I knew these awards were popularity contests to be honest, especially after the disgusting robbing of Sneijder in 2010.
My only issue was that I disagreed that every single award of John Racist was popularity contest. At least one or two had to be genuine.

The reverse is the case for me, Most of the awards won by Messi and Ronaldo were fully deserved because they have on field performances to back it up.

Its people like Terry who cant back it up with any on field performance that benefit from the popularity contest stuff

Dayo, we've been through this many times. A defender or player doesn't have to be in a final before he'll be rewarded for his contribution during the group stages, round of 16, quarter-final etc. Boateng didn't make the finals, but he was in the team of the tournament at Euros.

Cr7 barely contributed anything at the finals coz of his injury, he still made team of the tournament. Finals is just one match. It can't wipe away all the contributions in other matches.

Are SOME of John Terry's awards due to popularity? Yes.

Are ALL of them due to popularity? No. I don't think so.

Which big game have we seen Terry show any decent performance? He is always hiding behind Carvalho but when its time for accolades he will be the one awarded

Just like he didnt step on the field in the CL final but he dressed up in full kits even with shin guard to lift the trophy. Anyone who looks at that picture of Terry lifting the CL will say see Terry leading his team to the CL not knowing he was red carded disgracefully in a crucial semi final and didnt play a minute of the final in which the team won against all odds

Its not only Terry that was how Beckham and even gerrard to a large extent used to take the glory of more industrous but not flashy teammates
