The point is; at 33 he carried out his ambitions thereby cementing his name in the minds and heart of Nigerians, africans and the world at large for a long time to come. Some of you ranting or discussing history of how the war turned out, will you have the balls to launch you ideas and vision if the opportunity present itself? 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Ifeajuna and three fellow officers were accused by their own leader, General Emeka Ojukwu, of plotting against him and the breakaway Republic of Biafra. They denied charges of treason: they were trying to save lives and their country, they said, by negotiating an early ceasefire with the federal government and reuniting Nigeria. They failed, they died and, in the next two and a half years, so did more than a million Igbos. The day of the execution was 25 September, 1967, and the time 1.30pm. There was a very short gap between trial and execution, not least because federal troops were closing in on Enugu, the Biafran capital, giving rise to fears that the “guilty four” might be rescued. As the execution approached, the four men – Ifeajuna, Victor Banjo, Phillip Alale and Sam Agbam – were tied to stakes. Ifeajuna, with his head on his chest as though he was already dead, kept mumbling that his death would not stop what he had feared most, that federal troops would enter Enugu, and the only way to stop this was for those about to kill him to ask for a ceasefire. A body of soldiers drew up with their automatic rifles at the ready. On the order of their officer, they levelled their guns at the bared chests of the four men. As a hysterical mass behind the firing squad shouted: “Shoot them! Shoot them!” a grim-looking officer gave the command: “Fire!” The deafening volley was followed by lolling heads. Ifeajuna slumped. Nigeria’s great sporting hero died a villain’s death. But he had been right. By 4pm two and a half hours after the executions, the gunners of the federal troops had started to hit their targets in Enugu with great accuracy. The Biafrans began to flee and the city fell a few days later. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2014/jul/13/commonwealth-games-emmanuel-ifeajuna-nigeria 2 Likes |

MrMoney007:all African leaders apart from ojukwu,Thomas sankara and patrice lumumba are pro west puppets. Ever asked yourself why yakubu gowon returned from sandhurst England with jack in his names? The union jack is the British flag so gowon had to fight for the British flag not for the nigeria flag,if he dare to disobey, they would easily pick the mad murtala and support his coup. 1 Like 1 Share |

Ballmer:do you realise that the nigerian military lost more personnel than the biafran army , i really dont understand your rant , Alabi Isama has provided proofs of what happend , babangida, obasanjo are all nursing wounds. Nigeria military lost 5900 out of 6000 soliders in abangana which made murtala mohammed to leave the country , calling me a shameless piece of shit will not obscure history . if you want i provide a link of declassified information that showed Soviet union was disappointed with Nigeria not winning the war quickly. There are information everywhere of how The thrid Marine commando lost more than 34,000 soldiers in their ill fated operation O.A.U , so what really are you ranting and vexing about. 3 Likes |

Abagana Ambush On March 31, 1968, a 106 vehicle convoy of the Nigerian 2nd Division transporting 6000 infantry as well as armor from Onitsha to Enugu was ambushed and decimated in the town of Abagana by a small troop of Biafran soldiers led by Maj. Jonathan Uchendu. Homemade Ogbunigwe rocket missiles were launched by the Biafrans at a tanker truck carrying gasoline which caused an enormous explosion that tossed armored cars like tin cans.[10] 350 tons of equipment were destroyed or captured by the Biafran troops The successful ambush at Abagana gave both Biafran soldiers and civilians hope in the war as well as temporarily halting the Nigerian advance into Biafran territory. General Murtala Mohammed was relieved of his command and never commanded a division again.[7][10] Major Jonathan Uchendu carried out the very attack. His 39 Battalion was an offshoot of 18 Battalion commanded by Col. Nsodor. In his own words, Uchendu said the sight of the convoy almost paralyzed his troops. His boys were so anxious to start firing, more out of panic than anything else. He asked them to remain calm until he gave the command. He allowed many of the Nigerian 2 Div. convoy pass through. His boys were shocked why he would allow them go through into Biafran held zone. They were nervous, suspicious, yet they trusted he military gallantry and so awaited to know his strategy. He said they concluded that the war was over, but as brave soldiers, they must fight to the last! As he was guiding the soldier (I think a Sergeant) with the rocket launcher on what to do to the invading convoy and when best to strike, the soldier nervously and accidentally pressed the trigger, letting go the rocket! Luckily, he hit a target - a fuel Tanker! The Tanker exploded and threw its contents onto a nearby Armour carrier setting everything ablaze The multiple explosion commenced! In panic, soldiers who already crossed over into Biafran line ran in different directions in total confusion. Biafran soldiers attacked. They radioed the regular troops and they joined in the attack. When Uchendu learnt that Muritala Mohammed was with the Convoy and somewhere in Nawfia, he set off hurriedly to capture him but was late as Muritala was sighted taking off with a Helicopter 2 Likes 1 Share |

T9ksy:now listen very well, the biafrans that died during the war died in their fatherland but the 3rd marine soldiers that perished at owerri were mostly yoruba, who perished in a land they hated, never for all eternity get home, their bodies decayed in owerri while native doctors carried off their skeletal remains for fetish medicines. Likewise murtala 2nd division men who perished at abagana and onitsha.they will never see home neither can they reincarnate, they are forever trapped in our enclave.their bones unburied, they can never rest. Another yoruba brigade, navy capt makanjuola's men were eaten by the aquatic creatures of oguta lake when their vessel sank after two ogbunigwes were used on it. As for lagos,YORUBA CANNOT DEPORT IGBO FROM LAGOS. The only thing the average poor tribalistic yoruba can do is hate while your governor will soon make an igbo a commissioner. My people make lots of money in lagos and come back home to build good houses. 1 Like |
