This tread is also about how to prepare adequately to land in Canada without much challenges. I am of the opinion that issues like FRSC letters, bridging courses that can be taken in Nigeria, Flight tickets from Nigeria, experiences at the airports etc and anything else that will prepare you to land in Canada gently are very important topics. @TribeD, thanks again for pointing me to the right direction regarding the FRSC email addresses. There are people on this tread who demand money to 'help' people to get this letter, when all that is required is a simple letter to the right email addresses. aklas87: 6 Likes |

Hello Everyone. I recently just found this thread. I have lived in BC, Manitoba and Ontario so if you have any questions relating to those provinces, I may be able to answer them. 20 Likes |

staronthemoon: You are most welcome here. Your wealth of knowledge will be of immense help to us. Please stick around. I haven't read much about BC. Not many people go there. How was it living there? Is it as expensive as people make it out to be? Are there job opportunities? 1 Like |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by staronthemoon: 5:50pm On Dec 04, 2017 |
SlowlybtSurely: Vancouver is expensive. The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment is $2000. The average rent in cities outside of Vancouver in the lower mainland are more affordable but they are typically higher than what can be found in towns/cities in the prairies (Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba) and Atlantic provinces (New Brunswick, PEI & Nova Scotia). Many people commute from the surrounding areas to Vancouver for work. There are job opportunities in BC but not as much as Ontario(specifically Toronto & Ottawa) and Alberta for English speakers. Additionally, salaries tend to be a little lower in BC than other provinces. The weather in BC is not as extreme. The coldest it ever got when I was living in South Western BC was -10°C. It hardly ever snows either. There aren't as many black people per population in BC compared to the prairies, Ontario and Quebec so it is easier to feel homesick. 22 Likes |

Feygbe: I am currently living in Ottawa. It is a great place to live, especially for families. Average wages are higher than in other cities and housing is more affordable than Toronto and Vancouver. There are a lot job opportunities in Ottawa, specifically in the government and technology sector. The only disadvantage to Ottawa for Nigerians is French. Many jobs in Ottawa require being able to speak both French and English, especially in the public sector. If you are bilingual and have a post-secondary degree, you will easily be able to find a well-paying job. If you can't speak French, finding a job is a lot more difficult but still possible especially if you are skilled in engineering/programming. 8 Likes 4 Shares |

donrabii: I was having the same challenge (see in my posts) until I decided to look at airbnb .didn't look there previously because my better half is adamant that we get our place before we land for convinience sake. Guess what, lots of beautiful options to choose from , it's furnished too and for a fair price . With what I have seen so far, Im confident there will be lots of wonderful places to choose from to rent . I guess the real estate websites are not just enough. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

revlane: I believe these are probably never requested for, however, for some regulated professions, the professional body may request for your credentials (or credentials assessment for Canadian equivalency) as part of the registration process. For these professions, being registered can be a big part of being shortlisted for an opportunity. Again, there are exceptions. 1 Like |

Good All, Thank you all for the information provided so far. I have a question related to job application from Naija before arriving Canada. What phone number do i use on my CV? I changed the address to the address of where i'll stay in Canada. I'm worried they may decide not to contact me if they notice the Naija number. Please any advice on how to deal with this is appreciated. Thank you. |

Hello Everyone, Compliments of the season. A Sister needs your help here. After 2 PGD programmes, my spouse and children have tried visiting during my programmes but was denied. I am tired of living without my family. I have a 3yrs work permit running but my visa has expired. I want to renew my visa and if possible apply for them. Please what do I apply for ? 1. Work permit for spouse +visiting my son.+ Visiting for myself. 2. Visiting for all. 3.visiting for self and my son and later work permit for spouse. 4, PR straight for myself or for all . Kindly advise Thanks for your prompt response and God bless you. |

It is a decision you would have to make on ur own. What I would do though is- Apply to renew ur visa so you can contimue ur work permit, once renewed apply for PR. nifeicon: |
