Ideally, for your OPT, you want to apply to companies that would eventually take care of your H1-B and GC (or at least just H1-B). H1-B needs to be filed and approved while you're on OPT, meaning there is really no gap to allow your company to start your H1-B filing once you're done with OPT. The max you get I believe is 12 months + 24 months extension if in STEM, which can give your company up to 2 or 3 chances at the lottery depending on when during the year you get hired and how long your company will eventually take to prepare your application.
Basically, you need to do your research well when submitting job applications on OPT.

There are lots of resources out there online. Just keep reading. At this point you need all the information you can get!

This is why selecting top schools is vital. Applying for an H1B has become expensive so a lot of low to mid-tier companies will pass on you since they can find an equally qualified American and avoid the legal hassle to employ you. Big companies have dedicated lawyers whose job is to basically treat you like a baby until they get you a GC. You do absolutely nothing and pay zero. It's a nice life if you work hard and know how to navigate the system.

It's nice to see that someone else is thinking about life after an F1 visa. Too often folks here focus so much on getting the F1 that they forget that the F1 visa doesn't last forever.

That’s the logic bro. Hard work and being smart! These two logics has really gotten me far ahead! At times I feel I’m being harsh on myself, but then when I look back, I notice how far ahead I have gone and still going! cheesy

Alright man, this sounds pretty much relieving. And no I’m not working for no non-profit organizations LoL!

lol most people just keep that option as back-up in case you don't get picked in the lottery.

That's the spirit bro. No need to worry, tomorrow will always take care of itself... and here is where you do need God's favor - after you've done your work.

Yup. It's not rocket science. Some Nigerians get their EB green cards in 3-5 years after graduating if selected in the lottery the first time.

For those coming to the Javelina Nation - Jerrypeacelinks, tosinooo, realdude88, cephas0009 and others i do not know of, you can reach me by quoting this post with your whatsapp number or email or you mail icoolnaija@gmail.com.

For any assistance you need, from the smallest to the biggest, we can find a way to make it work.

Landing at San Antonio airport (2hours 30mins) and Corpus Christi airport (1hour) to school are convenient but more expensive.

George Bush IAH (4hours to kingsville) - the most preferred and cheaper option for those landing here for school - is like 35minutes from Greyhound at 2121 Main street Houston and cost around $40 by Uber.
Then about $70 Greyhound Houston to Kingsville. This price fluctuates.
Plus an additional $15-$20 to get to 'your apartment' from your last stop at kingsville.

There are cheaper options to do this, one being the group >>TAMUK rides<< on facebook.
You can also schedule a pickup organised by the school, IAH to school, but you need to book this.

Lol @ creepy reply..

He is used to attack people on here ferociously calling them "Shame", "disgruntled", "dishonest", "fraudulent" etc. People on here have complained bitterly about him but he is not ready to accept blames.

He is here saying many unprintable names about Nigeria as if he has never been in the system before. anytime he gets into arguments with people and he is being defeated, his line next of response will be " You even live in Nigeria" OR "talk to me when you have VISA" a case example of TheGrandChemist.

Please note that people on here always show displeasure anytime he uses bad names on quote them and generalized them. The word "most" Nigerians are dishonest is acceptable but not the word "Nigerians" that was why i was quick to remind him of his heritage BUT not matter how you think you can dish words to people very harshly, always think/know that there are also people out there with zero chills ready to give it back to you double.. that is life!!

There was this day saying to some people on here "You wont get Visa", "You will be denied" etc. that is not a truth but a blatant lie(You are not a VO but yet you say with authority that a person will be denied) even on US visit thread section, people say on there "we can not predict your chances of getting a visa"

There is this trending thing on twitter some times ago "Kenya vs Nigeria". each was quick to defend his country and i have seen post about foreigners taking swipes at africa(Nigeria) and i have NEVER seen a nigerian saying "Yeah, you are right etc" all they do is to blast the hell out of the foreigner. If we can refuse a foreigner says unprintable names about us, what more of a ordinary nigerian?

Imagine you finishing school with this high hope of getting a good job and went to the normal interview and say we will get back to you only for your file to reach twood table for final review and say "Oh this is a dishonest, fraudulent nigerian" and case closed. If you hear that will you be pleased?

So far I have been here, I have never seen a citizen or even heard it that africans are fraudulent, most of them are just quick to ask questions about africa. If the owners of the soil havent said you nigerians are bad or not complaining etc, then who is he to say so?

Most people came here and violate their visa conditions and adjust status and become resident. if USCIS didnt find them guily and issue them green card, then who is he to complain? Is he saying they dont know their job? i have many examples

The Bitter truth is is most people will still come here with the mindset of hustling and overstaying and later get papers and USCIS will continue granting them green card if they found them worthy of it. It is not in our place to criticize them if USCIS didnt/dont criticize them.

America is indeed a land of opportunities for every nation that comes here.

Shalom

Bless you for this truth. Twoods shall never be comfortable with this but who gives a hoot about that sadistic fellow? No one.
Twoods, have you seen a honest Nigerian telling you the truth you hate to hear?

I watched a Video this morning were Mr Dangote said he has been refused a Rwanda Visa before.. I was like what did you just say??

To the best of my knowledge UK denied Reekado Banks a Visit visa t few months ago.. And that was sad.

This US don't or other embassy's don't issue you visa because of popularity or money..
They want Honesty, Intergrity, from the Applicant that's why common kids like Us could go to America..

Nigerians are great people.. The Americans are aware of that.. We the big brother of Africa..
"We are just a prince walking on foot, while the slaves are riding on the horses back "
It might not be in our generation that Nigeria might be good.. But some day when realize the we Nigerians contribute 54% of the World Economy.. That's when we be great.. That's when our thinking faculty will change... And that's when with your green passport you allowed 180 days entry without a Visa to the US.

God bless Nigeria.

Do you think HomeLand security does not know people. Over stay their visas...
They have the figures and data...
You no where smarter... But do they come bundle you into Arik back to Nigeria No?
Why?
The VO has certified you a non immigrant for that reason they hope that one day you would return to Nigeria... Do you think those VO don't know people like Twood lie to their face that they would come back....
I hope you come bro...

Nobody has the right to judge any body here.... We all different and on our merit..
If I say something wrong.. You tell me bro no this the way out.
Don't start criticizing people...
It won't help them...

So sorry about your delayed visa, i understand what it's takes to be destabilized before interview, that makes me remember my first interview around May, when myself and other friend entered a one chance bus on our way to the embassy, those guys no get mercy atall, thank God we didn't go with our phones, they only left #500 for the two of us, me and my guy just turn mumu after the scene grin, after that we still go face another passport palava from those guys hustling at the embassy gate, we were forced to take another passport on credit and gave them our wallets containing ATM cards and other stuffs, na blue paper still end the whole thing.

Just prepare your self well and refire, God of favor will speak for you.
