KPOM! I sincerely believe that most coaches would've given him a chance after that monster performance in the AFCON. But I doubt if Borinho was even paying attention. Sometimes it's all about being at the right place and at the right time. O pari TheGoodJoe: 1 Like |

And talking about Mourinho, Terry Maguire just spoiled Borinho's Christmas with a last minute equalizer against a 10 man Leicester City! Man Utd now trails ManCity by 13 points! O pari |

Icon79: I am not arguing the fact that Messi makes everyone better but what I am against is you saying everybody else is poor. Messi's presence on the pitch did not help Pique's defensive abilities, like I said everything attackwise moves through Messi and that we cannot argue with, if you remove him the second goal and the third goal wouldn't happen but Barca has the best defensive record in the league, other players need to be appreciated. You can't draw a combined XI without Ter Stegen, Umtiti, Alba, Busquets and personally Paulinho so what's the fuss all about? 1 Like |

Let's agree that Barca, as a team, has generally improved both individually and collectively. Like I said on twitter during the game, Ernesto Velverde is gradually winning me over. Having said that, I have a load of issues with your potential combined Barca/Real first team. So are you telling me that you will start Ter Stegen ahead of Navas? Nah, I don't think so. And how in the world could you select Jordi Alba ahead of Marcelo? Are you freaking me??!! And who would Umtiti replace at the CB? Is it Sergio Ramos or Varane? Oh please! Sergio Busquets? Personally, I would prefer Casemiro but I can give you that ... so let's say arguably Paulinho?? Oh please, don't make me laugh. Who is he gonna replace Kroos? Modric? Ascencio? Isco? Bottom line, only Messi and arguably Busquets would make that team. O pari Mickael2: |

tbaba1234:yeah every analogy breaks down at some point but the thrust of my post is that no matter the history of a team once they arrive at major tournies one has to deal with what they arrive with. thats why i think that argentina's struggles to qualify should not be used in dismissing them because once the WC starts one will have to deal with them at that level. 2 Likes |

safarigirl:i often write from an informed background and not just because i want to write. first, i remember watching analysis of our WC group by pundits on tv just immediately after the draws and right there one of the commentators in his first comments about iceland played some really good history teacher and mentioned the Vikings. And then this evening i read on FIFA.com 'five reasons why Iceland can shock the world' and right there again the vikings were mentioned and that's where i lifted the quote i posted. the viking chant is considered an aspect of the team so much so that special emphasis is laid on it as can be seen in videos on youtube which i watched before making that posts. whether its the word Vikings that nettles some i dont know but go beyond the word. its a metaphor that speaks about their history and the truth is every team will come to the tournament with a flavor of their national character. i just watched a Gary Lineker documentary about brazil and they talked about brazil playing football like they play samba and sure only a brazilian like ronaldinho could have done some little salsa on the ball before scoring a goal. not many know that Maradona's infamous 'hand of god' goal was an aspect of argentinian culture on display which considered such sleek cheating as an artform. so while the plain englishmen were appalled at such a gross unsporting display, argentines hailed maradonna for displaying what to them is some fine sense the point is not where Iceland have been all this while. the point is this is the mentality they will bring to the stage now that they have arrived. it doesnt matter how long you stay away from this thread- anytime you come you going to bring the essence of your personality into your posts, your view points and anaylsis. so we should look at our opponent with a fuller eye and i think one of the monikers here commended rohr for being the first coach to analyse things from a pyschological, cultural, geographic and tactical angle. for one thing its even more interesting to do so. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Listen, Navas gets a bad rap but he's a top top quality goalkeeper. he has saved Real Madrid's brushes more than a few times but the fans always pick on him because their mind is fully set on De Gea. That's what happens when management undermines you by consistently talking about another goalkeeper. Umtiti has definitely improved but to call him the best defender in the league is taking too far. He's still get beaten too easily on a one by one duel for my liking. Personally, I will pick either Sergio Ramos and Varane ahead of him O pari SerVik: 1 Like |

whether this is a realistic appraisal of our team( which i feel it is not) or hubris speaking i'd love for us to shove some sand into this coach's mouth when we meet them. Croatian Coach On Nigeria : Iwobi & Moses Too Similar, No World-Class Players Published: December 23, 2017 Croatian Coach On Nigeria : Iwobi & Moses Too Similar, No World-Class PlayersCroatian manager Tomislav Obradovic has predicted that Croatia will overcome Nigeria when both teams face off in the World Cup on Kaliningrad Stadium, Kaliningrad on June 16, and has stressed that there are several players with the same characteristics in the Super Eagles squad. Obradovic was coach of the Rwandan U20 National Team for two and a half years, and he almost qualified the country for the 2009 Fifa U20 World Cup. Asked to compare Nigeria's offensive players Iwobi and Chelsea's Victor Moses, Obradovic told Sportske Novosti: ''Compare all of them with their characteristics? Everyone is similar and quick, good within a group. But where are the world-class players? ''It's probably quite enough, but as a team I do not think they have world-class quality. Why do I say that? They have too many players with the same characteristics. ''They can not beat Croatia. Not in one segment of the game. Neither technical, tactical, nor organizational, nor in any sense. '' Tomislav Obradovic warned the Croatian team that Nigeria's counter attack can be dangerous because they have fast players. ''The only way they can outsmart us is if they threaten us from the counterattack because they have such players, quick, fast. ''We have to hold the ball, wait and play our organized football because we are better, disciplined, stronger on the ball, better one on one '' Igho Kingsley Source: Allnigeriansoccer.com |

Icon79:One question, if Ramos and varane are better than umtiti and Pique, and navas is better than ter Stegan, then why has Barca conceded just 7 goals and kept 11 clean sheets while Madrid are busy conceding very basic goals? Navas is so good yet Madrid is tapping up the bilbao goalie. Top 5 goalies in Europe in no particular order. Buffon Neuer De gea Oblak Ter stegan No way navas is better than ter Stegan. I would love to engage you on this but I wouldn't like to derail the thread. If you wish to continue, come to the Barca thread. 1 Like |

Bros, that's a very simplistic explanation you've just offered up there! There are way too many things that go into the game than just the quality of the players selected. That's why it's called A TEAM and not a collection of players. O pari SerVik: |
