POLITICS – Trending update as the Ogun government says it has paid the December and the 13th-month salary to its workers since Wednesday ahead of the festive period.
According to information the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Wale Osinowo, disclosed this while defending the ministry’s 2018 budget estimate before the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, in Abeokuta.
The commissioner said that this was despite the fact that the state government has yet to receive the last tranche of the Paris Club Refund.
He explained that the state government used the first tranche of the Paris Club Refund to pay the salary of its workers.
“On the Paris Club Refund, guidelines were set by the Federal government and the state government has been following it to the letter.

“When we got the second tranche, we used 75 per cent for settlement of salaries and deductions of workers while the remaining 25 per cent was used to execute projects.


“We are yet to receive the third tranche of the refund,” he said.
He added that the state government had also cleared the severance package of former political office holders at the state level.
The commissioner said that by the first quarter of 2018, the state government would clear the severance allowance of former local government political office holders.

“The amount to be paid between 2007-2011 is N540m while the amount between 2011 and 2015 stands at N560m which makes it just over N1.1bn to be paid as severance to the local government political office holders.

“Before the first quarter of 2018, we will ensure we settle the severance allowance,” he said.
He explained that the ministry had earmarked the sum of N5.2bn as its recurrent expenditure for 2018 while capital expenditure would gulp N200m.
Osinowo added that the 2018 budget of the state tagged “Budget of Accelerated Development” was workable and realistic.
Responding, House Committee Chairman on Finance, Olusola Bankole, said that the Finance ministry was important to the development of the state.
Other members of the committee advised the ministry to ensure the prompt release of money to Ministries, Departments and Agencies for better performance

people on ATM queue yesterday complained bitterly about the money they lodged into ecobank but doesn't reflect and also inability to withdraw using ecobank ATM.

I feel sorry for those using ecobank especially for this yelutide when they are suppose to spend and hold cash.

A teacher in Senior Secondary section of C.S.S. Luawii called me and asked if I have received December salary as Ecobank has not credited his account yet. I'm still amazed with the manner Ecobank paid December salary. I even confirmed from my source at Ministry of Finance today and he said that Rivers State Government has already released December salary to Zenith Bank since last week Tuesday as I earlier informed the house last week. He said that his wife who is an old civil servant working at the State Secretariat is also affected as her salary account is Ecobank. He said that the problem is not from the government but from Ecobank and I should have patience while the bank resolves it.
I have also contacted some newly employed teachers in Senior Secondary in Khana LGA and they stated that their salary account is Union Bank and that they have received December salary since last week Thursday. Maybe the Senior Secondary teachers in Khana LGA using Ecobank that you are referring to are old teachers.

Let me just say this cos it may help, I was inside ecobank today to ratify an issue that happened since last week though not salary. It was so clear that they Ve big network issue. so many were also asked to call the customers care number behind their ATM. And their language has been "we acknowledge that and working on it" So try find out if it's the banks network palava cos my money has been hanging since then.

access bank paid on Thursday last week. but they paid it in "Tranches"...Just like the Paris refund money. some got alerts in the morning between 9-10 am others for alerts by 8pm..... others didn't see SMS alerts. but confirmed their money on Friday, either via ATM or at the bank when withdrawing.
this EcoBank situation is however very unusual! it just reminds me of that Fidelity Bank payment during the biometrics. abeg o, those of una web dey use Eco, make una no borrow plenty money o, for flenjure especially! make una wait till them pay.
