Yes there is. Have a look at the Tier 1 exceptional talent visa. It has never been filled since the route opened some years ago mainly because people do not know about it and also because they think the requirements are a bit stringent but once you start, it's not that difficult.

Thanks man

I understand, leave that country if you know you can't change the system. We deserver better living... That is why I get disappointed when I see nairalanders brag themselves about Nigeria..

In Nigeria, you will see a fine house during the day but at night it is a ghost house.
In Nigeria, you will see people driving nice cars, but the road do not fit those nice cars...

You have said it all bro.. The system here favors just the rich.

It's practically impossible anywhere unless ofcourse they are not spending a dime of their salary which is again unlikely .

If a doctor in the NHS earns 38k, which is about 3100 gross per month. His total deductions per month including pension ( which btw is a lot in the NHS) would be about 1100 and this is me being generous by the way. He/she is left with 2k then comes the bills.. So pray tell how the hell are they saving 2k a month.

Man you're spot on. £2,000 in the UK is really peanuts moreso for a whole medical doctor.

FUNNY

We know Bugatti is better than mercedes
At least, when we no get moto, God elevated us to buy S class mercedes, Someone will now come and say Bugatti is better than mercedes.

At least, we no get moto b4....Just an analogy. Some of us, didn't necessarily hand pick coming to Uk from many options, we just took a chance. Mind you, some people in Nigeria have better lives than living in the USA. So, it's relative.

God dey sha, nice to try to have a different mentality after being born in Nigeria. Seeing a different way of life

He's doing locum nau....Maybe he works as a RMO in NES and does NHS locums at 50 or 55pounds per hour, some people do more than the designated 20hrs/ week allowance....SO he has his 2,6k salary and extra 1,200pounds average after PAYE tax...and more if he exceeds 20hrs' week.

SO funny, some people mistaken being a doctor for being maybe a footballer or some big time job.
Except you're a COnsultant with private practice, those are the doctors in my opinion swimming in money or Consultants in the USA. However, we coming from Nigeria. Even saving 1,000 pounds every month, coming from earning 400pounds per month salary in Nigeria is a big achievement! Infact, my village wants to send me the most beautiful girl to marry after they conduct a pageant this xmas.

I have achieved so much to them, but here am just a black doctor who everybody is second-guessing if i'm competent enough. Anyway, let them keep second-guessing, as long as i'm getting paid

The new goverment legislation IR35 has messed doctors and public officials up big time. Prior to the legislation, I know of locum doctors on £600+ per day but now all of them are on PAYE except Skilled consultants who can prove their exemption from IR35. Right now, a Doctor on £45,000 P.A will take home £2823 every month...public sector officials generally are really not smiling.

How far will £2000 pounds get you in London? Especially if you have a family, it's flipin' peanuts.

I went to see a doctor last week, I booked an appointment on the phone and saw the doc the same day. Before I left naija, I had a certain medical condition which I have not been able to get the right treatment for, for over 4 years because it is not available in the country.

The practice somewhat looks like a 5 star naija hotel, you check in yourself electronically as you're coming in and wait for your name to be displayed on the screen. Anyways sharp sharp the doc don order tests for me!

I didn't need to take any forms to the hospital they sent me for the tests. I just showed up and they asked for my date of birth and name and I was done in minutes.

I received a call the next day and was told my results!

I recieved a later yesterday that I have been booked to see a specialist in two weeks and I am being planned for that "special treatment". It is an expensive treatment that I wouldn't have to pay an extra dime for because I already paid £200 per year NHS health surchage when I applied for my migrant visa, this I learnt covers me for everything. They wrote various instructions on the letter they sent me on what I should do and should not do.

I was really impressed, but then I remembered that this is one of the reasons I moved to this country.

All those shouting America is better, Canada is this na you sabi. I don't have a job in America and I dont have business there except going on vacations. Move there if you like.

Make una pray for me make my treatment work!

You don't want to know how much people are earning here. There are things you wont find online. Your analysis is correct on paper, but in reality it's not!

Lol.. I'm here and know a lot about the NHS paye scheme than you think . Oh I know about locum rates, extra shifts and others.. My analysis is based on a base salary of 38k.

Your thread is interesting though. A different reality surfaces when you get a mortgage, have a vehicle, have a family etc... But it's a very good decision that you've started saving already and living below your means. (smart move I must say)

Hi everyone,

This thread is an eye opener for me. The argument on creditcard was informative.

I see a lot of diasporans (UK) here, so i thought to ask (no intent on derailing pls!).

Have 2 job offers presently; one in Eastbourne (east sussex) and the other in Redhill, Surrey. Please i'd like some information on both places in terms of cost of living etc

I'd appreciate any help, as i have a few days to finalize.
TIA.
Dash me one. grin

You haven't factored in the fact that a lot of people in the medical sciences (doctors, pharmacists, nurses) work locum shifts in addition to the normal 37.5 hours a week standard job contract. The money earned from the locum is more than enough to live on without touching the wage from the day job. A medical professional who has no family responsibilities can easily choose to work 60-70 hours a week in a secluded village somewhere and earn good dosh. We are talking about middle level cadre medical professionals whose hourly pay rate ranges between £25-£100, saving £2000/month is nothing to someone ready to put in the hours.
