Plssssss let someone tell mi my hospital has not just duped mi of 30k cry cry
So i took my son for 12month immunization, only for d nurse to tell mi dat its only vit A dat my HMO covers dat will hv to pay for meningococcal conjugate (16k) and MMR - chicken pox (14k). Anyway i paid cos i was rushing to take him back to creche den head back to work. Now thinking back am feeling cheated and financially drained ( unplanned expenses) these are my concern 1) even if its not free, is it that expensive?
2) its really necessary or complusory to take them cos still hv to take another MMR and chickenpox shot @ 13month

we have 12 months immunization on saturday, and I already got the prices from the hospital just incase HMO says they are not covering all. everything is aprox 20k, so NO, I don't think u have been duped. Maybe ur hospital just has longer throat than mine smiley

Pls mums, is there any successful way of stopping baby from sucking his/her fingers? When I noticed LO singled out 2 of her fingers (index and middle) and started sucking them repeatedly, I became worried and resorted to wearing her mittens and socks. I thought she was already forgetting as she hardly put that hand in her mouth but I still found out she sucks them at any given opportunity. Saw her sucking them few mins ago, she pulled the mitten (this mitten isn't the regular type, quite long...) Pls how can I stop her, everyone including hubby said I should leave her to suck but I don't want her to. How long will I continue to cover her hands? Make una help me o. She's 3 months and 2 weeks old.
what i did was to wear it for her 24/7 for a whole week, by the time i stopped she had forgotten about it. You would have to change the mitten regularly. I hope it works for you too...

Pele. I paid 6500 for the MMR-chicken pox at UCH... Was told the meningococcal was 9000 though they said the schedule for it has changed so we were not given.

are you using a private hospital? cos' the MMR vaccine is free in GH. (M in Benin though). you only pay #200 for paracetamol. i'm not so sure about the meningococcal something. will check my son's immunisation card when i get home

Hello mamas. How you all doing? Concerning the vaccine, DD had
1. (dTap,/IPV/Hib, PCV, menB, and Rota) at 8weeks

2. (dTap,/IPV/Hib, MenC and Rota ), @12weeks
3. . (dTap,/IPV/Hib, PCV, and MenB)@ 16weeks.
Only BCG at birth no HepB.
Please, my little one is 15months already. I had her in London n we returned to naija after she had all the above. Normally her next vaccine should be at 12-13months( Hib/MenC, PCV, MenB and MMR )1ST DOSE.

I went to the health center when she was due.I showed them the next vaccination. But she was only given vitamin A and I was told that's all. I didn't have the naija immunization card.

About 2weeks ago someone informed me abt the other vaccines.

I went to another health center on Wednesday. She was given measles and yellow fever that she was supposed to take that at 9months and then come back after three months for the last dose which is for 12 months.

She will be 19months after the said 3months. Can she take the vaccines for 12-13months at 19months?

Then where can I get /MenC, PCV, MenB and MMR for her? Do I need to wait till 3months?

I had been following the UK immunization chat. I wasn't aware of all this. I am confused please..

Kindly ignore the typo errors and bad grammar.

what age did your child return to nigeria?

with the UK vaccination schedule, the most important vaccines are given within the first 12 months of the child's life and do note that they also give combination vaccines. so one shot could cover a wide range of diseases. by the time my son clocked 12months, he was done with the last vaccine and the next vaccine he received (flu vaccine) was when he clocked 2 years.

i think you should ask mums here to post their nigerian vaccination card and then compare it to your UK red book so that way you do not end up repeating the same vaccines for your child.

the only vaccine that I know is not offered to kids in the UK (except the child falls into the sick/vulnerable category) is chicken pox vaccine, so you might want to get that from your health center.

My questions.
1. Has your daughter taken the vaccines that were due as at the age of 12-13m?
If she hasn't then she shouldn't have to wait for 3m, she should take them as soon as you see a Dr preferably a Paed of a Public Health Officer that will assure you that the yellow fever and co she took won't react or hinder these new ones.

Since she's taken a first dose of the yellow fever and co, then I'd advise she should take the subsequent doses too.

She returned at 8m+. SHe only had measles and yellow fever snc the last shot at 14weeks.

Do you mean I should ignore the next measles and yellow fever shot? Then take the 12-13 months shot and chicken pox?

I haven't register at a private clinic yet. I just moved close to Lagos now. I have not been Stable. Thank you

She didn't take 12-13 months. Now I desire to give her the 12-13months. I am confused.

I will need to see a paed then.

After the 14weeks shot, she is to take vitamin A (oral) at 6 months.
measles and yellow fever are to be taken at 9 months, after which you go ahead for the 12 months vaccines which is chickenpox n co.

That's the schedule we r currently on.

at 12 months, she would have received the following vaccines if she had remained in the UK:

1.Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, (given as a single jab)
2.Pneumococcal (PCV) vaccine ( third dose)
3.MenB vaccine (third dose)
4.Hib/MenC vaccine, given as a single jab containing vaccines against meningitis C (first dose) and Hib (fourth dose)

So look for a private hospital preferably one that can administer the above vaccines.

in fact the best thing to do is see a doctor (not a nurse or midwife o) at a private hospital with a copy of your UK red book so that he can determine which vaccines are outstanding and then give you an adapted vaccination schedule that can work for your baby. what I have realised is that not all vaccines in Nigeria are administered as combination doses, some vaccines are omitted totally and are not even part of the standard schedule while others are administered when the child is older than 12 months. so a doctor would be the best person to speak to concerning this issue.

I won't suggest you miss skip any vaccination until you speak to a doctor.

personally, I would rather repeat certain vaccines (such as measles) than omit it totally. measles in children can be life threatening.

is the rash on a specific part of her body or all over?

does it make her uncomfortable? that is, is she unusually cranky or crying frequently than usual?

the rash might be pure coincidence with the introduction of the milk or it might be she is reacting to the milk.

that said, why not post a picture of the rash? this will help in offering a solution as a mum here might have experienced something similar.

It could be the milk.
Stop it for a couple of days and see if the rash disappears.
