Scored in both legs, does not mean he was explosive. Keep in mind, there were attributes I was looking for to see if Mbappe was special. In that game, he failed to tick them. Today, the attributes I look for are far different because of growing in understanding.

That was why I wanted to read my stance then. It does not change.

So, attacking because someone proved his point, means you want to hold a rigid stance to an opinion even if you did not understand it.

Not me. I am eager to keep learning. I like to learn and get a deeper understanding of the game. I watch Gabriel Jesus and point to people where Iheanacho needs to adapt his game to meet the requirements Guardiola wanted from him.

He was absolutely explosive in the game against City. As a matter of fact, he got worldwide recognition on the back of the City performance.

Iwobi have been playing better for Nigeria than for Arsenal, and sometimes he plays for Nigeria it seems that he is underutilized at Arsenal. The freedom he enjoys from playing SE games and also the love and support from Nigeria fans have made it more comfortable for him to deliver his best. Unlike in Arsenal where he is too careful not to make a mistake on the field of play, and thereby not doing so great. [/b]Freedom is what actually “frees” people to live to their best.[/b]

As it stands now, Iwobi should be starting games for the SE.
You too much@the bolded. I often say without freedom we cannot be and become.

So now you subtly admit you were arguing against Mbappe from the position of ignorance.
Sometimes, I wonder how you manage to keep a straight face and write some Fonthill things you write.

Straight face how. Unless you feel you are all knowing and you do not learn as time goes on. I was totally wrong on Mbappe. My stance has changed totally. There is nothing like keeping a straight face. I keep learning.

I can say, I watch David Silva intently to decipher why Guardiola feels he is an unbelievable genius. I have not seen what Guardiola is looking for and will keep looking.

Even in all those arguments in the past, no one hit why Mbappe is special. It is not just about goals that people were talking. It took me time to decipher it. Not from even watching Mbappe but Gabriel Jesus. Now I want to watch Mbappe games to see more of what I have deciphered.

I learn. That is why I can feel glad seeing my shift/growth in understanding. Not ignorance.

You are the one who is suicidal when you are wrong. Not me. I am glad when I learn something new.

almost all the formations and analysis been portrayed here are nothing but mere fantasy from the person portraying it as its not even near what the manager thinks or what's currently on board... just like some people here realising their own worldcup list and preferable line up. ..isn't that fantasy and speculation. .
At the end of the day, @ the coach does what he likes and feel is good...

oga, we have been doing this for four years now, by next year, it would be five years since some of us started these National Team threads

Do you know how we made it to over 2k pages? By doing these line-ups and formation guessing that you think is useless. Many times, our predictions have come good an probably very useful to someone you don't know could be reading.

We are not stupid children playing some idiotic game here....we are discussing the best team and formation for the Super Eagles and someone is reading

So, please, if you don't like it, just ignore or waka....we have tackled this previously and we are still doing it. So, allow us guess our formations and sieve our best possible team.

It is our own time and brain power we are using, and nobody has complained about it

Yes he has more "freedom" in eagles Jersey Dan Chelsea...maybe u re now cin d "freedom" as a negativity, I don't knw and beside.. Same tin for iwobi,he plays with freedom when playing for eagles Dan arsenal, though d latter doesn't hold on much to d ball Dan former. Having said dt,generally moses style for eagles hasnt affected d team negatively

Not DT if he had played a one touch football for eagles we would av won with a wider margin or played better, all in all, victory is what matter most. grin
I think the way we use the word 'selfish' has more to do with the way modern football has shaped our perspective. If Maradona were to play today they'd say he's selfish. Check out his goal against England in Mexico 86. He went on a solo mazy run even though they were other players to exchange passes with. Probably in ten years from now dribbling will be a thing of the past. Player dribble small you hear' selfish, selfish, selfish'. Yet dribbling and football are like husband and wife but they will soon be put asunder by those who regard dribbling as selfish.

Yes he's had a higher goals per minutes ratio for Nigeria. But that does not tell the whole story.
Before that Zambia game, didn't we think he performed better for Arsenal?

I refuse to rate him on Wenger's terms.

You are right but that is why the next sentence says “sometimes” in the post.

Has he been able to replicate the form against Zambia and Argentina in Arsenal? Wenger demands goals from him when he scores for Nigeria, I think that is not the best. He may not be the guy that performs best with too much pressure on him.

It's quite obvious that Ebuehi played better as wingback than Shehu but still we have to stick to Shehu but why is nobody saying we should continue to use Aina as LWB when it was clear Idowu played it better? Is it fear or what or the believe that Ebuehi is too green for such responsibility?I guess it has to do with the fact that Ebuehi is a 'boy' and Shehu is a 'man'. Yet that 'boy' played well against Di Maria the man who has always been a handful whenever Argentina plays against us. The only thing I noticed is that Ebuehi was allowing crosses to come through from his wing but as a RWB he bested Shehu in that match. Fact is even before that match Mickael2 had strongly set it down that Shehu cannot play the RWB. I argued with him but the match proved him right. Maybe Shehu will grow into the position but then why wait for him to grow into it when we have someone who we can all see has it in him to be our RWB?

Childish jibe. I have repeated my point over and over again. Kelechi Iheanacho is one of the most lethal finishers around. What Mbappe and co. have ahead of him is more all round play. It took me time to decode it, I am willing to learn. Now I get it. I keep studying Gabriel Jesus to understand what Guardiola wants.

As for the finishing, I rate Iheanacho ahead of them but I want Nacho to work hard to add more to his game.

thanks for this

Before that Zambia game, Iwobi was on ghostmode for Nigeria.

I think it was Kog45 that mentioned earlierf that ehen he asked me who the face of Nigeria was earlier, I said Kelechi, but Iwobi has taken over.

I didn't have enough time to reply then, but indeed Iwobi was missing in action in most of our games after that first match against Zambia. He was criticised for being unable to keep up with the tempo in African football

But scoring the World Cup Qualification goal shot him back into reckoning, so, let us all not act like he has been the beacon of hope for the team from the onset. He has simply hit a purple patch since his return

It is because they have been playing against European teams who also play organized football.

I saw their coach the other day making mouth that they can beat us because we are not organized. I just laughed.

Let them face us first and we will disorganize them with our unpredictable style of play.

Our team is unpredictable. That is a major strength. Some opponents see us as a team which likes to build attack slowly while some say we are quick in building attack.

Go look at all our WC qualifiers we approached each game almost differently.

The versatility of our players did not help matters for our opponents. As you are planning to stop Iwobi from doing damage from the wings, he starts from a more central position. As you are planning to stop Etebo from the CMF he starts from the AMF position. Moses can initiate attacks from both the left , Right and centre. Maybe that is why the Icelanders see us a not organized meanwhile that versatility is our strength.

Argentina are still Wondering how we managed to beat them in that friendly.
When an Eagle is flying it might look disorganised to those who don't have a trained eye but the Eagle knows it's way through the mountain crags. We will visit them with our 'flowing chaos and erratic play' and see how their organised team holds.

Everton's Lookman vows to seize opportunity vs. Liverpool play

Ademola Lookman has assured new Everton boss Sam Allardyce he is ready to seize any opportunity afforded him ahead of Sunday's Merseyside derby.

The 20-year-old winger staked his claim to be involved against Liverpool with a first-half brace in Cyprus on Thursday night, when a Toffees team led by Craig Shakespeare and Duncan Ferguson beat Apollon Limassol 3-0.

A long-standing medical appointment meant Allardyce had remained at home along with the bulk of the squad he will take to Anfield, but Lookman's impressive performance will have given him some food for thought over his possible role.

Lookman's double in Nicosia, the second of which was a sweet strike from distance, has imbued him with confidence prior to Everton's attempt to secure a first victory at Liverpool's ground since 1999.

"I believe in my ability; I know what I can do,'' said Lookman.

Ademola Lookman made a case to play in Sunday's matchup against rivals Liverpool. Tony McArdle/Everton FC via Getty Images
"It's always good to play and enjoy your football and I did that on Thursday, hopefully it showed.

"[The Liverpool game] is out of my control. I can only do what I do on the football pitch. Once I get my opportunity I will take it.''

It was the first time Lookman had scored for Everton since he netted four minutes into his debut 11 months earlier in a 4-0 win over Manchester City at Goodison Park.

Since then he has become a World Cup winner, as part of the victorious England Under-20s squad, with two of his colleagues in South Korea, Lewis Cook and Dominic Solanke, having recently received senior call-ups from Gareth Southgate.

Lookman harbours aspirations of doing likewise and is confident he can fulfil his potential having joined the Toffees from Charlton nearly a year ago.

"I have played with them for a couple of years and to see them doing that is nice; they deserve it,'' Lookman added of Cook and Solanke's senior recognition. "I don't see why I can't follow in their footsteps.

"It is a big club, Everton, and I am still learning, still young. With time I think everything will come.''

In the U20 World Cup when Nigeria lost to Brazil, keep in mind Gabriel Jesus played that game. Manu Garba criticised Iheanacho and blamed Iheanacho for the loss. I felt disappointed in Manu Garba because I felt the blame should have gone to the goalie who was atrocious.

During Amunike's open camp trial for the U17, Victor Osimhen showed up in camp and noticed that Amunike was not satisfied with the attackers until he screened.

Manu Garba criticised Iheanacho for not defending in front. And a young Osimhen during trials pointed out that the attackers trying out were not defending. When Amunike saw his defensive display as an attacker, he snapped Osimhen to the team and never looked back.

Mbappe in one of his games tracked back the whole length of the pitch and won the ball in defence of his team, close to the corner flag.

As I said, it took time to decode. Just as Guardiola wants keepers and defenders who are comfortable playing with the ball and initiating attacks with it, he likes his attackers/forwards being his first line of defence.

This is what Manu Garba pointed out in Iheanacho and what Iheanacho must develop.

This has to do more with perception formed on the basis of his past. Presently he is not selfish as such

.
How did he score the first goal against Algeria? He dribbled his way into the box, passed the ball to Iheanacho but it struck a defender and came back to him. There wasn't any clear situation where one could have said 'ohhhhhh if only Vicmo had passed the ball we would have scored. Against Cameroon in Nigeria he powered two of our goals. Mikel freed him from deep in our half, he ran with the ball. Mind you there was nobody to pass the ball to because we were on a counter except Simon Moses. He passed to Simon at the right time. Simon squared for him and he scored.
In a counter, an attacker needs to run with the ball because most times its just him and another attacker who push the counter. I bet Vicmo did better than both Iwobi Iheanacho on the counter. Once Iwobi would have freed Iheanacho but he failed. Twice Iheanacho would have freed Iwobi but he failed. How come Vicmo released the ball for Iheanacho against Algeria, how come he released the ball to Simon against Cameroon?

There wasn't any such golden chance Vicmo denied Ighalo against Cameroon. Have you forgotten how he passed the ball to Ighalo twice against Zambia? I do not agree that he's been selfish so far at least not the way you guys make it look. As in to me it's exaggerated. And I trust you realise that of all our attackers Vicmo is the most defensively disciplined.

All you said is true. However, if Vicmo was not selfish in the second leg against Cameroon, we could have won with the match.

There was a particular moment out of few I can remember vividly he was supposed to pass rather than shot.

That particular moment was when he choosed to shot the ball in the box instead of passing the ball to Echiejile who was totally unmarked on the left side in the box.

I was personally pissed off with that his move. It is for this reason i want Echiejile in the WC squad because I noticed he sometimes sneaked into scoring position but he doesn't get the pass at the right time.

We can argue RWB because by some stroke of luck we saw both of them against the same opposition and Ebuehi bested Shehu. So we need to see Ebuehi as a RB too before we can give opinions as to who the coach should start between Ebuehi and Shehu. Till then na RWB we go dey compare them.

In my own humble assessment, we shouldn't take more than a maximum of 8 defenders as one our midfielders can comfortably play as a centre-back (Ndidi). Considering all the names we have, I would say baring injuries or loss of form, the names Forgiveness has put forward are almost sure-bets. Echiejile is I believe the only true LB, the others are kind of jack of all trades, versatile players. I would also pick Omeruo ahead of Agbo because he showed us against Argentina that he hasn't actually lost it and if we play like we did against the Argies, we would need a reliable back up for the three CBs. Unhappy as I am typing this, I think one of Shehu, Ebuhei, Aina or Idowu would have to be dropped. I would be shocked if it's Shehu so the axe is in Rohr's hand and he can swing it as he deems fit.

My list of 8 defenders would be
Ekong
Leon
Awaziem
Shehu
Echejile
Omeruo
Ebuhei
Idowu/Aina

I will say we need to see more of Idowu before we can actually say he's the best since sliced bread. Judging by Aina's first game, he wowed us all and then in the 2nd and 3rd we started seeing his weaknesses. Who knows what will happen to Tyronne and Idowu in their next games too.
Hahahaha hahahaha. Second and third trial yes. But Aina played as LWB against Argentina not LB. But I get your point because he played LB against Algeria. We need to see him on the right full back positions before we judge him conclusively. One of Aina/ Ebuehi will miss out.
