Guy I have shares in virtually all the companies listed on Nigerian stock exchange though may be small and I attend AGMs to get the contacts of those people who can give me useful information about companies performances, I take information serious in this business, as this is my first source of income.

Are you sure it is just information

I heard those who have shares (like 10 units or lower)in all listed companies and attend AGMs do so to get corporate gifts from the company. They also fight over food.

A plate of meal and drink with corporate gift has covered the cost of the small units these dudes have in the company.

If you are there for information, it is a good thing. Others are never there for such.

Bad guy. You still remember those guys for that WhatsApp group.

They will deliberately buy 100 units or thereabout in all the listed companies because of corporate gifts and at times do get money for transport fare.

They do rate companies based on the corporate gifts and not based on financial performance.

I once met a guy with 10 units of Nestle shares.

Companies with bad financial results usually give very good corporate gifts and transport allowance.

You will see investors with N2000 worth of shares, but they know that they will get corporate gifts and maybe transport allowance of a minimum of N5000. They are the shareholders who usually hold the company secretary to ransom. They usually dance to the tunes of these jobless shareholders because the company secretaries have something to hide.

Why do you think we have the proliferation of shareholders groups?

Less than 2% of shareholders attend AGM, a company with 20000 registered shareholders may have about 200 shareholders who will attend the AGM.

It is possible the company made a loss for the financial year, and N5 million was earmarked for AGM expenses banks spent up to N100 million.

The company which made a loss, may spend an average of N5000 each on the 200 shareholders present at the AGM making a total of N1 million.
Those who spoke shareholders who spoke well about management during the AGM may collect another 20k, big companies pay between 50k to 100k.

That is why most of the shareholders leaders don't care about the average retail investors. That was why Wale could do what he did with Oando for many.

SN is a shareholder leader who is selfish and I have never heard him criticized any company's management.

Shareholders activism is now a business, management pays these guys, some are given contracts, their children given jobs some are now being compensated with positions on the board.
