Lol..
How do we know that it is true that U have not guessed wrong? U have to be here in this thread long enough.

I don’t care where the coaches are from, as long as they are not angels voting.

Before some of you joined NL not to talk of starting this thread, some of us have been discussing this issue of APOTY every year.

I took part in every NL thread on APOTY in the last 10 years!

And before I discovered NL in 2007, I have been actively been discussing APOTY award since 1998, offline.

When it comes to Nigerian football, only very few folks here are as passionate as I am.

This is just being realistic, no Nigerian has deserved APOTY and not given.

The nearest was JJ vs Hadji in 1998 and JJ vs Eto'o in 2004, but still Hadji and Eto'o had a slight edge in the 2 years.

There is also a school of thought that believes Ghana's Kuffour deserved the 1999 award ahead of our own Kanu. I don't agree with that but it is worth mentioning that even in some of those controversial periods favoured Nigeria.

The earlier we realize that no one is sitting somewhere denying Nigerian players any award, the better.

If you do very well and shut down the world of football like Eto'o, Drogba, Yaya, Aubameyang etc, no one will deny you any award.

Let's face it, what we have been producing in the last 15 years are just average players. Produce world beaters like Yaya, Drogba, Eto'o, Aubameyang etc and see if you will no win it.

I thought you said Obafemi Martins never did anything? grin

I only showed you that FIFA stuff to prove you wrong.

However, Martin's performance for 2004/2005 was better than Drogba and Essien combined yet he didn't make the top three. Why?

Drogba only scored 10 goals in the EPL that season and scored a total of 16 goals with just 6 assists yet he came second. Why?

Don't tell me he played for a bigger club than Martins because Inter Milan was a better club than Chelsea then, and don't tell me he won more trophies than Martins because Martins won both the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana.

Don't tell me Drogba won the league while Martins didn't win because Samuel Eto was crowned with APOTY award in 2003 and 2004 despite the fact that he just won Coppa del rey in 2002/2003 season and nothing with terrible middle table same Mallorca in 2003/2004 though he scored 22 goals..

What did Essien do than that season?

You are very funny.

Drogba that was the 10th best player in the world in 2005 was the player you want to compare with Martins?

Essien, the best player in French League and 22nd in the World for 2005?

You talked about FIFA stuff, but those 3 players got bigger recognition by FIFA, and you want the order to change in Africa?

What carryover? Must you be petty? obviously l wanted to give you benefit of doubt that you couldnt have compared any African player with 04/05 Eto. Especially not when Samuel was crowned 3rd best player in the world, the second African ever to make the podium.

I'm quite disappointed that you have people showing solidarity with you in a thread with an above average IQ .

The false sense of victimisation or prejudice against Nigerian players is quite worrisome, especially when you have supposed educated people sharing parochial thoughts like this.

Nigerian Duo React After Man City Debuts; Guardiola Hails Adarabioyo Again
For the first time in his managerial career, Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola handed minutes to three talented Nigerian players in his side's win on penalties against Leicester City in the League Cup on Tuesday night.

Central defender Tosin Adarabioyo impressed in a full shift for the Citizens, Lukas Nmecha came off the bench in the 88th minute and the two players were joined on the pitch by Tom Dele-Bashiru in the first minute of second-half stoppage time.

Lukas Nmecha and Tom Dele-Bashiru took to the social networks to express their joy at making their maiden appearances for the Citizens shortly after the game at the King Power Stadium.

Nmecha said : ''Great experience getting my debut today, the team and fans were fantastic! ''.

Dele-Bashiru added : ''What a great win! Also very humbled to make my professional debut''

Meanwhile, City coach Pep Guardiola was pleased with the performance of Tosin Adarabioyo, and told Manchester City's official website : ''Our young players played so well. Brahim (Diaz), Tosin (Adarabioyo) and Phil (Foden) played really well and I’m so happy.''

Manchester City's Nigerian contingent will discover their next opponents in the League Cup when the semi-final draw takes place on Wednesday night.

No doubt he was the best shooter out of the PG's u mentioned but that is not all being a "floor general" is about. Your primary duty is not to score but to get the team going. His MVP's were as a result of the Suns rampaging but they never even made an NBA finals. I am not trying to take away from Nash but u are making him sound like MJ or something.

Make no mistake about this, Nash was a proper floor general. The only downside in his game was the defense. Obviously his 6'2 frame is a disadvantage.
Also, as a PG your shooting ability counts a lot. Stephen curry is at a different level mainly because of his shooting.

By the way, I'm not hyping up Nash like that. I just had to highlight his abilities to show Icon79, Nash wasn't some pub player who fraudulently won the Mvp.

22 goals for Mallorca(a mid table team), but someone just argued if you do not play for top clubs only, you cannot win the APOTHY.
Again the question is...What are the criterias for winning APOTHY? why does it keep changing?

CAF award was introduced by a French magazine. Finito. Why do you think they gave it to Jean Managa Onguene ahead of Segun Odegbami in 1980 despite the fact that he helped Nigeria to win their first AFCON in 1980?
Only French won it before the main CAF award was introduced and unfortunately the other French President favoured his colonial colleagues.

French influence in CAF no get part two. Wetin you think say make Ikpeba win?

Yaya winning Apoty because he scored two goals does not hold water for me because Taye Taiwo also scored a goal in the finals that won Marseille their Coupe de la Ligue and he was the man of the match. Don't forget he scored a total of 5 goals from his difficult defensive duty that same 2010/2011 season Yaya toure won the award.

I beg to disagree with you on the reason for Nash's poor defense. It had to do with his footwork and athleticism and not his height. He payed in an era filled with very athletic point guards and he couldn't guard them. Besides, Chris Paul (a 6ft PG), has been nominated to the a NBA defensive team nine times while Sidney Moncrief (a 6'3 guard for the Milwaukee Bucks of the 80s) and Gary payton (a 6'4 gaurd for the Seattle Supersonics of the 90s) both won the Defensive payer of the year when they played. So i don't think his height was the reason for his poor defense

But i know he deserved both MVP awards. This is a guy who turned the fortunes of the Phoenix suns when he came from a 20+ win/season team to a play off team with 60+ wins in his first season and at least 55+ wins in subsequent seasons.

Yeah, but the majority still go for MJ. I meant this dude that prevented many greats from ever getting a championship ring; Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Charles Malone, John stockton, etc

Besides, MJ was the only guard to win regular season MVP, play off MVP, finals MVP and Defensive player of the year in the same season.nwow, talk about greatness. And remember, he was only 6'6

I take Magic because he was the best player in a much tougher era. We are talking about Larry Bird, The Bad Boys, Dr J, Dom Wilkins, Clyde the glide, The Dream and so much more.
With Magic the greatness was not with the numbers but the total package of wat he brings to a team. U can play him anywhere on the court and he would dominate all the same. He was very unselfish unlike MJ who ragged and beat teammates instead of helping to improve them.

How can you hold CAF responsible for awards awarded not by it but by an independent magazine?

You have been grabbing straws.

CAF started awarding early 90s. And from Nigerians dominated 1993 - 1999.

You mentioned French influence in FIFA and I showed you how no French connection stopped Kaka, Ronnie, Messi, CR7 from winning FIFA WPOTY, you brought another straw that they are South Americans (after killing your French connection argument). Lol

Guy, stop the petty victimization cry, if you performed very well, no connection anywhere will stop you from winning any award.

French has influence in FIFA to promote players from their league.

French influence in CAF no get part two. Wetin you think say make Ikpeba win?

However, Nigerian arrogant nature towards other African countries whenever they win has denied them the favour from them.

What did Seyedou. Keita do that same season?

Did he also score 2 goals in any finals?

CAF can deceive the mumus not me.

which country won the Afcon in 2002? Whih country reprssented Africa at the 2004 confederations cup and played up to the finals?

Was Osaze one the top scorers in the Epl with (a respectable )15 goals? Amir Zaki scored same number with Wigan and won the Afcon with Egypt in 2008, yet he didn't win.
Are Egyptians hated also across Africa?
My question is... Why was Eto given the award in 2003? Are you saying this was based on his past achievements?
