I intend to move to toronto next year, heard there are a lot of jobs, good homes but expensive etc. I am a little wirried about the whole change and need some guidance here

Hello guys,i'm due to arrive Canada(Toronto) by January ending/early February.I'm also just registering with CanPrep for assitance in my job prep and search.I'm choosing Toronto because of its opportunities especially in financial services which i hope to work in.However,i'm trying to get accomodation either in Toronto or its outskirts-Missisiauga,Brampton etc most prefarably a spare room going for between $450-600 per month.Does anyone here have any contacts that can offer me such?Regards

Yeah too much doubts are being sowed in people's hearts recently regarding relocating to N.America and I see the amount of energy being expended on the issue. With more people sharing their experiences people can tell facts from fiction.

You may find it interesting that repeated reference being made to a God who may or may not be another listener/reader's God within a discussion that isn't religious in it's subject matter and in which the listener/reader has not expressed a desire to discuss religion, actually comes across as being religiously intolerant.

well, today Calgary began it's journey of being buried under the white stuff. Lol!

Let me kuku share my testimony even though it is incomplete. without God i am nothing so i can't but give Him all the honour.

I intend to write a book on my life experiences to encourage those who may have gone through rough and tough situations in life.

I will start from where it concerns this house as my testimony cant be shared in a day.


Before i came here i did series of prayers and a lot of prophesies were released concerning my relocation which included that i was going to get a very good job. When i got here i was applying hoping to get the good job but nothing was forth coming. Someone here introduced me to one of these part time jobs but because of my conviction that i was going to get a good job, i didnt consider it. My landlady tried to convince me to pick up any job while i wait for my "good job" but i would hear none of such suggestion. so tey we go church the guest minister used Joseph's story to reset my brain. She narrated how Joseph was told in the dream that he would be great but he didnt see it happen until he went as far as being a prisoner.

The next day being monday i called the agency that i wanted the job and started on a Tuesday. My people i never experience the kain pain wey i experience doing that job. You know coming from a background of armchair banking to that kain job by the second day i broke down. That night i cried like i have never and asked God a lot of questions. i just poured out my heart to God.

The next day naso i dress go work, As i got to where i normally catch my last bus to work, instead of waiting inside the hall until the time for me to resume at work was near as i have been doing since the last 2 days something just prompted me to go and enter the next bus and wait in the office. As i stepped out of the meadowville town centre i noticed one young filipino boy sitting in their bus shed smiling at me naso i smile back. Immediately he walked up to me and asked me if i mind his talking to me, i told him i dont mind. The next thing he said was God said i should tell you that He loves you. I turned to him and asked him if this is how evangelism is done in this country. He replied that he was not evangelizing. That he was to catch an earlier bus but the Holy Spirit said he should wait and that He is sending a lady to him whom He will give him a word for. At that point i remembered my prayers the night before and started crying. The boy was embarrassed and was like is everything okay with you? Do you need money? are you sick? Do you need prayers? I now told him how back home series of prophesies were released about what God was going to do for me and how i started one kain job 3 days ago. After narrating my experience, he prayed for me and as he was praying, he repeated the same prophesies i got back home. We eventually entered the same bus and dropped off at the same place because we found out that his office is behind my office. He got to know where i work and i found out that his brother is my supervisor. Naso later on, the man(my supervisor) wey dey hound me on my first day at work for being slow was apologising for not putting us through on the job before posting us.

one of his brothers working with me came to confirm my name some days later. During one of our break i had to ask why he asked for my name. he said his brother narrated his experience at meadowville town centre to him and that God has never spoken to him so clearly like that before. he sha said they intend to go back to their country to set up a mission field.

This experience gave me confidence that God knows about my situation and that He will do it in His time. Infact after that thing happened, if i work small i go just smile and say to myself "God loves me". As i am typing this i have even been relieved of the job as our contract ended on Friday. See as the thing pain me like say person die. It took my landlady encouraging me to reset my brain. Job wey i no wan pick before.

what prompted me to share this is the guy that said that everyone is rooting for my success and i replied that God's name is at stake on top my matter self.

Just be rest assured that He did not bring us this far to abandon us. He will settle us in His time not ours. And not the same time with others.

i was responding to the comment that said sumn about "i thought being in Canada will make you more tolerant etc etc etc" in my opinion, that perception is quite incorrect. Religious tolerance is a spectrum and is never one sided. What you see as tolerant to another is not. Same way people should "feel free" to express themselves and their gratitude to their God is the same way another should "feel free" to express their aversion to such an expression. So it goes both ways babe.

I am a Christian but I find it mind boggling when my fellow Nigerian Christians always shove it up the next person's nose. No offense intended to anyone and @freeradical this isn't really about your post as it was quite informative, but most of the time, we tend to bury useful info and experiences under "all thanks to the mighty God etc etc" Any health professional on here would easily tell you how many "testimonies of after the doctor said xyz, praise God yadi yadi yadah I am healed" Nigerian patients give but they eliminate ALL that they did medically and thus give a false impression that others with similar conditions buy into and end up worse off for it.

Your "canadian story" is gonna turn out intriguing in the end. I know it's not all rosy right now but you have a positive spirit and you are willing and able to work. Those attributes are sooooo key to success. Remain hopeful!

Yes. I was sending almost 10 applications everyday and with my experience I felt I wasn't getting as much interviews as I should.

So Reddit was a "what do I have to loose" moment.

I also did a Skype interview for a recruiter for a job in New Brunswick. Guess how I got the opportunity,.....LinkedIn. Dude head hunted me from LinkedIn. So my people you may all want to arrange your LinkedIn profiles Canada style (skill and achievements based) cos you never know.

PS my current boss has been my network connection on LinkedIn. I added him even before landing and have been sending him a couple of mails. The guy already has taken a liking to me because he says he admires my persistence and determination to advance my career in Canada.

In my opinion and experience, I find that lots of people don't even know about services or programs available. They tend to rely a lot on what someone else has said or heard or experienced. If you are inquisitive, good at online research, asking people questions and don't mind making random phone calls here and there you'll be able to get info on what may be accessible in your city or province.

Maybe I should explain myself better. The gov't of Canada is bringing people (usually young) in for a reason. That is to get in the labor market which is seeing a massive influx of retirement. Furthermore, the taxes these new young immigrants are paying, will help pay the pension/benefits owned to these retirees. In short, immigrants are brought here to pay taxes and contribute to the economy, while if you're an immigrant from let say naija, you don't mind that since your quality of life and prosperity has improved significantly. It's a win/win situation for both parties. So my point is, the federal gov't does not want people to be at home sitting down doing nothing. They want newcomers to be like freeradical if possible. That is to have a job and be self sufficient within a month after arrival. Freeradical is now an official tax payer. That's what they want.

To make this possible the government has spent millions on tools to help integrate newcomers. These services are free. For example you have social workers that help you make resumes. Access to free computer, internet, printing, etc to print your resumes. They may also have knowledge of where and when a job fair will be taken place, and so forth. They usually have inside info a newcomer wouldn't. Whatever questions you have they'll help you. And if they can't help you, they'll direct you to the person,agency, or department which can. Freeradical said: "So, we decided to join a couple of newcomer services notably- WCI (welcome centre for Immigrants) and ERIEC." I would suggest Freeradical to post the information for these newcomer services. If someone is not landing in Edmonton, I'm sure if they call these services, and they can give them the number to whichever city they'll be landing in. Personally if I'm a new immigrant, after I land and get my essential documents like SIN number, health card, etc, I'm going straight to these centers. I would suggest if anyone knows of any other integration agencies to post them as well.

That escalated quickly. This religion thing must really be a soft spot for you. Pray tell, is this the attitude your god approves of? I mean, after all what then was the point of your post? I'm pretty sure I have zero artistic attributes so drama is more your thing and not mine. It'll be nice of you to point out "my rude person" statements though but I'm sure the ants in your pants won't permit that.
