I'm on Ubuntu artful aardvark and I must say, it lags a lot... How can I rectify this? |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 4:54pm On Dec 13, 2017 |
Opistorincos: What is the specs of your pc? Ram? CPU? How much free disk space do you have? Your pc performance is dependent on this. If your cpu is a celeron or an atom or your ram is less than 3gb, install xfce or mate as window manager instead of using gnome3 |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 4:55pm On Dec 13, 2017 |
bukiii: Are you saying you have already boot ubuntu and you're trying to install or you're still trying to boot? |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by Opistorincos(m): 5:00pm On Dec 13, 2017 |
blackweaver: 4gb ram, 800gb free space, core i3 |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 5:21pm On Dec 13, 2017 |
Opistorincos: That's surprising, your cpu specs should be able to handle almost anything thrown at it (unless you're trying to run a high end console emulator). Anyway you can still try installing mate or cinnamon and use that as a window manager instead. I'm not a fan of gnome3 myself and don't use it, so I don't know about any issues with it |

blackweaver: How do I change the windows manager |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by bukiii(f): 4:29pm On Dec 14, 2017 |
blackweaver: live booting works perfectly but when I tried to install when it's almost finished it will bring the error |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 10:09am On Dec 15, 2017 |
Opistorincos: to install cinnamon: sudo apt-get install cinnamon-desktop-environment to install mate: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-mate-desktop After installation you logout. On the logout screen there is an option to choose which window manager you want to login with |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 10:10am On Dec 15, 2017 |
bukiii: Can you post a screenshot of the error? |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by Opistorincos(m): 11:30am On Dec 15, 2017 |
blackweaver: The problem has been rectified, it was an error with my browser |

When I installed mate, two partitions were created and now I went back to windows. Please how can I delete the two partitions? Thanks. |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by 4llerbuntu(m): 5:32pm On Dec 24, 2017 |
AwesomeRomeo: Does your windows boot with grub or windows bootloader? If it's windows bootloader, you can simply delete those partitions and reclaim them with disk management tool in windows Just type 'Disk Management' into start menu search you'll see the app.... |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by IamaNigerianGuy(m): 2:16pm On Dec 31, 2017 |
Justiceotuya: I advice using 16.04 LTS. The LTS stands for Long Term Stable and tells you that this is a distro version that has had all its bugs worked out. Furthermore, it will be supported for 5 years. 17.04 is the newest version but if you develop any problems you might not be able to find a solution quickly , if at all. I had a similar problem when I tried to install the latest version of Fedora. Best to stick to the LTS release unless you are a Linux expert or just like wahala. 2 Likes |

hello everyone, I'm new here and i have been thinking of porting from windows 10 to ubuntu. I do graphics, so i wanna know how well it works with graphics softwares such as coreldraw, photoshop, etc 1 Like 1 Share |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by 4llerbuntu(m): 5:19pm On Jan 02, 2018 |
gamyy: No. No coreldraw/ photoshop. There are alternatives but you'll have to learn them, and they may not have all the features you are used to. There are also ways of running Windows applications on Ubuntu, but being a newbie, the whole setup might be too much for you to handle. If you really are interested in Ubuntu, Learn how to dualboot it with your current windows. That way you can learn how to use it gradually and see if you'll like it, And also still have your current windows setup for your work. |

@4llerbuntu, blackweaver, please a friend of mine is running on Windows 8 but want to port to Linux Mint, and having challenges with his HDD, can he just upgrade with his files intact? Definitely I know the programs must go. 1 Like 1 Share |
