Good pm y'all... didn't get to know of this forum until recently... I've been to the embassy three times all to no avail... kindly read my transcripts , your extensive critic and correction is highly welcomed. Thanks First transcript Vo: when did you finish high school ? Me: 2013, July precisely Vo: what have you been doing ? Me: got a national diploma in science Laboratory Technology at yaba college of technology which I finished last December and I've been on industrial attachment. Vo: how many schools did you choose? Me: two schools... NE and FSU Vo: how did you choose these schools ? Me: (got off balance)... I applied online Vo: we have a lot of schools in the us, how did you narrow down to these two schools ? Me: I was antsy at this point and just said one gibberish.... Vo: you r ineligible ( angrily) ************* 2nd transcript Vo: why are you here? Me: ( with max confidence and cool eye contact) I gained admission into a united state university and I'll be needing you to approve my visa to enable my going. Vo: why are you going to the us ? Me: I'm going to the United States to obtain my bachelors degree in Biotechnology at Northeastern university for a period of 52 months which starts .... Vo: how many schools did you choose? Me: two schools, NEU and FSU Vo: how many admits ? Me: both Vo: why NE ? Me: I chose NE because it's affordable for my parent. Also because the university has a well structured curriculum in my field of study in that most of the courses I'll be taking ( I mentioned few) are research oriented. This will not only expose me to series of quality research but also make me proficient in the field Furthermore, NE is highly reputable in my field of study and ranked 5th in Biotechnology Vo: chuckles " all universities in the us have a well structure curriculum" Vo: how much is ur tuition ? Me: $12754 Vo: when did you start school ? Me: which of the schools ? Vo: elementary Me: smiles surprisingly ( wasn't expecting the question ) that's a long time Vo: is it in the 80s or 90s Me: '96 Vo: who's ur sponsor ? Me: my father, Professor Xyz Vo: what does he do? Me: he's a professor of Animal production and health management and also the Dean, college of animal science at xyz university , he also consults for the federal government on animal production in southwest Nigeria and he deals farm machineries Vo: chuckles mockingly Types for a while Sorry, I can't approve ur visa.... bla bla bla ******* Me: good morning ma ( speaking with max confidence and eloquence ) Vo: good morning, pass me your passport and I 20 Vo: where are you going in the us ? Me: Boston Ms , Northeastern university precisely Vo: I can see you will be studying... what will you be studying ? Me: Biotechnology Vo: why Biotechnology? Me: Biotechnology has been my dream and passion right from when I was a kid because as a growing kid, I was opportune to travel to the southern part of Nig and I experienced the pitiable oil spillage condition of the region. This triggered my interested in Biotechnology. Studying Biotechnology will expose me to strong research and adequate knowledge required to proffer a solution to this uninteresting situation. Vo: what's your highest level of education ? Me: National diploma at Yaba college of technology Vo: in Biotechnlogy ? Me: no ma, science Laboratory Technology Vo: okay... types for a while How many schools did you choose ? Me: two schools, Northeastern university and Florida state university Vo: why did you choose NE over FSU? Me: I chose NE over FSU because I'm interested in the ongoing research of professor William Hancock which is based on applying new analytical techniques to advance proteomics by developing an enzyme capable of degrading the chemical residue of petroleum production. I believe this research will greatly help me actualize my ultimate goal which is working together with research institutes to develop a solution to the oil spillage condition of the southern region of Nigeria. Vo: who's paying for ur studies ? Me: my father Vo: what does he do? Me: he's the Dean, College of Animal science at Xyz university, he also consults for the federal govt on animal production in southwest Nigeria, he's also into mechanized farming. Vo: what's the size of his farm Me: 2 ha Vo: what does he do on the farm ? Me: pardon me? ( she repeats) Poultry, Piggery and Goat Vo: types for a long time/ her system was hanging I'm sorry this is taking long... pls hold on Me: it's okay ma Vo: what did you say he does on the farm ? Me: poultry, piggery and Goat Vo: types again.... pls hold on Unfortunately your visa cannot be granted at this time Me: what can you advice ma ? Vo: kindly ensure there's a significant change in your application before coming back. 4 Likes |

Its always very rare for any company to sponsor their staffs for a degree abroad especially when you have not worked with them for so long or if its not one of this multinational companies. Also it seems VO wasn't convinced that you were passionate enough about that course from the the answers you gave. Also you didnt answer the why four years part, I guess you didnt see that coming. My thoughts though. All the best in your next interview Bro. Please refire quote author=HOLUVICTORY post=63484604]Dear All, My visa was delayed today by the tall white guy at window 9.(Appointment: 6:30am) Below is my transcript. V.O: Good morning sir, Your passport and I20 Me: Morning sir (while I passed the requested documents) V.O: which school are you going? Me: Southern Arkansas University V.O: For which course? Me: Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a (he cut in) V.O: which type of engineering? Me: Welding Engineering Technology V.O: Do you apply to any other school? Me: Yes V.O: Which? Me: Ferris State University V.O: Did they admit you? Me: Yes V.O: Why SAU? Me: As a student of SAU, I have the opportunity to participate in undergraduate research during my studies, combined with collaborative research on a national level, which includes summer programs at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in Berkeley California. And most of the courses I'll offer will be taught by engineering professors who have work experience in industries. V.O: Why going for four years degree in welding, why not a two years course or something? Me: The degree will equip me with the mathematics, science, and engineering education I need to competently function in the welding industry. V.O: Ok, can you weld? Me: No, but I supervise their work on site. V.O: Tell me about your job? Me: As an assistant site engineer, I supervise staff on site which includes the welders, I provide technical advice and solve technical issues on site (he cut in) V.O: How are you able to supervise welding when you can't weld? Me: Even though I don't know the nitty-gritty of welding, I do know the basics because I did my SIWES during my O.N.D in a welding company. (I was not this fluent anyway. I stammered while expressing myself) V.O: Ok, who is paying? Me: My company and my Uncle. V.O: Who owns your company? Me: I told him V.O: Who is he to you? Me: Employer V.O: You mean your employer is paying for this? Me: Partly, their sponsorship covers room and board, supplies and book expenses, while my Uncle will foot the remaining bills. V.O: (He said something about having network problem) Me: Alright, no problem. V.O: Are you married or single? Me: single V.O: Child? Me: No V.O: Sorry,..........................[/quote] 1 Like |

Solomon27:Don't shoot yourself in the Leg.you've already told the VO that you applied to the above schools. Those schools have already been recorded in their system. Telling him you applied to another will likely lead to a denial and you would have lost your trust at the Embassy. Try to honestly strengthen other aspects of your app.....hope this helps 2 Likes |

Seasons Greetings! Please, can anyone help with TOEFL materials? I am applying for a Doctoral program and the school insists I submit an English proficiency test - TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, CAE, CPE ....... (because I have not completed four consecutive semesters in the U.S). Likewise, which of the test would you likely recommend as I have about 28 days to prepare? I plan to write the exam immediately the new semester begins (before class work and other commitment sets in). Advice, tips, and materials would be highly appreciated. Thanks! |

teepee4Him:I would recommend you write TOEFL, its easy just like Waec English. You can write with 2weeks preparation and get >95. All you need to really practice for is the speaking section. Just go to youtube and download notefull Toefl speaking videos to practice and understand the speaking questions pattern. Additionally, download ETS official toefl guide to familiarize yourself with the other sections. Thats all you need, no big deal about Toefl. 3 Likes |

Pbst0887:Northeastern is very nice school, and I'm pretty confused as to what the problem is here; but I highly suspect that it is your sponsors profile. The profile really doesn't match the financial weight of the school. did you apply yourself or was it done by an agent?. Forget about application for now and restart the whole process next year, ,and preferably visit EducationUSA, they have a consulting session at the embassy for intending students. |

Ayat1209: Mama ejima (mom of twins), please you need a GRE to cover for applying to "one safe school". I understand you have a tight work schedule, but the VO won't understand that. They are sacrifices we make if we are serious on pursuing studies abroad. The VOs are doing their work. I will advice, never refire now. Defer till fall and prepare and sit for GRE. God bless you Ma and my regards to your twins and baby boy. 1 Like |
