For your information OP, a soldier is for the Army, the man who is been awarded by the President is a newly commissioned Officer. Officers are the cadets who pass through five years in the Nigerian Defence Academy for a Regular Course or the men who go through 7 months intense training for the Direct Short Service Course or Short Service Course.

Army= Officer(takes orders from Senior Officer's and the President of Nigeria and He gives orders to soldiers) & Soldier(takes orders from Officer's, soldiers who are higher in rank and the President of Nigeria)

Air Force= Officer(takes orders from Senior Officer's and the President of Nigeria and He gives orders to Airmen) & Airman(takes orders from Officer's, Airmen who are higher in rank and the President of Nigeria)

Navy= Officer(takes orders from Senior Officer's and the President of Nigeria and He gives orders to Sailors) & Sailors/Seamen/Mariners (takes orders from Officer's, Sailors who are higher in rank and the President of Nigeria)

The reason people see all military personnel's as soldier is because the Army are mostly responsible for executing objectives and missions on Land while Airforce takes care of the Air and Navy attends to the sea. So when a civilian sees a military personnel what they think about first is Soldiers.

You wey no go, no go know. Correction made, don't go and mistakenly call a soldier an Officer in front of his Commanding Officer or call an Officer a Soldier. You might not always be lucky.
