Obasanjo endorses APC moves, as party leadership visit Abeokuta
22.Dec 2013

The push by the opposition, All Progressives Congress, APC to dislodge the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP received a boost yesterday as former President Olusegun Obasanjo openly threw his weight behind the APC’s current initiatives.
The APC leadership, comprising some national leaders and governors visited him Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Saturday to solicit the former president’s support for the party in the forthcoming elections.
The party leaders, which started converging on Obasanjo’s Hilltop Mansion around 5:22pm, included former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the party’s Interim National Chairman, Bisi Akande; former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari; former speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Masari; former Borno State governor, Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff; Senator Osita Isunazor; Senator Bukola Saraki and Lai Mohammed.
Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State came to the former president’s house in company with the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissioin, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; the former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and others in a convoy of three black jeeps.
Other APC governors at the meeting included Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Abdulfattah Ahmed (Kwara), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) and Senator Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo).
The Chairman of the New PDP, Kawu Baraje led some of his members and the former Kaduna State Chairman, Yero Makama, to the meeting.
Presenting the party chieftains and the APC governors to Obasanjo during the opening of the meeting, Akande said the party was in support of the former president’s 18-page letter to President Goodluck Jonathan.
The APC National Leader, Tinubu who alluded to Obasanjo’s contribution to the building of the Nigerian nation, lamented that the country was divided more than ever.
Apparently referring to Obasanjo’s recent letter to Jonathan, he enjoined the former president not to shy away from speaking the truth.
Tinubu added that the APC had resolved to rescue Nigeria, appealing to Obasanjo to lead the mission.
“You’ve come out of tribulation and held the highest position in this country. We are here because of your courage. Nobody can say he has information more than you. You have surmounted a number of crises. Nigeria is divided more than before; to realise stable Nigeria, we want to encourage you to continue to speak the truth. We’re resolved and determined to rescue Nigeria. We want you as navigator,” he said.

How does Fayose compare to Osinbajo?
A ponmo-cutter who owes salary and pensions is no match for a cerebral professor of law who has performed credibly well when barawo bubu was in London for four months medical tourism.
Fayose should retire from politics and EFCC should charge him to court.

NIGERIA'S INTEGRITY SHOULD BE PARAMOUNT NOW, NOT REGIONAL TRICKS.

This Uche Secondus victory must have been from votes mostly by northern delegates who want north to collect presidential candidate of PDP in 2019; north wants to ensure that two northern presidential candidates emerge for the two major political parties in 2019; so that presidency remaining in the north till 2027 or beyond is assured. By 2027, it may have become offense to ask for political restructuring of Nigeria.

North wants presidency from 2019 so that the existing rigged political structure and unitary govt system that favour north economically and politically shall have be entrenched, by 2027,

North has ruled Nigeria for 41 of the country's 57 years as independent country.

A southern president is necessary at this juncture to use every tactic to get north to agree with the south to restructure Nigeria politically in a democracy, not continuing with the present skewed political structure and failed governance system created by northern soldiers.

Thanks.
The foolanis want to keep us on lock-down forever yet some southern dimwits are fighting among themselves over crumbs of chairman position. Terrible!!!

Strongest PDP supporters are Yorubas; FFK and Fayose.

PDP knows it can't win anything in the SW they know it.

PDP is dead in the SW.

Buhari is horrible but he just won.

Okupe urged aggrieved parties like Chief Olabode George, who pulled out of the race on Friday, not to blame Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, who is backing a candidate from the south-south, Uche Secondus.

Okupe, in an article titled 'Yoruba and National politics', stated that the South-west candidates could have agreed among themselves to bring out a consensus candidate in order to achieve their goal but did not. He wrote;

I read about the withdrawal of chief Bode George from the PDP chairmanship race and i was greatly saddened.

Right from the time of the late sage chief obafemi awolowo till date, the Yoruba race have never truly gotten it right politically at the National level.

The only success we ever recorded politically at the Federal level was the victory of obasanjo at the Presidential polls in 1999.
Ironically it did not have the input of the Yoruba in it, and vintage Yoruba's poor political judgement, the offer of this unprecedented national "gift" (concession) following the unjustifiable denial of MKO Abiola's mandate and unfortunate death was randomly rejected throughout the Yoruba nation.

Throughout history Yorubas are only able to view national politics from only their own perspective always expecting the other nationalities to appreciate their innate and exemplary qualities and accept same as basis for favouring them (Yoruba) in a competitive situation not withstanding the interests and desires of other nationalities.

Truly wether the Yorubas are deserving of the national chairmanship of the pdp is neither here or there.
What exactly is the use of the post of the national chairman when the presidential candidate will be elected a little after 6months. Once the Presidential candidate emerges, the national chairman becomes his senior special assistance fir political administrstion. whatever power he weilds is directly dependent on the grace and benevolence of the candidate and the president if he wins. (see oyegun for reference)

It is quite curious to me that the North has gotten the President and the east the vice president without any struggle or sweat and the Yorubas are killing themselves and begging for a post whose relevance is short lived and will require the goodwill and kindness of a soon to be elected presidential candidate to have any leverage on future political and government appointments .

So what is the logic behind putting some of our bests in a race with little or no benefit for the zone and one that we are obviously disadvantaged to run ab initio?

And if we can actually resign at the 11th hour why did we not seat down, at the early stages and agree for one person to go for it while all others step down and back him with our collective resolve and resources? if indeed this was not all a personal championship race for the candidates and not a struggle on behalf of or for the interest of the Yoruba in the pdp.

And if we really wanted to play politics, we could have approached the northwest zone and make a deal money, which none of the yoruba aspirants has, cannot buy.

the northwest is as desperate for the presidency as we are for the chairmanship. We present them with one candidate and agree to back them in the Presidential primaries which is currently being dominated by Atiku from the north east, presently.

Obviously " the fault is in us not in our stars".
We cannot blame or demonize Wike or Secundus or even criminalise the process because of our lack of the much needed political sagacity to achieve our set goal.
The lesson from history and all of this is that we Yorubas, as a foremost race in this country cannot achieve much politically relying on sentiments or goodwill of others. we need to be coldly calculative and strategic in the pursuits of our political goals and objectives.

This is a big win for Tinubu who really doesn't want an opposition figure in the SW.
With Obanikoro in his camp and Bode George next to decamp, Lagos is now firmly in the hands of APC.
Buruji Kasamu who happens to be the PDP war chest in the west will definitely take his pound of flesh on the PDP and with an aggrieved gbenga Daniel, the little relevance PDP had in Ogun will be eroded.
Ekiti PDP is on a self destruct mode, Prof Adeniran and a host of others are going back to Ekiti to teach fayose a bitter lesson. Minus Ladoja in Oyo and provided APC fields Seyi makinde APC will take the day.
PDP just gave tinubu's media machinery enough weapon to demonize and annihilate PDP in the south west.
APC will batter PDP blue black come 2019 in the SW.
