Good mng all, please I don't know where am getting it wrong in my ielts, I wrote the fourth ielts on Dec 2, n I followed all the advice given to me on d forum. But my listening n reading result broke my heart it was 7n 6. Mwhile when I practice listening myself get 35 and above each time I practice on my own. Planning to book another test, as its d only way out. Pls do I change my center or what will u suggest. Just received my masters evaluation and I need the test before my next B-Day. Plz advice

35 is an 8, so any lil Bleep up can see you slipping to 7.5. I would advise you practise until your score range is 37 and above. Changing your center? does your center not provide headphones? or is the environment not conducive?

I would say when you practice, keep a record of all your answer scripts. analyse them to see what section you typically fail, and write notes detailing why you think you failed them. This would help inform you on where you need to improve on and how best to go about it.

Hello Ladon7,

First, I admire your persistence. However, for you to have written the test four times without getting your desired score means you need to change your strategies. You need to relax. Take a deep breath. Don't rush to book another test. You need to analyse the part(s) where you are weak. How can you do this?

The Listening Module: You said your practice test is okay but the real test is the main issue. Does that means your mind do wander away when the tape is playing? Or could it be that you are not practising under exam conditions? Exam conditions such as being strict when marking, not pausing the tape and the like. Or are you always practising with easy questions that is nothing when compared to the real test?

The essence of what I'm trying to say is that you should identify what you are doing that is wrong. Definitely, something is wrong somewhere. It could either be the strategies you are using, or lack of concentration or even exam anxiety. You can look for an exam centre that do provide Bluetooth headphones if your centre doesn't provide one.

The Reading Module: One important thing to note about this module is that timing is very important. You need to learn to time yourself when doing your practice tests and adhere to it strictly. For instance, you can learn to spend 50 minutes in answering all the questions instead of the normal 60 minutes when doing your practice tests. This will help you to manage your time when you are under exam conditions. Learn other ways to manage your time. It is also important to learn your own strategies before doing the real test. For example, Mr A's strategy for answering TFNG questions will definitely be different from Mr B's strategy. Learn all these before doing the real test. Improve your vocabulary and learn their synonyms too. Check google for tips to score a '9' in the reading module.

Also, do not focus solely on the listening and reading modules. Don't let it be the case that you will focus on those two and neglect the other two modules when practising. There are many websites and materials to aid you in your preparations. Also note that it is not just about reading this and that. Make sure you use the RIGHT materials/websites.

Finally, Don't be mad at yourself. Just like what @Einsteino said yesterday, each person's path is different. The fact that someone made it at first attempt does not make that person a genius. And the fact that you didn't make it at the first attempt doesn't make you a failure. Thomas Edison's teachers said he was "too stupid to learn anything". He was fired from his first two jobs for being "non-productive". As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, "How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?" Edison replied, "I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps".

Tell yourself you can do it. Yes, YOU CAN. It is important that you identify your weak points and work on them before booking another test. During your next (final) test, relax before and during the exam. Don't be anxious and scared. Always remind yourself that YOU CAN DO IT.

May you get your desired score in your next (final) attempt. Amen.

Hello poster, I must commend ur persistence in trying to conquer IELTS. Its rather dishearting that it's taking this long. Don't be overly worried.....its not the end of the world. Its jus another 68k which i must admit, would be way lot to part again. Just GO FOR IT. I will recommend u make use of materials from well known professionals n their sites as there are many locally made tests online that are "rather easy" giving a false sense of progress. Plus pay attention to instruction. Pay close to the minute-est detail. Free ur mind n practice the test under the same exam condition. Learn the think only about the tape playing without ur mind going over anything else.....its just 30mins but u very much understand the implications of ur attention going off beat for even a second.
For reading, I found out that practicing with an actual printed test helps a lot. Using the PC doesn't not help atall. Scrolling up and down the screen. U end up actually completing the test but way more than an hour. U now feel u ain't doing well.....mounting more pressure which doesn't help with ur confidence.
U ain't solving any thing. U ain't tested for ur knowledge. ITS JUST ENGLISH. U have this mindset, u r already winning.
Knowing its more or less the last hurdle to getting in the pool should spur u to get it done and done well.
Remember, u are 50% done. Me? 50% also but Wes is frustrating me badly plus the ongoing Strike. So no feel say na only U dey hear am!!!! cheesy

Hello @Ladon7 in addition to what has been said, I suggest you look at the question types for each section and understand the types of questions and tips on answering them. You can get these from road to ielts, ielts liz, ielts buddy and ielts advantage. For example in reading, you need to learn how to skim the text, and how to locate answers.

https://www.ieltsadvantage.com/reading/

You can do it!!!

If they happen to dish out ITAs to top CRS applicants, then chances are it will drop. When a lot of applicants with high scores are plentiful in the pool, then it will take a some time...my opinion

plz guys when will BC send the hard-copy results. I think we cant enter the pool till we get it, right? I wrote in PH but I don't reside in PH. Or is it better to go to PH and collect it, will they give it to me?

I heard it is only people who stay in the same city should come to thier office for collection. I need to tidy things before traveling for Christmas joor. I don't joke with Christmas holiday, it is too sweet.
