Questence: is enyeama not prone to errors too? It's relative man, Enyeama's error cost us the game against France in the last world cup. He too is prone to error. 4 Likes |

Goke7:Bros I enjoyed your arguments. Please tell me on what basis are we inviting Akpeyi, Uzoho, Ezenwa or any other goalkeeper for that matter? Please break down that word 'heroics'. What's in it? I do argue like you just did and I see merit in what you have just said cos the young guns did it. If we had a solid goalkeeper do you think some will call for Enyeama? Personally I would not. This WC thing is not about youth, about old tired legs or about team spirit about any categories we have set up and argue for or against. Nope. The question should be be what would enable us post a very credible performance. Team spirit? It should be considered? Old players like Martins? He should be considered. Youthful players? Let them have their chances. We are rallying round as a nation to look at things from all angles. You asked questions like Enyeama of 2014 is he still the Enyeama of 2017? If not for his injury I would have answered you. Sincerely go back and re-evaluate things. You might not want Enyeama but what I see is not necessarily a fixation with youth or aversion for the old legs. It's a fixation with the present. Five years from now you guys will oppose the inclusion of many of the players of this present crop who are doing well. |

kennysville: My main issue is that if a player has been frozen out of a team for some time due to premature retirement reasons like enyeama or martins due to a coach's preference for other players or other reasons and the team has been playing and even winning matches without them, how come it's when we have qualified for the world cup, we suddenly remember that they are better than the current players. I don't understand that assumption. 1 Like |

kennysville:No no no. I disagree with you that I'm looking at Jay Jay through the prism of the present. I repeat he was awful by any standard in THAT MATCH. and guess what the coach subbed him off. I like my midfielders in the best of the 10's tradition as epitomised by Maradona, Jay Jay, Baggio, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo but that doesn't change the fact that Jay Jay wasn't Westerhof's preferred midfielder and I can hazard a guess to say it wasn't because of the showboating. Jay Jay was ineffective. 1 Like |

Mujtahida: @the bolded and how many goals have our current goalkeepers conceded that truly justify all the hue and cry about Enyeama? Like I said in my earlier post, we always entertain unnecessary fears about the Eagles, when we were drawn against cameroon and algeria, many wrote the team off due to the quality of players on ground, even in the last world cup, I knew high profile Nigerian journalists who wrote the Eagles off against serbia, why are we always doing this to ourselves? Even in the current world cup draw, Many of us already predicting we will be beaten silly because we don't have a keeper. And when the Eagles excel, we all begin to eat our words. At times we shouldn't over analyse things and just let things be. I bet you if those players you saying they should have their chances do have it like martins in the past and fail to perform, some will come back to defend their poor performance and blame it on the coach or other players. That is how the cycle has been and when are going to be tired moving in this cycle for Christ's sake? 7 Likes 2 Shares |

soetanoreoluwa: did you ever hear him or did he tell you that he is tired? I want to assume that you are part of the 'club form does not matter' committee so let me ask you, Dele's performance for the SE against Enyeama's performance for the SE which is better? Enyeama, tbh, is one of the people who perform just as good, if not better, for us as they do for their clubsides and on the other hand, Dele does not inspire confidence so after considering all that, who would you choose? |

Mujtahida:My man you are right on Zambia match and Westerhoff prefrence for serious midfieder. I remember Jayjay had his first appearance in national team with U 20 at Mauritius 93 with Kanu Nwankwo,Taribo West,Emma Babayaro,Andrew Aikhomogbe, Emma Teberen,Aboidun Obafemi. Jayjay was damn too beautiful to watch but very unserious player like his elder bro Emma Okocha..It seem skills flow in the family but they don't appreciate it.Emma Okocha left football too sudden after Algiers 90 until Jayjay showed up in 1993 playing with Frankfurt, check his goal against Karlsruhe with Oliver Khan in goal you will understand Jayjay was just playing the game for fun. Then Jayjay was damn young but i will not say too young but Westerhoff realised it earlier that youthful exuberance was affecting Jayjay. In our last WC qualifier match against Algeria Jayjay was on the bench cos Westerhoff knew what was at stake. If you noticed very well during US 94 Westerhoff preferred using Samson Siasia in that position than Jayjay just cos of disciplinarian play of Siasia. Pls try and watch Nig -Italy match at US 94 it was the day i will never forget in my life, very painful lost.Jayjay was just playing to the gallery, it reached a point Yekini and Finidi George were shaking their head cos they were expecting a pass but Jayjay just turned around again to dribble the set of players he has dribbled before, watching Jayjay against Denmark at France 98 should tell you Jayjay was a showman then and not a team player, Olishe was shouting we are down but Jayjay was doing his things though at the end that match fetched him a great contract to PSG. It was in the year 2000 that Jayjay realized that football is a real game not just fun, check his national team records from year 2000 and compared to 1993-2000 you would notice we had different Jayjay in 2000s but his legs couldn't carry him anymore as at 2006. If Jayjay utilised his potential fully in the 90s,Okocha would have been crown World best cos he has everything as a player but funny enough even Africa best eluded him with such great talent. 2 Likes |

Kog45: Thanks for the beautiful summary on Jay Jay. And not only him, many Nigerian players never fully reached their potential due to one reason or the other. Another major reason we keep under performing at the world cup. Being a team player is key as despite the individual brilliance of messi and ronaldo, they are very great team players hence they continue to rule the world. I hope our players learn fast enough to play for the team rather than themselves. 4 Likes |

tbaba1234:Francis Uzoho made Eagles cos of his two matches in LA liga not team B matches,so i don't reckon with this stats. The Girona match paved way for him or do you think if it's team B Rohr will consider him. Francis Uzoho should work harder and find his way back to first team even on the bench though some are arguing it playing in team B is good for his fitness but failing to realize that any emergence of any keepers doing it week in week out meaning no way for Uzoho. Truly he has the potential but that potential can only be harnessed in first team cos of his status as Eagles keeper. I know if Rohr settle for Uzoho as number one there is possibility of him meeting Deportivo coach on how he can assist cos national team coaches does it 1 Like |

Goke7:Goke7 do you remember when we had problems with the full back positions and some went as far as calling for Efe and Taiye? Do you see anyone making such calls ever so often again? I am sure you know why. Now let's take a look at the gk department. This is an issue that has lingered even when Ikeme was in the team because then we felt that if anything should happen to Ikeme we have no backup. Well, the worse happened and that's why till today the call for Enyeama has persisted. I refuse to be drawn into the old player/young player dialectic. The thing is this: why has the coach in spite of the gk he has at his disposal consistently said he's not satisfied? Do we want the good work this young men have done to be undone because we have a soft underbelly that we didn't attend to while we had the time. I am not by this making a call for Enyeama as such because the converse could be argued but still he is an option that we must reckon with. We need three gk. Two are not good enough. One has not been tested enough. So this is the situation that is prompting the call for Enyeama. If we had good gk's just like we have in other departments do you think we'd call for him? |
