My Inlaw who is an IT person and knows how crazy i was about ITSEC showed me a demo on how data is analysed using a dummy data from the product he markets in Nigeria and told me that i have to think about this field as it is emerging and there are opportunities in it. That did not disuade me from my ITSEC dream.

I had always wanted to do a masters in ITSEC but I am not sure anymore having been on ground and studied the market here. I am having a rethink.

The good thing is that you dont have to have an IT background to do well in this field. Finance, Statistics, Mathematics people are also in it. Once you have analytical skills, you are good to go. You also have to have presentation skills like powerpoint and be a super user of excel to thrive in this field.

My dear you are on course. Cloud everything has shaken up the labour market. People who refused to key into it were worst hit because they did not prepare for what was to come. Now companies outsource almost everything. You dont only have cloud computing now, you also have cloud accounting and cloud hr. Companies are focusing on their area of competence and outsourcing other units under the guise of clouding.

If you know your skill is being clouded , its good you know the companies offering such services and how relevant you can remain peradventure your job is outsourced to them.

Back to the discussion. Amazon has a large chunk of the cloud market being the first to launch into it so getting certified in their product is a good idea as you will not have difficulty getting a job(my 2 toro).

If you could share your experience on this so far I am sure many of us will appreciate.I have watched alot of YouTube videos on this but I feel getting figures from my fellow countrymen will be better. You can please state your province and family composition then state things such as:

Groceries, internet, ave monthly rent, utilities, childcare, phone bills, insurance etc. I know this varies from person to person but it will give us an idea of what to expect.

So we can adequately prepare.

Searched through the thread, didn't see much of these.

Oh my God. I was in a conference where the former VC of Covenant University did a presentation on this topic., i was so blown away. I hear they want to start with Lagos.

The CMM in Nigeria is 0 but here, i can give them a 4. There is still room for improvement here. Though that's why you can walk up to your bus stop 1 minute to the arrival of the bus and catch the bus. Smart city is a result of internet of things. A lot of handshaking going on. Thats why they can ticket you even if you run away.

Maybe I am not in the best position to contribute, but in the 19 days I have spent here, I can say I have never seen so many different cultures being so integrated. For all I have experienced, no one cares about your color or even your ascent(lol) so far you can be understood. Not only in workplaces but also on the street, in the bus, and so on.

I admire the fact that they plan on starting with Lagos but a lot needs to be on ground for it to work. A smart City needs IOT and IOE to work, IOT needs communication to work. Communication is the main connecting factor and as it stands Nigeria still lags way behind. They would get it some day but a total overhaul of the system is needed.

That said, one way is to try a micro smart city, then transit to medium then large. But knowing Nigerian management culture... One can only hope.

In my opinion No country is perfect. As long as different races mix, there would be racism. This is true for all countries in the world and not peculiar to Canada alone. Similar to when different tribes mix, there would be tribalism.

I was the only non caucasian person on site, but I didnt let that bother me. Someone else may see that as racist and report to HR. When I work in small towns, I also get an occasional curious stare when i go shopping or enter a restaurant.

In Saskatchewan, a friend's husband experienced racism. A patient refused his services and requested for another Physician. Some nurses also look down on the same doctor believing nothing good can come out of Africa. Okay, let say the cases above are in redneck provinces or small cities, but what of the reported cases in highly urban areas?

If you overcame tribalism in Nigeria, then you would overcome any racism or prejudice you might encounter in a developed country.

This question is kind of hard. I think recent landed migrant would be in the best position to answer the question. Once immigrants begin to integrate into the system, lifestyle would vary widely among them and figures would differ greatly.

I mean, it's fine if they don't want to sit beside me because I'm black as long as it doesn't turn to anything violent. They can keep standing.

Please note that for childcare it varies on family income as stated after filing tax. I pay 525 monthly with government subsidy . I also have a friend that just moved here and pays $0 cos she just started working. With child care it's important to note that there is always a wait list with govt subsidy so try as much as possible to get on the list asap. Cos I had to wait for 4 5 months to get approved.

Thank you so much, we are actually still trying to decide btw Calgary and Edmonton. Still doing research on the best one for Occupational health and safety jobs for hubby and HR jobs for me. We already have plans of each of us getting diplomas soon after we get there because we are both changing career paths entirely and we have no experience in those fields yet just certifications so far. He is a doctor here but e don tire .
