Myati: He's doing locum nau....Maybe he works as a RMO in NES and does NHS locums at 50 or 55pounds per hour, some people do more than the designated 20hrs/ week allowance....SO he has his 2,6k salary and extra 1,200pounds average after PAYE tax...and more if he exceeds 20hrs' week. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Falzdbadtguy: SO funny, some people mistaken being a doctor for being maybe a footballer or some big time job. Except you're a COnsultant with private practice, those are the doctors in my opinion swimming in money or Consultants in the USA. However, we coming from Nigeria. Even saving 1,000 pounds every month, coming from earning 400pounds per month salary in Nigeria is a big achievement! Infact, my village wants to send me the most beautiful girl to marry after they conduct a pageant this xmas. I have achieved so much to them, but here am just a black doctor who everybody is second-guessing if i'm competent enough. Anyway, let them keep second-guessing, as long as i'm getting paid 27 Likes |

The new goverment legislation IR35 has messed doctors and public officials up big time. Prior to the legislation, I know of locum doctors on £600+ per day but now all of them are on PAYE except Skilled consultants who can prove their exemption from IR35. Right now, a Doctor on £45,000 P.A will take home £2823 every month...public sector officials generally are really not smiling. |

UKmigrant: Lol.. I'm here and know a lot about the NHS paye scheme than you think . Oh I know about locum rates, extra shifts and others.. My analysis is based on a base salary of 38k. Your thread is interesting though. A different reality surfaces when you get a mortgage, have a vehicle, have a family etc... But it's a very good decision that you've started saving already and living below your means. (smart move I must say) 2 Likes |

Myati: You haven't factored in the fact that a lot of people in the medical sciences (doctors, pharmacists, nurses) work locum shifts in addition to the normal 37.5 hours a week standard job contract. The money earned from the locum is more than enough to live on without touching the wage from the day job. A medical professional who has no family responsibilities can easily choose to work 60-70 hours a week in a secluded village somewhere and earn good dosh. We are talking about middle level cadre medical professionals whose hourly pay rate ranges between £25-£100, saving £2000/month is nothing to someone ready to put in the hours. 4 Likes 2 Shares |
