I hold no grudge against Brendan Rodgers, says Efe Ambrose

Samuel Ahmadu

Following his stellar performance in Hibs' draw against Celtic last Sunday, the Nigerian insists he has no hard feelings against his former boss.

Efe Ambrose says he is 'always grateful' to Celtic coach Brendan Rodgers, and claims he holds 'no grudge' against him.

The 29-year-old was shipped out of Parkhead on loan to Hibernian earlier in March and the center-back has long recovered his form under Neil Lennon at Easter Road.

The Nigerian was on the scoresheet as Hibernian fought back from two goals down to secure a dramatic 2-2 draw against his former side.

"Well, I thank God for his favour upon my career. He is behind my good performances," Ambrose told Goal.

"For my critics, criticism is part of the game and that has only made me stronger, better and will drive me to the next level of my career.

"I do not hold any grudge or bitterness against my former coach (Brendan Rodgers) because be helped my career behind the scene and I will always be grateful for the opportunity he gave me."

Reflecting on his goal and draw against the Hoops, Ambrose said: "It was a great feeling for me scoring my first league goal this season but the draw was a great result for us.

"Celtic were not better than us in that game but had luck on their side to be ahead of us first. I remembered promising to score soon. But I never expected it will happen so soon and let alone against my former team.

"For the team, we knew a point was very important and can really make big difference at the end of the season. So we fought hard to get a draw in the match."

On Wednesday's 2-1 home loss to Rangers, the defender says his side will keep fighting to finish among the top teams in the Scottish topflight.

"We have to move on and keep fighting to end up there with the best teams. We know Rangers were a good side, even though we had an away win over them," he continued.

"We will remain focus and continue to respect every opponent that comes our way and we must fight hard and approach every game like a Cup final. Winning games are never easy but we have to earn it."

Hibs are fourth on the Scottish Premiership log with 30 points from 18 games and will travel to face third-place Aberdeen at Pittodrie Stadium on Saturday.

Manu Garba Returns As U17 Coach, Maikaba Appointed U20 Coach, Aigbogun Gets U23

The Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) have concluded discussions on the coaches of the various male youth teams of Nigeria ‎namely the Under-17, 20 and 23.

Manu Garba has been handed back the job of the coach of the Nigeria U17 team, and the soft spoken coach who excelled i‎n the role in 2013, when he lead Nigeria to the World Youth Championship title has already started the job of scouting for players.

Under his tutelage, Nigeria failed to qualify for the last edition of the U17 championship losing to Niger Republic during the qualifiers for the African edition of the championship, which also serves as the qualifiers for the U17 World Championship.

Coach Abdullahi Maikaba who was earlier announced as the U17 coach ‎by the NFF will handle the U20’s popularly called the Flying Eagles, and his main task will be to return them back to the their position in Africa and in the World after their failure to qualify for the African and World Championship last time out.

The Nigeria U23s, which is the team that plays at the Olympic games are going to be under the tutelage of the coach of Enyimba FC of Aba, Paul Aigbogun.

An official announcement will be made soon by the NFF but Owngoalnigeria.com gathered that all the above mentioned coaches have been contacted by the football house in Nigeria on their recent appointment.

But Sokari is in good form. He was the November player of the month in Tunisia.

I wanted to say that too.. And played 99 percent of their matches this season

Agreed 100%

It is ludicrous for us to be using age as a standard when we all know that age cheating is in our DNA.

Firstly, we have no automatic birth data capture so nobody born in Nigeria can have any authentic verifiable age certification. Even our Presidents age is up for question.

Even the MRI is not 100% fool proof as it is an indicative component giving conclusive evidence of what age range you most likely are. Not your actual age.

Age in this regard should never be a yardstick particularly in Nigeria. For goodness sake I have known guys who got married to females older than themselves but it was too late when they found out. Pikins don enter.

Honestly, it is indeed ludicrous to use age as a standard to discredit players.

You are right on point.

I have long accepted the MRI as a very very very good standard.
You say the MRI is not 100%, the yardstick that you have been using to measure the EPL, is it fool proof, sir Komekn ?
If we choose not to accept the ages of the players that have passed the MRI, then let's also not trust science. Everything is hardly 100% accurate.

Discrediting players based on age is quite petty. Emphasis should be on performance not age.
The Swiss grand master Roger Federer at 36 played his best tennis at the Aussie open and Wimbledon. As a matter of fact, he won the Wimbledon without dropping a set.

In athletics, current world 100 meters champion Justin Gatlin is no spring chicken.

How about basketball? LeBron James is 32 and still looks unstoppable. I watch him power through games and dominate much younger players with ruthless abandon.

Stated above are 3 physically demanding sports. One may even argue these sports are much more physically demanding than football, yet the best in these sports aren't teenagers.

I don't know why people insist we must go to the world cup with an U23 team. Not when the last 4 world cup finals have been contested by older and experienced teams.
Anyone in doubt should check the average age of world cup finalists from 2006-2014

If Onyekuru is wise, he shouldn't be in a rush to go back to Everton by January, or else he'd end up like Nacho. There's Calvert lewin, Lennon, Lookman, Rooney, Sandro, klanssen, so there's no walking straight into their starting 11.

I disagree bruh! They dont have the same playing style. Onyekuru has a higher work rate and thats what he has over players like Calvert. Thats y in modern day football, there is no such thing as starting 11 anymore. Else you get predictable every now and then. And what happens when members of ur supposed startin 11 get injured?

If club managers arent bias and will play according to their strengths, the results will be there for all to see. Look at Arsenal's last game! They played with the intensity required. They were just unlucky to come away with a draw. It was the first time I saw Wenger play with attacking intent throwing all his guns out. Not with sentiments. You could see Iwobi given the permission to shoot unlike when he was always passing

why should I give u a valid reason when am not rohrs PA nor his scout??

HE is the gaffer and that's what he is been payed for...all we request from him is results and nothing more. ..if he likes, let him invite Islamist terrorists to play for us.. that's no body business..

you're talking of one of the best players in the one of the most organised league in Africa....this guy used to be the pass master in the npfl....had it been he is a Tunisian..he would have been playing in their national team by now...

please forget it the guy is good....let him be tried in the friendly...I think rohr is still looking for one more midfielder wit the quality of a CM....reason for his invitation.
maybe chidiebere nwakali did not measure up....
I know about Sokari. He used to be dubbed as the "Nigerian iniesta" those days. My point is many said Rohr is looking for someone to replicate Onazi's work and I'm asking why Sokari and not Joel Obi and Azubuike?? Both have better defensive qualities and offer more versatility(especially Joel Obi). I'm not against inviting him but it'd be unfair if someone like J Obi doesn't get an opportunity as well.

If you can't stand the heat do not go into the kitchen.

Competition does not reduce quality it increase it, by implication you are implying he is not good enough. He needs bto understand the speed, intensity and physicality of the EPL is unlike any other league in the World. That's why it is the most competitive.

The reality is that KC has been unable to cut it and if he can't cut it at Leicester then he will not be moving to Arsenal or Tottenham. Bit he will not be the first or last. This is why the EPL is not for everyone.
Let's see how far premiership clubs go in the Champions league this season.
