Before you apply to this school for an mba, check where the alumni are currently working. That should give you an idea whether to attend that school or not.

There is way too much myopic, knee jerk, shortermism around here. Mostly because many here are frankly unintelligent.

There is a reason top mba’s are expensive, greater than 50% of the cost is repaid in the connections you make and type of jobs available to you. A $25000 mba is cheap today but will earn you nothing tomorrow. I’d rather take school loans to get in a top mba program, knowing I’ll make all that money back in less than 5 years at a top earning job. But of course... I’m just pissing in the wind with the kind of folks here. The serious students already left the country months ago.

Does that mean the bar is sometimes higher for F1 VISA students going to LINCOLN UNIVERSITY Oakland CA to study?

Yes, some people have gotten their Visas with Lincoln university, but to spend $XX,000 On an MBA from an unranked school (even Lagos Business schools is a better alternative) will not seem like a wise investment to a very strict VO( that interviewed you)

Nothing at all wrong here

Well, the VO simply didn't buy this answer; the average Nigerian graduate doesn't want to end up working in their parents SME, even entrepreneurial grads prefer to stay on their feet. Next time, you can simply say your work at an Agricultural Processing plant. Never volunteer more information than is neccessary

Again, very unconvincing, the bay area is one of the most expensive areas in cali, and considering that you're paying heavily for an unranked MBA in one of the most expensive cities on earth, it further makes little financial sense; No offence there.

Unranked MBA + Expensive City + Weak Employment History = your denial

So unranked MBA at LINCOLN UNIVERSITY OAKLAND CA can cause a VISA denial?

No No No... Certainly not, people get F-1 visas to go study at Lincoln, but you need to at least show that, even it would be a financial gamble gone wrong, you can take the Financial hit without loosing a limb. If you're Going to spend your life savings, coming from a not so rich family, on a not so great school, then it raises not so good questions.

Hello, please I intend to take GRE early next year, I've been following this thread for about three years now, and there used to be a way of getting access to some preparatory materials via email canned response.

I would appreciate it if I can have access to the materials as well. Thanks

In my time, what helped me was the free practice materials on the GRE website. The software that simulates a mock exam was also invaluable and it's equally free.

I had my interview a couple of days ago. Visa delayed.

VO: hello
Me: hello
Vo: pass your passport and i20 pls.
Vo: what school are u attending?
Me: Lincoln university, Oakland California to begin my MBA with a concentration in management information systems.
Vo: what's your highest qualification?
Me: bsc
Vo: what course?
Me: industrial chemistry
Vo: What year did u finish?
Me: 2012
Vo: what have u been doing since then?
Me: I've been working in my parents vegetable oil production company and since my dad is late, I'm expected to run d place in a few years. This is actually why I'm going for d mba, to acquire the necessary professional skills.
Vo: OK, what do u do there?
Me: I work in d fractionation department
Vo: what other schools did u apply to?
Me: California state university, east bay.
Vo: did u get admitted?
Me: unfortunately, no
Vo: why were u targeting d San Francisco bay area
Me: because of the diversity in d place, I'll get to meet pple from all over d world, learn from them and have new experiences, which is vital for growth. Without new experiences, u recycle your thinking.
Vo: OK. I'm sorry u do not qualify for a visa at this time.
What did I say wrong?? He had denied three people seeking f1 visas just before me. He looked strict and businesslike. He was typing all through and was barely looking me.

Sorry about your denial. But always remember denial is not the end. You have to re apply now with a well improved strategy. I will go ahead and analyze this transcript you have here and a few things you might want to address.
First, your Chemistry degree and MBA seems to be a little bit apart. You must try to use your job to cushion this disparity. Explain the nature of job you were doing in your dad's company. I guess you just mentioning the department is not a good sign of your critical involvement. Also, you have to be a little bit detailed about your response mostly when they ask you about what you have been doing since you graduated. I will also inform you that your DS160 and what you filled in there is crucial. 2012 to 2017 is a long time and you must have had so much you have done in a space of five years which you will have to explain ( have in mind you must try connect your chemistry to why you are interested in MBA) The idea of taking over your late dad's company is great to keep the business going but what about complementing going to learn skills with new business goals you have for the company coming into the management position.

Why are you targeting the Bay area? San Francisco is an expensive area and applying to only California alone must have incited an interior motive. So that is not really good. They expect you to apply to more than one school not in the same locations technically to reduce any doubt that you have a reason for picking a particular area. Also you talking about diversity is a red flag it shows you are more interested in the people than your studies. Talk more about the school, the program, the professors, what the school is known for, the department, the recognition. That makes the VO know that you know your stuff. I hope this helps and I wish you the best. Dont give up and try get it right !!!

Can this be true ... shocked na wa for my people o

So true, I almost couldn't believe it myself when the guy asked me if I knew anything about the course he would be doing?

That's why it's better for Twoods to give people pseudo denials and make them learn and be better prepared.

how can you be asking this kind of question. The guardian part is for those who are under 18 and are not yet adults. did you not read the i20 at all. If twoods talk now it will be as if he likes to talk.

Thanks all the same. It's better to make all the errors here on NL and get it right at the interview. I read it, but I guess I misinterpreted a few things which is why I asked for clarifications. Someone signed both places even - denied though. Someone else was asked to sign by the vo after the visa was approved.

You can't say TODAY because you at least should factor in that it takes about 48 hours to reflect on the US embassy's system. So you have to leave out at least 3 days before your interview appointment.

I am not a VO but this will definitely affect it under STP if you ask me. Getting a letter from your school might help you out. Even if you get the visa without a letter, it will take a miracle to pass POE without a letter from your school.Thats why it always good to do proper planning

I've followed this thread for more than a year now. Got my visa at 1st try.

To someone out there... you too can make your dreams come true. You've got to put ur back to work.

Visa approved yesterday morning.

Transcript goes thus...

Me: Good morning with a smile (vo no send my smile)
Vo: Good morning ur passport and I - 20 pls
Me: (gave her and kept my sevis fee reciept)
Vo: where are u going to?
Me: Penn State University
Vo: whats ur 1st degree?
Me: PTE
Vo: pardon?
Me: ( I repeated it)
Vo: ok. Is that a B.sc?
Me: no, it's a B. Eng
Vo: so why Penn State?
Me: of the 8 schools my sponsor recommended, Penn State Harrisburg is the only one that specializes in Waste water treatment which is my area of interest and relates directly to my current job.
(Vo starts typing)
Vo: did u write any tests?
Me: Emmm, the GRE was waived cos I have a full scholarship but I took the toefl
Vo: so who is ur sponsor
Me: I told her
Vo: can I see anything in reference to ur sponsorship
Me: sure. (handed her the scholarship letter. She goes through for some time and returns it to me).
Vo checking my I 20 and continuously typing...
Vo: so who would pay for the 2nd year. It says here that the scholarship is for 1 year.
Me: no, my program is for 1 year. I was in contact with my program coordinator - Dr. Xyz nd he gave me a 1 year schedule.
Vo: oh! Is it? ( checking my I - 20). That's correct.
Vo starts typing for africa
Vo: so who would complete the other part of the payment?
Me: my dad
Vo: what does he do?
Me: he is a contractor. And he is also into real estate
Vo starts typing for Africa again
Me : ( I said in my head "Oh Lord, i'm not leaving here without my white paper"wink
Vo: you qualify for visa approval... (keeps quite)
Me: (oh lord, pls no 'but')
(Then she brings out the white paper na so I just happy)
Vo: i'll be approving ur visa
Vo: where would u be staying?
Me: told her ( it's a hostel off campus)
Vo: oh. Ok
Vo cirlcles location where I would pick up my visa.
She then hands me the white paper and an EducationUSA invite.
Me, I just dey thank God dey bounce commot.
NOTE: The woman in window 4 just dey issue blue paper like sey she be father xmas wey dey dash people gift. However, I think most people who are paid and working would understand why she refused most people visas. Some of them didn't give appropriate responses though. (I'm not saying I did cos I know sey God hand dey am). However, don't take lightly the information shared here. I believe with adequate preparation and unique responses ( modification of general responses to suit ur personal profile) any genuine student can get an F1 without hassle. Most people are lazy and don't do their research properly - sad to say though. Some F1 students didn't even knw the qualification they were going for. It's really saddening. All the best to other folks. Good luck.

Please was your interview on 6th Dec too? If it was, I was interviewed by the white woman on window 4 too and the questions asked seems similar and was really issuing blue paper but I got my own white paper too lol.....and she can type for Africa. Will share my transcript soon. Thanks to all Nairalanders. You are so wonderful. And thank you baba God.. ....
