very very correct information...confirmed from my bank too
zamirikpo:

By my reckoning this information is wrong. From a lay man's point of view, secondary market is not quoted like the primary market and almost always doesn't include 364days.

2. Until the next executive council meeting of the CBN to restructure our economic policies, rates cannot go below 14%. Get ur facts right b4 misleading people.

I went to stanbic on Monday and placed a bid for TB from the primary market but they called me today that they won't be an auction tomorrow so they wanted to know if they can keep my bid till January but I said no.. I asked them to refund my money and dude said the money is already in my account but when I wanted to make a transfer with the mobile app, I was seeing insufficient credit!!!!. do I need to go to the bank before my money will reflect in my account?

Gbam!

feelamong:

Prepare your selves for far lower rates in Treasury Bills.

As we speak, we are now seeing single digit rates for many Bills in the Secondary market.

Unless Emefiele comes with an aggressive OMO auctions in the new year (which we very well doubt) its time to invest re evaluate Tbills Investment if you want high yields on your money

please ever investor should watch that video....highlight 1 the 500 million euro around 200 bn can only redeem around 15 percent of treasury bills 85 percent still remaining 2 the remaining 3 bn dollar will use to finance budget deficit(instead of borrowing from tb) 1.2 trillion naira 3.nvestor will move fund to longer bonds at 15.54 the high demand will crash rate in the bond markets... with crude at 65 dollar and 35 bn dollar reserve the cbn is in comfortable position and doe not need the foreign dollar inflow to invest in treasury bill at high rate ...but in the end we are all winners if rate go low but not below inflation ,cos the debt sustainability by federal government and zero risk of default is strengthen ...we dont want the Greece thing here brace up for 13 percent ....or better buy a bond

Treasury Bill rate has gone south. We all knew the rate is not sustainable on the long run. The talk of the town now is Diamond investment note (DIN) issued by diamond bank. You can get rates as high 17% depending on the amount. It works exactly like treasury Bill but more flexible. You can can send me an email Kowaski365@gmail.com for more information or visit the branch closest to you.

you are 100% correct but the rate you get depends on the amount you have ooh. then the risk level just went up.

the question is why will diamond be offering such juicy rates, hope there are no hidden problems. how do u test the strength/stability of banks today

There was no auction, all secondary market rates are all below 8%. I confirmed from Zenith Bank. CBN finally implemented financial policy for the Minister of Finance by using revenue accrued from Eurobonds to offset matured Tbills. The next auction would be 4th of January, 2018. Hopefully our government would have spent alot during this festive season which may necessitate the rates to edge back up next year.

ok. just called sterling bank treasury department a few minutes ago and i was told that dumping my TB now would be at 20% discount rate(secondary market) ,unless they get an outright buyer for less than that. she said the bank was under no obligation to buy back any bills.

so the banks would buy back ur tb at 20% to make a profit from you . they would only do it at less that percentage if they find an outright buyer. the question now is , who will buy tb now at 8%.
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by damilola1978: 8:00am On Dec 14, 2017
My dear nobody like myself would want to buy at 8%. For the banks this situation is a win-win. If they can put up your Tbills at a reasonable rate in secondary market, it would be bought. I advise that if you do not have urgent need to liquidate your investment, just patiently wait till maturity, if not you may end up making a loss

you are absolutely right, thanks for your input. i dont have any need for the money, just wanted to dump the bills in order to key into some other investment opportuinities. as it is, the era of TB is over until further notice.

as if I knew this would come to this. I terminated my tb last month to buy bitcoin when it was 6k plus. No regret anyway. 150% ROI. When the rates are back I will move my profit back to TB and continue on both front.

I saw it coming too especially with the positive GDP growth rate and decline in inflation together with the decision of the FGN to go for dollar denominated debts. As per bitcoin its been a good deal for me I must confess.

The lesson is we should all understand the times and seasons we are in. Information is key

But all should be aware of the risk involved. The bears and sharks are real.

Any sane and serious investor would have seen this coming, anyway. I saw it all coming since August and I quickly keyed in when the rates were 18% and above because I sensed that we were then in the best of times on TBills. Ever since, my attention has been focused on the NSE where it is happening big time right now. More funds, I am confident will move into NSE for the bumper season ahead! Information and timing is key to financial investment. One lesson we must all learn. Except that one is guaranteed preservation of capital, anything less than 15% on TBills at this time when there are alternative competitive investment vehicles is a joke. The cycle will play out though as the economy takes a new turn come 2018, hoping that oil price will continue to inch up and the govt is able to key in and sustain potential growth in the real sector.

dont panic the 500 m euro loan can only off set 200 bn of the 3 trillion naira tb portfolio the goverment want to reduce reduce the tb(short instrument) debt percentage by 10 percent from 35 percent to 25 percent this is the maximum cap while remaining 75 percent will be a combination of euro bond ,naira bond, dollar bond (remember this also have risk to the goverment it affect the dollar position of Nigeria )...over 750 bn of treasury bill will be roll over next year....the remaining 3 bn dollar loan will be used to finance budget deficit...remember ...tb is not for financing only but also used to manage liquidity ,curb inflation .....rate will still be above 13 percent in the interim in the primary markets .....my advice if u want constant money over a long term buy bond and hold to maturity it can give u stability for over 5 years period at 15.54 then used the by annual payement and reinvest in tb.....your portfolio will be a mix of bond(15.54) tb(13) matualfund(15)

DIN is minimum of 5 million naira. And the rate is not up to 17% as you indicated. On 5 million you get 50k per annum as interest at 10% indicaed on their website. 180 days is 25k. That's too low.

Imagine buying bitcoin of 300plus and just keeping for a month and value now up to 800 plus now. This was a fee kept for my M.Sc.

Bitcoin has been my financial regret of 2017 selling my btc on 11/03/2017 for 257k and value now 2.6million.

A hard lesson that have thicken my risk towards investment I must say

When I went last to terminate my last investments the man in charge had to even if I was getting married as he was curious to why I kept terminating my investment. Well how do I explaib crypto in a banking hall. I just told him it is for an emergency.
