Hello NothingDoMe. To be sure, we have our own internal policies and controls.

Thanks VO. People sometimes mention the mood or disposition of the VO as a deciding factor in their application. Thinking about it I was wondering what could get a VO so annoyed (according to them) to turn down an otherwise good application (according to them).
Re: U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We’re Listening by abujaniv: 4:16pm On Dec 08, 2017
We do our best to apply the law and to not let emotion or mood impact our decisions. Customer service is a central tenet of our organization, and we try to live up to it:
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/customer-service-statement.html

Even if an applicant is rude, we would still judge them on their own merits. However, if an applicant is uncooperative --such as by giving vague or evasive answers-- then it becomes impossible for us to determine their merits, and the default answer is "no."

A manager once suggested that visa officers imagine how they would want their own parents to be treated if they were applicants.
My father is an older guy who doesn't hear so well, and he's not very sophisticated when it comes to websites. So for applicants like that, we try to speak slowly and explain whatever they don't understand right away. Above all, the applicant deserves to be treated with courtesy and respect.

He can fill out the field for his salary with the total combined income and then being sure to explain the full story at his interview. It would also be fine to fill out just part of the salary, but again explain the full story at the interview. The reason we do interviews is to get the full story, which doesn't always come out on a written application.

Hello NIV,

My husband, myself and our 5 months old baby are planning to visit the US for the first time. We are at the process of filling the application form. We have a working registered company which he is the sole signatory to the company's account. Can we provide the company's statement of account as a proof of available funds for the trip? or use his own personal account? He will only stay for a week or two cos of work, while my baby and i may stay up to a month. Secondly, as a housewife, can i still use the same statement of account? Athough my dad says he will sponsor baby and i for the trip, can we use the two statements of account? ( i mean Dad's and Husband's)

Secondly, i have not changed the name on my passport to my marital name, but have every other proof of marriage ready at hand. Do i need to change the name on passport before applying?

Hello bosstos. Applicants through the interview waiver program (dropbox) may still be called in for an interview. Sometimes it is because we have additional questions, and sometimes it is random. Anytime the actual travel deviates from what was stated in the interview/application, it invites more scrutiny.

Hello TashaStPatrik. Bank documents are not typically examined, unless the applicant endeavors to do something expensive in the US, such as education or medical care. The name on the visa must match the name in the passport.

@abujaniv ..Hi... I am new on here as someone introduced me here ..Now this is my issue ...An unfortunate incident happened as I got robbed and my passport was stolen with my ATM cards .. I went to the nearest police station to make a police report and avidavict as I was adviced to get a new passport before proceeding to the consulars office which I did within few days .A day to the new passport to be out , I got a call from the police that my passport has been recovered with other stolen items .. so I went to the immigration office and told them my passport has been recovered and asked if I need to go to the embassy again .. I was told that I don’t need to go the embassy that all they will need to do is to cancel my old passport without tampering with my US valid visa on it since I got a new passport and was told that I will need to hold both my new passport and old psssport while traveling….so I want to ask if this is right and won’t give me a problem at the US POE ? Thanks

Hello ABUJANIV & LAGOSNIV, I want to specially thank you for the insightful comments you are giving here. I have really followed this thread and I have seen several case studies and scenarios.

I had to register to ask a question because I want to fill DS160 and book appointment.

I have a conference I want to attend in the US. My company is sending me and sponsoring the trip. The flight tickets and hotel accomodation will all be booked by my company. I will be given a cash at hand of about $1000 to $2000 for feeding and other logistics. I will be staying for only 2 weeks.

I have worked in the company for more than 10 years.

I am married with a child. My wife is a student in 300 Level.

I have a letter from my employer that he's sending me for the conference. I have the company's bank account statement.

Please, I don't want to ask about my chances?

I want to ask if these ties are strong enough. Job. Wife. Child.

Thank you.

Hello Farrang. It shouldn't be an issue. If you haven't already, you should report to the Embassy/Consulate that your passport with the valid visa has been stolen. You are not eligible for the interview waiver program (dropbox), and will need to appear at the Embassy/Consulate if you wish to apply for a new visa.

Hello abujaniv,
Thank you for the clarification. I did report the loss by email to the Abuja embassy at consularAbuja@state.gov. However, I did not get an acknowledgement. Can I assume the report was taken? Moreover, I noticed the "provide feedback" menu on the CGI site. Shouldn't that be used to request an update to the passport information as applicable is this case?
Re: U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We’re Listening by oyhinmhor01: 10:14am On Dec 12, 2017
Hello House, please i have an issue that requires your swift advice.

I applied for b1 b2 visa in December 2016, i filled married as my status and entered my then fiance's name as my spouse(he already had his visa then). In Feb 2017, i attended the interview and my visa was issued. A month after, the relationship crashed. I got into another relationship in September with an Nigerian American citizen who came home in August, and immediately we did traditional marriage.

In Oct 2017, i travelled to meet him and we fixed our church wedding for Dec 9. One of our invited guests from Nigeria was delayed at the POE when she told them she was coming for my marriage. She was asked if i was married before and she said no. The US immigration people called my husband asked if i was married before and he said no. After series of scrutiny they allowed my in law entry.

We discussed this with the American pastor in our church and he said the wedding be cancelled that he can't join us together.

Please what do i do at this juncture. My passport and visa carry carry my parent name.

Hello Lolawells -

If you have already reported that visa as stolen, it is no longer valid. You should contact us in either Lagos or Abuja, whichever post issued your visa, for further guidance. We may be able to re-validate that visa, and we may need you to apply for a new visa.

Hello StoryStoryStory -

As you are clearly aware, we do not comment on chances in individual cases. If you choose to apply for a visa you may present whatever information you think is relevant at the interview to convince the Consular Officer of your ties to Nigeria.

LOST BUT FOUND PASSPORT @abujaniv
Hello .. I have a lost but found passport containing my Us valid visa. I was robbed and I made I made a report to the police immediately and headed to the immigration to get an emergency passport reissued. I was called by the Police the third day that my passport has been recovered. So I headed to the immigration office to inform them that my passport has been recovered only to get there and meet my reissued passport out. So I was told that they will need to cancel my old passport without predujice and return it back to me since it still contains my Valid Us visa.
So I was told I will have to be travel with the new passport and the old passport.

Note: I NEVER REPORTED MY PASSPORT STOLEN TO THE US EMBASSY because I found it already.

Now my question is hope I won't encounter any problem traveling with the two passport ? Because my travel date is so very close.
