The reason why Nigeria is a failed state is right here on this thread, it's "THE PEOPLE " . We blame the government often, but the people are the government. I shake my head for the next nigerian generation, most Nigerians need major re-orientation. For some odd reason Nigerians think it's easy overseas, I shake my head. Let me tell you a fact, if you can't make anything out of yourself in Nigeria, you will NEVER do better abroad either. Until you've worked and struggled abroad with no moral support and you suffer from bouts of depression, you will NEVER understand. Your average American believes in their country and most have stayed to make it what it is. If they bailed at any sign of challenges, you will not be dying to cross over.
How i wish the American government can just grant the wishes of some of you so you can go and experience life or If there wasn't any option to relocate maybe you all would make something of yourselves.
OP, in life strive to find yourself wherever you are, by all means do not be an illegal alien in any country, it never really ends well. It's either you find a way to legalize or start mapping out your plan to come to Nigeria. 30k is about 10mill , you can buy treasury bills. Take the almost 2mill upfront, find someone to room with on the island, pay a years rent with half. And start exploring opportunities. It's not a must you should wear suit and tie and scavenge the whole city for employment. Try looking for areas of improvement where you can provide service. Even in today's America, if you want to make it big you have to think of ingenious ideas and areas that haven't been tapped into. Same applies anywhere in the world if you don't want to remain complacent with mediocrity.
Re-orientate yourself from all these kiddos and oldies that aspire to the champagne lifestyle, you can survive on what you have till something works out. Ignore all these ones whose role models are politicians, scammers and what not, do not despise the power of good old hard work and dedication, it still goes a long way. Problem with Nigerians is everyone wants to arrive quickly, someone without employment for 10yrs wants to be a boss in 1 month, that's why most of them are mostly unemployable. Always envious of the person with a car/ better life when they don't know their story or how much they worked to get it. Your average American starts working at McDonald's or the mall.at age 16 to grasp the concept of earning a living, life just doesn't happen, you work you way through it.
My point? it all boils down to you, stay illegally in the US and God help you Trump and his people come after you, you will find yourself at the back of MMA with only a knapsack to your name. Be wise. Just the truth bro. Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria. 2 Likes |

@ OP: all my life, I have never been a fan of traveling out of Nigeria to go and start a new life but with the current situation of what I'm seeing here, I might be forced to take that decision in 2019 if we make the mistake of electing another idiot into power. Nigeria is a perfect example of what a nation should never be like. There is a place of patriotism, and there is a place of reality. No doubt, there are people making it in Nigeria but then, you have to ask "at what cost "? At the cost of your sanity? You are probably used to a sane environment where practically everything works well. Coming to Nigeria, expect a total opposite of what you are currently enjoying... I'm yet to find something that one can easily get in Nigeria without having to cut corners. There are businesses that you have to do and you would have to settle a lot of insiders before it flies. Sometimes, it eats into your profit so much and you end up not really getting what you want. Look, I don't want to scare you but your $30,000 might not be able to get you through what you have planned down. You'd have to learn the ropes of how to do business in Nigeria and truthfully, be prepared for the worse. Apart from the cost of living, Nigeria is not totally a perfect place to live if you want your sanity. Like I said earlier on, the current government is a disaster and whoever we elect in 2019 would determine a lot. If we elect another idiot in 2019, I'd start packing my things and find my square root cause the country is deteriorating daily. Before you relocate back fully, think things through. There are almost no jobs and doing business here, is quite expensive and almost frustrating. Only the strong can survive. My husband and I were in your situation roughly 2 years ago..He is Nigerian with a complicated Status in the US, I am British/Nigeria with no complicated status, 4 kids with American and British status. Because of the hubby facing removals from the USA, we had the option of him either returning to Nigeria and me filing for the UK Sposal paperwork for him and we can all go to the UK or we all should go to Nigeria. Then Dec 31st 2014 we made our move feeling preapred etc. I dont really want to into all numerous challanges we had including insecurity, bad health care, being stolen from , hubby kidnapped by SARs, I can go on....But just to let you know within 2 years, considering we are relatively very low key people our $75k dwindled down as after first 6 months, the company i worked for stopped paying salaries. Hubby had a very difficult time finding a paid employment and decided to start his own IT firm..which we did but got stolen from most of the time by employees.
This forced the very difficult decision to abandon Nigeria again this time for the UK where I and the kids are citizens and filed Spousal Visa for hubby. So we finally moved back in to the UK this summer with all things now going well, looking back at the Nigeria experience without being negative, It was one of the worst decisions we made...unless you are willing to abandon your ethics and join the status quo...you are in for a very rough time.
it is also quite expensive to maintain a decent lifestyle in Nigeria as a family as well. So your $30k will not go as far as you think...so my suggestion is to put Nigeria on a back burner for now and think of other scenarios that might work better for you but if Nigeria is only the option,then my friend, you need to have a plan and strategise and knowing all your strategies might not work but be willing to tough the ride...I dont care what all your friends say, when the rubber hits the road as we say..you will find yourself alone very quickly.

So back to the information you really need, your safe bet in Nigeria right now which can generate up to 50% yield is these 3 things : 1.education 2. Real estate 3. Petrol/filling station ...your capital of 30 k dollars is more than enough to do this ...
So like I said above in less than a year your business would have paid back it's 30k investment, the only serious setbacks of doing business in Nigeria is finding the right type of people to get you started not the cost of fuel or police brutality or lack of electricity or any of the things you see on twitter or cnn...
The full scenario of Nigeria is not what you see online, there are incredible opportunities here you would never see online cos it's very hard to describe the opportunities online to anyone ...
I don't think I can say everything on here since I moved back to Nigeria but first things first you would need to incorporate a Nigerian company. I am a Nigerian lawyer so I can help you with that as fast as you can say the word a certificate of incorporation. Thereafter we would have to help you with a domicillary account so your money can be moved across continents with ease .. In addition I could also help you with a certificate of capital importation ( this certficate allows you to transfer your current at the Cbn rate )
After this then your business or company is ready for any actual real investment possible ...also if you do not mind I have 3 detailed business proposals on the 3 ideal business I listed above which is 1. Building a small scale school (education ) 2 . Real estate (buying land or a building the finished product at a high margin house flipping it's called or 3. A petrol / filling station ( petrol stations in Nigeria make up to 400,000 naira in a day ( I have statistics to back this up ) so imagine building a petrol station with 30k dollars and making up to 1k dollars in sales in a day ...
In less than a month after you start operating you would thank God for leaving the US and coming to invest in Nigeria and not missing out on the Nigerians on twitter or fb ...cos real business is not on twitter or fb...it's here in Nigeria in particular when you get the right type of people to help you ....

Ordinarily, a poor man is someone who can not get money except he works and get paid no matter the amount even if he works in Oil Company. While a rich man is the one that while not working, his money works and bring him returns. That is why it is possible for one to be in USA and work for even 50 years and will not be able to cope when he comes back! Remember some people can not leave Nigeria for a week without losing money in their businesses. Imagine someone claimed to have come to Nigeria with 75000$ and squandered it within months living fake life to impress people in order to show they have arrived!
My advice to OP. There are opportunities in Nigeria but people don't have money to tap into it. Get more savings and look at the area where you can invest and manage comfortably and make your money to work for you. I have a friend that came from USA in 2014 with some Trailers' double axle with his savings. Now he has over 300 in his store at Bodija and each costs 1.2m naira. It only takes 25million to become a owner of Microfinance Bank! To be a Nigerian brewery distributor is less than 25million, Dangote Distributor is less than 10 million, you wont be avle to tell our IBO boys selling building materials that you are from USA when you come across their accounts.
