A very big security problem is headed to Africa from China. Criminal gangs there have been manufacturing methamphetamine(meth) industrially for Australia and US. They have recently made links in South Africa, Egypt, and Nigeria to distribute in Africa, because of weak law enforcement the drug will wreak chaos. https://www.apnews.com/2637ccad7d4a424ab9b3ec855dc3fca1 http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2017-11/28/content_35104437.htm 1 Like

The exercise, code named Mashariki Salaam II, is a crucial milestone on EASF's Strategic Plan 2015-2020 which spells out, among others, the organization's objective of maintaining a well-trained and regularly exercised force, ready to conduct peace keeping missions in the most effective way possible. The Guest of Honor during the opening ceremony was the Sudan Army Deputy Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Yahya Mohamed Khair, who is also the Chairperson of the EASF Chiefs of Defence Staff. During his keynote speech, Lt. Gen. Khair welcomed the FTX 2017 participants to the Republic of the Sudan and reassured them that his Government was doing everything possible to ensure a successful conclusion of the exercise. The Head of Mission, who is the immediate former Director of EASF, Amb. Issimail Chanfi reflected on the long journey the regional peacekeeper has covered over the last couple of years. He commended the people of the Eastern Africa region for the support they have accorded the organization ever since its inception. The EASF Director, Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh underscored the importance of capacity building in the enhancement of the Full Operational Capability (FOC), a status which EASF attained in December 2014. EASF is the first Standby Force on the African Continent to acquire this status. Exercises such as the current FTX play an important role in ensuring that peacekeepers are ready to conduct Peace Support Operations (PSOs) when tasked to do so at any time. All 10 EASF Member States are well represented in the exercise. 1 Like

NHK films China's military base in Djibouti NHK has taken rare footage of China's military base in the eastern African country of Djibouti. China set up its first overseas military supply base in the African nation in August. The video shows the base surrounded by walls that appear to be about 8 meters thick. Soldiers can be seen at a monitoring tower. There is also a building that may be a command center, a 4 or 5-story housing unit, and the roof of what looks like a helicopter hangar. It seems that the base has been designed to accommodate military units for long periods. Analysis of satellite imagery reveals that a 400-meter-long helicopter pad and a pier for military vessels are under construction. The Chinese government says the supply base is for anti-piracy measures off Somalia. But its military has conducted live-fire drills at the base. The United States and other nations are concerned that China might use the base to increase its influence in the Middle East and Africa. Djibouti is in a strategically important area where the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meet. The US and French militaries, as well as Japan's Self-Defense Forces, are stationed in the country. China views Djibouti as a point linking China, Africa and Europe in its "One Belt, One Road" initiative to create an economic zone covering the regions video on the link https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20171203_12/ |
