Ilechukwu: MFM Not Scared Of CAF Champions League Opponents Peter Oriaku By Adeboye Amosu: MFM FC head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has backed his team to have a good outing in the CAF Champions League despite having to face tough opponents in the preliminary and first rounds, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. The Olukoya Boys who finished second in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season will compete in the competition for the first time. The Lagos club will come up against Malian side Real Bamako in their first ever game in the CAF Champions League and should they scale through that hurdle, then they could face Algerian club MC Alger in the first round should the North Africans beat AC Atoho of Congo in their preliminary round fixture. However, despite the enormity of the task before his team, the young coach is refusing to lose sleep and is confident they will go far in the competition. “You don’t play football on the pages of newspapers. Nobody gave us the chance to do what we did in the league last season and we will carry that same spirit into the Champions League,” Ilechukwu told Completesportsnigeria.com here in Kano where MFM are participating in the NPFL Invitational along with five other teams. “Our opponents are more experienced than us having played on the continent for a number of years, but we are not concerned about that. “What is important is also having the determination to play and beat them. We have quality too and I see no reason why we should be afraid of them.” MFM FC will travel to Bamako to face their opponents on February 9 and host the return fixture on February 18. https://www.completesportsnigeria.com/ilechukwu-mfm-not-scared-caf-champions-league-opponents/amp/ |

terzurum5: I have really never cared about other people's view about the SE even if they like let them say we'll be pummelled 19-0 it's just freedom of speech which shall tell on match day. I really want us to have adequate preparations that would make us play as a unit(like the Germans) not selfish individual football. We should play without fear and over respect to our opponents. If only we could be as disciplined as the Germans going into every competition 10 Likes 1 Share |

Ghana Stars Mohammed, Umar: Why We Joined ‘Nigeria’s Best Club’ Enyimba Peter Oriaku By Adeboye Amosu in Kano: Ghanaian midfielders Farouk Mohammed and Tofic Umar have told Completesportsnigeria.com that they are proud to have joined seven-time Nigeria Professional Football League champions and two-time African champions Enyimba who they refer to as one of the best clubs in Africa. Mohammed and Umar joined the Peoples Elephant on free transfers following the expiration of their contracts with Ghana Premier League clubs Elmina Sharks and Aduana Stars. “I had been hearing about the name of the club (Enyimba) right from when I was young and I feel great to be part of the team now,” Mohammed told Completesportsnigeria.com at Enyimba’s Dabo Guest Inn base here in Kano. “I had offers from clubs in Ghana and other African countries too, but I decided to join Enyimba because of their pedigree in Nigeria and Africa. “Having Fatau Dauda here too has helped me settle down and our new teammates have received me well and made me feel at home too. “My main target is to help the club win the league title next season and the CAF Confederation Cup.” An elated Umar also shared his views with Completesportsnigeria.com, stating: “To have the chance to play Enyimba I must say it’s a great privilege for me. “We are talking about the best club in Nigeria and one of the best in Africa. I just want to write my name in history by winning trophies here. “Nana Bonsu did with Rangers two years ago and I want to do the same with Enyimba.” |

junnyjake: If you can't stand the heat do not go into the kitchen. Competition does not reduce quality it increase it, by implication you are implying he is not good enough. He needs bto understand the speed, intensity and physicality of the EPL is unlike any other league in the World. That's why it is the most competitive. The reality is that KC has been unable to cut it and if he can't cut it at Leicester then he will not be moving to Arsenal or Tottenham. Bit he will not be the first or last. This is why the EPL is not for everyone. |

forgiveness: Agreed 100% It is ludicrous for us to be using age as a standard when we all know that age cheating is in our DNA. Firstly, we have no automatic birth data capture so nobody born in Nigeria can have any authentic verifiable age certification. Even our Presidents age is up for question. Even the MRI is not 100% fool proof as it is an indicative component giving conclusive evidence of what age range you most likely are. Not your actual age. Age in this regard should never be a yardstick particularly in Nigeria. For goodness sake I have known guys who got married to females older than themselves but it was too late when they found out. komekn, I know you like everything English but you gotta agree with me on this one: English players are generally overrated. The British media and pundits tend to rate them way above their levels; hence, two things always happens with them: 1. They flop each time they move overseas to play 2. England ever wins anything in international competition Bottom line, these players are simply NOT good enough. Don't get me wrong, I like some of their players notably: Danny Rose, Kyle Walkers, and a few other, but in general most English players are overrated. If not for EPL, most of them would not be playing for teams like Chelsea, Man Utd, ManCity, Spurs, or Arsenal. O pari komekn: |

Actually, I am not. I have always regarded Kane as a top player, but not anywhere near world class. And definitely not anywhere near the Messi, Neymar, and Cristiano Ronaldo levels as the UK pundits want us to believe. Having said that, I also think that KC is a potential top player who, unfortunately, hasn't been given enough opportunity to show class. Let's hope he start in Russia and use that as another launching pad for this career. O pari Mickael2: |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by komekn(m): 8:10pm On Dec 14, 2017 |
Icon79: That's a very sweeping statement. English players in general lack the technical astuteness required for the top teams in La Liga and I mean Barca and Real Madrid. However, there are other attributes which I never use to rate, probably because I was very biased towards all things technical and flair. Having been involved with a lot of English clubs I have had to concede grudgingly that there are other attributes that give you competitive edge. Such as tenacity, anticipation, work rate, physicality and sheer relentless doggedness. I have seen very good top level technical teams beaten by teams with far less technical ability using these attributes However, there are at the top level some English players exceptional technical ability. Rooney, Lalana, Sturridge, Stones, Gomez, Zaha, Dele, and the new breed of young players are now just as good technically. But in addition they have far greater awareness and quality delivery in high tension games which is what the EPL teaches you. |

I think you misunderstood me. I am not saying that English some players are not good, my point is that they are grossly overrated by the British media and pundits. There are a few good players that have come out of England but in each case the British media would go crazy with their baseless comparisons. Unfortunately, each time they are put to test, they would fail woefully. Gareth Bale had one good season with Spurs (and skinned the aged Maicon) then the British pundits went bananas. To hear them, you'll think that Bale had suddenly became the second coming of Pele. Poor Real Madrid, they bought the hype and paid a king's ransom on Bale. Well, we all know how that is working out. And I can tell you right now that Harry Kane would be a big flop if he moves to Real Madrid. Go write it down! And by the way, Wilfred Zaha is an Ivorian player not British, so take his name outta there O pari komekn: 2 Likes |

komekn: Make we hear word abeg. Gomez nullified Neymar. Do u care to see other league matches besides the EPL at all? Nantes against Psg, Awaziem single-handedly rendered Neymar useless, at the end of the day, Unai Emery and Psg president went complaining to the France FA and the referees Union (whatever the body is called), that Neymar needs protection from no joy (no nonsense) players like Awaziem. In essence, getting Neymar nullified in a match ain't no big deal. If u say it ain't no mean fit, thats cool, but remember people have been doing it without making noise unlike Gomez and the English media (u inclusive). 5 Likes |

Icon79: Put it this way if Kane was in Leicester do you think he will be warming the bench. In reality KC has actually had too much opportunity in the context of the EPL. In the EPL you get maybe 2/3 games to show your quality or at least your potential quality. Demarai Grey was benched when KC was playing new manager comes in and in one game has claimed permanent position. He has taken his opportunity. KC is playing in the U23 is he the top scorer in the U23 league, how many goals has he scored how many hat tricks Currently there is a young teenager called Eppiah who is currently performing more than him at least in the U23's. So what opportunity is he supposed to be given a whole season. Musa left the Russian league with the belief that he would light up the EPL but has essentially flopped. However, nobody is saying he wasn't given an opportunity. Can I ask why It smacks of a double standard with regards to KC. 1 Like |
