Nigeria was one of the countries that supported the UN resolution, yesterday which condemned America's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. This fortunately non-binding resolution by the UN has clearly shows that the organization is pro-Palestine.
Nigeria should have abstained as did Benin & Cameroon, thereby protecting the country's strategic national Interest.
On this issue, the Foreign Affairs minister and the present administration got it wrong.
A vote for Israel would have been a Vote against violence and terrorism championed by PLO, Hezbollah and other radical arab elements

Here is a country breakdown of the General Assembly vote:
Member states that voted in favour of the resolution
A: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Angola, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan
B: Bahrain, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belarus, Belgium, Belize, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Burundi
C: Cabo Verde, Cambodia, Chad, Chile, China, Comoros, Congo, Costa Rica, Cote d'Ivoire, Cuba, Cyprus, Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), Denmark, Djibouti, Dominica
E: Ecuador, Egypt, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia
F: Finland, France
G: Gabon, Gambia, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Grenada, Guinea, Guyana
I: Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Italy
J: Japan, Jordan
K: Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan
L: Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg
M:Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Malta, Mauritania, Mauritius, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Mozambique
N: Namibia, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Norway
O: Oman
P: Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Portugal
Q: Qatar
R: Republic of Korea (South Korea), Russia
S: Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Somalia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria
T: Tajikistan, Thailand, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Tunisia, Turkey

Nigeria's vote and the so-called UN resolution are inconsequential- neither has a slightest effect on the new status of Jerusalem. God Bless Israel! Shalom Jerusalem!

The little I know about Foreign Relations tells me that a country's Foreign Policy and Actions should be premised on its Strategic National Interest, and this comprises but not limited to the following Economic, Security & Cultural.

Economically, Nigeria stand to gain more from with USA/Israel. Remember that US is the largest buyer of our Oil and one of our biggest Trading partner. We trade volume with USA is more than our trade volume with the Arab world put together. Consider the number of Nigerian working in USA and sending money home to support their family. Think of American imposing taxes on these remittances coming to Nigeria, then you begin to get the picture of what we stand to lose. Israel also supports Nigeria with cutting edge technology in our Agricultural sector.

On the Security front, is it not USA that is helping us to tackle our security challenges such as Boko Haram. Most of our senior military men receive trainings from US military institutions. our current President, PMB is a product of American War College. Israel also assist to train our security forces and provides logistics support to the Nigerian military. We can learn more from Israel in tackling terrorism as the country has been able to eliminate many terrorist leaders over the years.

More Nigerians school in USA than in the Arab world, and the certificates gained from such American institutions have an edge in the employment market.
You see, foreign policy is not a whimsical thing, but must be thoroughly thought out and delicately implemented. Nigeria should have abstained in that vote

let us not be sentimental about the whole issue, have you asked yourself why former presidents before Trump couldn't take this step since that's what the American people want..
how many of American strongest allies voted in favour of America..
in as much as I quite agree with trump at times, sometimes he makes awkward decisions... American is seen as the mediator in the crisis between Israel and Palestine, making this harshly decision makes it look as if they are siding Israel.

the threats Trump made is uncalled for, watched CNN and BBC, people were blaming me for trying to cajole countries to favor him.
although the UN resolution doesn't stop United states from rescinding in there decision.
the truth is America is loosing its strongest allies under president Trump. with what is happening in Korea peninsula, I never thought south Korea will go against US.

Though you said"let us not be sentimental about the whole issue", but the whole issue is about sentiments
The countries that voted for the resolution are only trying to be politically correct and hypocritical.
Some of them are Arab countries that will not grant citizenship to Palestinian refugees.
Libya is selling black Africans as slaves. India is fighting Pakistan over Kashmir, but both of them voted against Israel.
Spain is fighting against moves by Barcelona to be a separate country.
These are just few instances of the hypocrisy in the UN

this is not Trump's decision, it was voted by the members of the U.S. Congress back in 1995 90 to 0, but all the presidents sat on it and only used it to win elections by saying that they will sign it if they are voted for, but did nothing after winning, well except Trump , Trump is the only talk na do president I have ever seen in my life.

yeah, thats what the American people wanted not the world. other presidents know the sensitivity of it...

why did other world powers vote against Trump?
I quite admire Trump for his boldness and guts in trying to deliver all his election campaign promises not the dullard we have here. that's a story for another day!

I disagree. Nigeria's position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been fairly consistent since the 1973 Arab-Israeli war. Nigeria almost always follows the international consensus on the matter. Nigeria took the right decision
