The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria on Thursday began repair works on the runway of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
Herrienta Yakubu, the General Manager in charge of Corporate Affairs, FAAN, stated this in a statement she issued in Lagos on Thursday.
She said that the first phase of the repair works would run from December 14 to December 21, 2017 while the second phase would be between December 27, 2017 and January 4, 2018.
Yakubu said: “There will be skeletal operations at the airport while the work is ongoing as the runway will open for operations from 0700 hours local time till 1500 hours local time on the proposed dates.
“This is to enable the contractor has enough working hours during the day time in order to obtain stable and even runway surface, while also completing the work within the stipulated timeframe.
“In line with Standards and Recommended Practices, FAAN has requested the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency to issue a Notice To Air Men in this regard.”
She said that FAAN apologised to intending travellers and the general public for any inconvenience the action might have on their plans.

Why would they choose it's busiest week in the year for their diabolical "repairs". Which they will still not do, because the intention is merely to stop Igbos from using the airport to make their trip back home smoother.

Why can't they postpone the repairs they failed do for the entire year to February of 2018? And reroute Enugu traffic to Owerri and Port Harcourt airports which are the closest airports

The airport was safe to land Buhari's plane about 3 weeks ago, but its suddenly unsafe because they know these few weeks in december are when the airport is truly used.

Meanwhile, aviation experts have said the palliative works on the runway is a waste of money as what the Enugu runway currently need is complete rehabilitation. Reacting, Group Captain John Ojikutu Rtd said “We had palliative repairs about twice if not thrice on Abuja runway first in 2010, 2014/2015 before the 2017 total rehabilitation. Those repairs before the 2017 rehabilitation were waste and that is what we are planning to repeat for Enugu airport runway”.

He added that:“The palliative repairs can only sustain the landing of B737 weight and not for the landing of bigger aircraft that foreign airlines are flying into the airport. If FAAN does not want to continue to waste its scarce fund on the runway, or cause a disaster in the airport, it should prevail on the political interests that opened the airport to international flights to allow runway to be closed for a complete reconstruction and upgrade its load classification number (LCN) from 50 to at least 80 if not 100”.

Since 2016, we have complained about potholes on the runway, your wicked father refused to address them because it's in hated 5%ers side of the country. The state government and others got together and fixed the bad spots.

We had called for an upgrade of Owerri airport first and then a specified period of closure for Akanu Ibiam Intl. airport for about 6 weeks as in the case of Abuja airport and divert all Enugu domestic and international traffic to Owerri airport which is closer for the people to their final destination. From 2016, till date you ignored it. You even ignored it during the visit of Buhari 3 weeks ago, which would have been perfect. Then in the week of christmas you suddenly remembered?

Folks have been crying for the FG to return Enugu intl. airport to the state government or concession it because it's clearly obvious they are hellbent on killing it. Common windows that fell off for 2 years now hasn't been repaired. Rain drench people while they are inside the terminal building. Who are you fooling?

Speaking of building airports, the FG only built airports in northern and Western Nigeria. Imo, Enugu and Asaba airports were NOT built by the Federal Government. They were only handed over by the respective state governments. Anambra is currently building one, so shatap on spreading lies and face facts.
