is doing very well. Overstretching resources into an area that involves unlawful encroachment on Cameroonian territory could never be advantageous to the state as this will result an over stretching of resources. However if Bakassi is anticipated there must be sufficient guarantees to investors that their funds are not being gambled. |

henryhemon: Im amazed at these nonsensical questions. The issue isn't whose land he's using but the lack of compensation and lack of care for EIA. The second question is as daft as first because it misses point. Most rational people understand even if they dont know nitty gritty details. 1 Like |

Blue3k2: You made it sound daft yourself by saying he is using the state's land. Like was he suppose to use other state's land? Point is when you 're writing make your information clear cuz at that point no one is in your thoughts to know the message you 're trying to pass. I'm certain that if you had mentioned compensation in your write up then it would 've been daft of me to pose those questions to you. Also you need not to resort to insults to pass your message. |

henryhemon: Stop these daft replies I'm wondering about your mental state. In what world does it make sense to use 25% of the states landmass for 1 project? Do I have to mention compensation before you understand how dumb that is? The states land refers to land within the state boundaries in this contex since you want to play Harvard professor. No that doesn't mean use another states land. You thought process is utter nonsense. My criticism is harsh because your comments lack any sort of logic expected from an reasonable individual. 1 Like |
