A foot in the door number and position for now. I heard so many success stories that started from a foot in the door from the ACCA members networking I attended yesterday. Once you familiarise yourself with the HR, you will be top on their mind for any opening that is related to your profession vascey: 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Negotiate: salford1 is right, the bicycle as a primary use of transport in Canada is only possible in dreams And now that winter is here where even car driving takes skill, bicycles have all gone into storage and it's not an exaggeration. It's just not feasible so rathe,r budget up to $4,000.00 for a decent used car to get you around depending on your taste. But beware of cars that are dirt cheap to avoid buying a lemon, you want to own/use the car and not the other way around. After landing for me, it was buses, taxis and trains until my wife got her job then I opened my tight hands and got a car I just wanted to hold on to our POF until Canadian income was coming in to avoid using money for family living to maintain a car, pay insurance, etc. It helped that we landed in summer and that my kids loved the buses here since they had never used public transport/taxis back in Nigeria. I remember the first time I took them on keke Napep in my Gbagada neighborhood for the experience, it was like Disney World to them! Anyway, once you're used to Google Maps as a means to plan your movements and get a travel card like Ontario's Presto, you will do okay. The key is to plan your trips out, note the route and the wether you will need buses/trains (I recommend using them just to help you learn to get around your city) and always set out early. If you have young kids, then taxis will do the trick for you for family outings. 12 Likes 8 Shares |

EzeIgboNwaChukwu: Hello, sorry.. I'm not a career counsellor oohhh.. I'm just a purpose-driven person..Anyway, if anything, I'ld advise that you find something that you're passionate about and comfortable doing with or without financial gain. Something that drives you to do more, give more, and be more. When you find that thing, hold onto it and never let it go... Your career should be a depiction of the person you are and should be relevant to the society. For further questions, send a dm to avoid derailing the thread. Cheers 3 Likes 1 Share |

Hi Vascey/ anyone who can help Pls I need to find out if WES /ICAS report used immigration is Ok to present to CPA (during the process of converting ACCA to CPA) or one needs an upgraded one IF yes, which assessment will one upgrade to? Thanks vascey: 1 Like |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by vascey(m): 12:56pm On Dec 15, 2017 |
follyzee: Yes you can. You need to send them an email to find out if they will take the soft copy or whether you need to ask WES to deliver a copy to them (at a cost). I went through the transcript/school confirmation method and I am still on it. Unfortunately I have been caught by this current NASU strike so the process is basically on pause. Thankfully my WES report just came out but I am concerned about sending them a copy of WES report. I am wondering if CPA BC would halt my conversion when they realise I am doing it for immigration purposes. If the NASU strike is not called off soon, I may have no alternative other than to use my WES report. Good luck. |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by vascey(m): 1:00pm On Dec 15, 2017 |
@follyzee I don't think you need to upgrade. They are not particular about your degree or courses. They just want to be sure you have an equivalent of University degree from an acceptable university and I believe all WES reports show that. But you can engage them to be sure before you take any action so you don't spend money unnecessarily. Cheers |

Hi guys, Is it advisable to resign once you get PPR. Plan to land by Feb ending and I need to give 2 months notice at work. I have sent passport to ghana but no update from them for 2weeks now. Please advice. |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by einsteino(m): 3:00pm On Dec 15, 2017 |
crazyinlove: mek i find trouble small . how many months notice does your firm need to give you when they decide to fire you? anyways you signed the agreement, you'd have to give them their 2months notice if you know you would ever need a positive reference/assistance from them in future. 2 Likes |

[quote author=czaratwork post=63235611] My sister you mean. I am still in the process. The mistake i made was to write BC that i am in Ontario for them to move my file to Ontario. I was supposed to be inducted in November but as i type now, i dont even know the status of my application. I only got a mail that my file has been transferred to them in October and dats all. I have sent their automated enquiry mail but no response. I have also tried to speak with the registrar's office only to drop voicemail for them. I may be there physically tomorrow if time permits me. My dear this land is to each his own. You can't use another person's story to know what lies in wait for you. I have learnt that not just because everybody has different story to tell but because MY CASE IS DIFFERENT. You will understand in fullness of time. Meanwhile you can never be hungry here. There are always jobs to pay the bills and worse case scenario you become government pickin wey dem go dey pay allowance (not advisable though). Then the accounting and finance jobs are more in Ontario (Toronto to be precise). But i hear rent high for dat side na im make i go live for nearby to dey commute. Resume writing is a big deal here because of the keywords the scanning machines look out for in a resume. You need to get your resume right to be called for interviews. The bigger deal is Canadian experience which they won't tell you. This doesn't matter for IT people. They believe IT is same everywhere. The same way you do network security in Nigeria is the same way it is done in Canada. Infact this is so true because some of my sister's colleagues got their job before moving while the rest got theirs immediately they got here. As an accountant you need to know your excel very well. Vlookup and pivot table are very important to them. Then QuickBooks is very popular here too. If you have worked in an organisation that use ERPs like Oracle and SAP(?) Then you are hotcake. I have not seen where the job ad has finacle or flexcube experience requirement(Bankers). The above is just a general observation. There are exceptions to the rules. I have to stop here for now. Like i said no two people have the same story. Ontario is yours to discover (its written on their plate numbers). hi...I liked your post. i just wanted to ask which of the neighbouring town you commute from to work.My wife and i are arriving in April. I am an accountant with ACCA currently working on my CPA. what's the best route for conversion?I do not want to go through that hassle of BC CPA since i will be arriving in Ontario. You mentioned flexcube and it got me laughing cos that what my wife uses at her office(bank). What's the likelihood of her getting abank job in Toronto? Thanks |

I sent my ECA to them n they said I shld tell WES to Forward to them I noticed thru my correspondences with them that they enjoy delaying. So just wanted to be sure the ECA can also be used . Thanks once again Vascey vascey: |
