Those were for a dead rubber game and a friendly game. Those games were of no consequence.

I can't begin to imagine the nightmarish prospect of losing Balogun, Ekong, Ndidi, Mikel, Moses, Nacho to injury before the WC.
you mean the way Argentina can't imagine losing Messi, Dybala, Aguero, Mascherano and Otamendi to injury before the World Cup?

You know why they can't imagine that? Because the likelihood of losing that many key players before the World Cup is lower than the likelihood of Nigeria winning the world cup.

He has only CHAN to prove himself if he get the nod over Ezenwa which i doubt cos Ezenwa is the captain.

I use to have so much confidence in Ezenwa's ability, but after his poor performance against Argeria, I seriously doubt his potentials. I want him to be replaced with a better person. His place shoud be 3rd keeper role. angry angry

Yes Algeria match exposed him and those errors are just too fundamentals for a national team keeper.

He has played nothing this season.

But it's working for him and it's his style.

He can only go that far with small relegation-threatened-teams with kids as players.

He'd fail woefully at an higher level when he's asked to manage mature world class players if he doesn't change his attitude.

I wish him well though.

Friends, Countrymen, Nairalanders,

Re: Goalkeeper issues ( to be or not to be?)

First of all, everyone is right from all angles of discourses. Those of the school of thought that world cup is not for kids and those that believe chicken came first before the egg.... or should I say the egg should be allowed to develop into a rooster.

What we need to put into perspective is quality. While Enyeama is arguably our best goalkeeper, currently he hasnt played any match since forever. Thats where reflexes get strained. So evidently he isnt so much in contention. Well perhaps if he gets a club as Rohr has stipulated and remains match fit, that may change.
But objectively, if we all know him to have a history with his coaches, why risk the unity of the team for someone as polar as Enyeama? I rest my case on him

Uzoho

I had to go rewatch the match against Argentina today and frankly, friendly or no friendly, the dude showed courage and his talent is not in doubt at all. He showed no signs of jitters at all. He was not melodramatic. He played his game as he was supposed. What we also need to understand with respect to comparing this dude with Ezenwa is the quality of training they go through at their respective clubs. You cannot compare both qualities. Uzoho is more exposed to quality training as compared to anything obtainable in Nigeria. Or at least I would like to think so.

I am of the school of thougt that playing in a lower division doesnt always reflect one's true abilities/potentials. Some of these things are beyond human control. For instance you cant help a scenario where your coach just doesnt like your face for whatever reasons best known to him. Some are just outright racists. Sometimes the indices can be as a result of bad player agent. So those that seemingly got it right and got first team football of top clubs should thank their stars. As the bible says, the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. They just had their chance and time. So all these talk sbout top quality clubs sometimes is not down to a player. I can understand if you are messi or Neymar. But this is a case of exceptionally talented players. Bottom line of what I am saying is that league rating should not be the yardstick for measuring quality. How many Nigerian goalkeepers play professional abroad in the last 15 years? I mean players that actually left the shores of Nigeria. How many of them play for Juve? BARCA.? Real Madrid? LIVERPOOL.? Bayern? Everyone took the cool routes... Enyeama included!

And we must understand that National team chances was what made Enyeama known to scouts worldwide. Otherwise, he would av been like them Femi Thomas, Ojo Olorunleke and Sunday Rotimi among others. In other words, to get a player known, he needs opportunity from his National team. That said, quality is the key word here. If you have it, you have it! End of discussion.

Akpeyi
I dont want to flog his story more than I already have in the past. We all know the scores. What we need to critically understand is that a lapse in concentration is all it takes for a game to be turned around. And thats why there is no room for sentiments. A school boy error like Akpeyi's as seen in the match against argentina, if it were in a proper match setting is a red card offence. Its even an insult that he is still being considered as a national team player after South Africa game. Well if we are waiting till the grandest stage of all, the world cup, Newsflash people!!! It doesnt get grander than that at Krasnodar. If he did it in this match, he will do it again in the other matches and then it could be costly. Ask Sani Keita if his life remained the same after 2010 world cup. Let us avoid another Pablo Escobar situation because at the rate Nigerian fans are now, betting and all.... tickets cannot be lost on the basis of calamitous school boy errors O!

Ezenwa
I feel for Ezenwa though. I thought he was going to seize his chance but in the match against cameroun, he was found out big time. Maybe its a psychological issue, but the dude's confidence went from high to critical. And once you get to that level, you will be prone to mistakes because of oversights. He still remains a good goalie though. I wouldnt exactly say throw him out. He can still be in the team as a back up (thats my take) but not the 1st choice. I say we play more friendlies and in those games instead of subbing out field players, we sub goalies. It might look daft but it should work.

Alampasu

I dont have much to say about him because we are yet to see what he is capable of. Save his exploits at u-17, we dont know much. As i mentioned earlier, there may be a number of reasons he is not playing regularly. Ranging from money, to racism all the way to quality. But we will know as time goes on.

Bottomline of what I have been saying is let every of these goalkeepers (except maybe em... em.... you know na) come to camp and lets see what they can bring. Some might be good with penalty kick saves. Some in organizing the team from the back etc. But as my friend GoodJoe will always say, select the best. I get am before no be property o! Same goes to the field players too. Forget sentiments.

Godbless Nigeria, Up super Eagles

I will lose total confidence on Agali if he advocates Obafemi Martins' invite. In 2014, Martins was much younger and playing in a more competitive MLS, yet he couldn't make the Brazil world cup team. Now, they want us to invite the over 40 year old Martins to camp! What for exactly?? Maybe I should come out of retirement and try my luck with the team as well, because I am pretty sure that I am not older than Martins by much, if at all grin

Kog45:
The same Agali said likely Maduka Okoye,Joel Obi and Obafemi Martins would be called up.

On Felix Uduokhai i don't think so cos Darlington Omodiagbe who based in Germany and one of the scouts for Rohr has tried his best to convince both Uduokhai and Akpoguma but till now they have refused to show interest.

Yes very good keeper,I rate him then than Enyeama cos he was very good at crosses and spot kick that rattled Enyeama initially but poor with ball on his feet especially kicking ball from his goalposts but generally very reliable keeper,i remember he had a stint in Europe before coming back to NPFL,just too old for Eagles now

So you don't know that 90% of Nigeria civil servants used fabricated age and then ask most Nigerians to tender their birth certificate, what you w see is court affidavits to back their reduced age,so it's general.

My brotha, that one weak me o. But I can't understand why the Nigerian Civil Service try to force people to retire? We don't do that in America. I mean, unless you're in certain type of job (law enforcement, military, etc), there's a minimum retirement age but there's no maximum working age per se. You can work until you're 100 years old as long as you're able and willing to work.

Rijeka's Nigerian GK Nwolokor Tells Croatia: Pay Special Attention To Ndidi & Iwobi

Rijeka's Nigerian GK Nwolokor Tells Croatia: Pay Special Attention To Ndidi & Iwobi
Croatian-based Nigerian goalkeeper David Nwolokor has notified Croatia that they should be wary of Premier League stars, Arsenal's Alex Iwobi and Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi, when they clash with Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup.
Nwolokor has no caps for the senior national team of Nigeria, but claims he was invited for an international friendly with Egypt which was later cancelled by the Egypt Football Association.

''I'm unhappy that this call-up to the national team was not achieved, but I do not lose hope,'' said Nwolokor to sportske.jutarnji.hr.

''Alex Iwobi from Arsenal is a great player, 21 years old and I think he will show he does not play randomly in such a big club. But pay special attention to Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester, this World Cup, by the way, has enormous quality.

''Players like them are highly motivated, there's chemistry in the team and with the experience that Obi Mikel brings, Moses or Ighalo, the team can do great things.

''I think the 4-2 win against Argentina is the biggest warning to Croatia. Be assured, Nigeria will not be just be a passerby.''

The 21-year-old Nwolokor is the third choice goalkeeper at Croatian champions HNK Rijeka, he has not featured for the club in the league this season.

He was loaned out to the third division of Portugal last year and was not impressive.

You are saying he couldn't make the team based on quality and not on merit. Now, that is being mischievous at best.

So. You mean Uchebo, Ameobi and the other boy deserved to be selected based on merit?

I know some of you are afraid Iheanacho might lose his position once he competes with a better player but pls do note that national team was not created for one player. It is for the best to come and fight for shirt.

Can you prove with fact that Alampasu was not impressive last year?

If he was not impressive why did his club include him in the first team rather than send him on another loan?

In the first team as 3rd choice, playing no games?

Do you know how many goals, Alampasu conceded? He was even dropped to the bench in a division 3 club.

I honestly don't know why he didn't make the 2014 World Cup team. But facts are facts, he was tried out and didn't make the team. But to be honest with you, I was actually surprised that he missed the cut in 2014 because I knew that Martins was having an MVP season at Seattle. But, for whatever reason, Keshi felt that the likes of Shola Ameobi, Michael Uchebo, and Uche Nwofor were better than him. But he would have definitely made my 2014 World Cup team, if I were making the cut.

But now, my case against Martins is that:
First, he's simply not better than the players we currently have in the team. I frankly don't see whom he could replace in the current team.
Secondly, he's way too old for us to waste a world cup slot on him. Since we are in rebuilding mode, any vacant slots should go to young players (Osihmen, Onyekuru, Kayode, etc).
Third, Martins isn't playing in a competitive league any more so his stats might not tell the whole story. Yes, numbers can actually lie. Scoring 10 goals in the Chinese league isn't the same thing as scoring 10 goals in EPL.
Fourthly, if Martins is so indispensable to the team, why didn't these folks clamoring for his recall made this case during the qualifiers? Now that we've qualified, all of a sudden we remember that we don't have a team without Obafemi Martins. Are you kidding me
