It is baillys absence that has caused Phil jones to start to regress. Age has nothing to do with talent! Bailly is our best defender at united bar none! It is not his business that his seniors in the team have decided to remain as otondos for the foreseeable future! What did jones and co learn from vidic and rio? Who is stopping them from still being leaders even under a pragmatic coach like jose who improves defenders?

And Smalling going for a tackle would not have been in anyway _stupid....no one is saying he should have gone in 2 footed but at least try and shunt the guy wide or even from struggling to get a foot in rather than joining him in waiting for his teammate to come and collect the ball and score? Was his wife's picture on that ball?

I think I have come to realize Jose's way doesn't suit young players. Seems dude cannot improve young players especially attackers.

Look the season is beginning to take on the shape of a "second place in the league season" even though a lot can still occur between now and may so as from january I actually think he should be looking to blood some new players who may also use the next 6 months to adapt to the league while also improving our all round game with fresh ideas! Allow angel gomes play the 10 role....allow mactominay more game time...get ryan in at LB...recall perreira....try again for perisic, ozil etc....promote another CB and show smalling his time is up! At least the fact that players would be getting penalized for poor performances would ensure the rest sit up and would also make the new guys grab their opportunities with both hands! The squad is stagnating a bit for now!

Mata is wasting on the Wing. He's not a Winger, he has no speed to cover the Position. Lukaku keeps spending more time off the 18 yard Box. He's needed in the Team as a Striker for God's Sake! He's signed to bang Goals not creating.

It might be the instruction. Smalling was also caught in opposition's half tracking same Vardy. He was able to foul him though, but Jones couldn't close down Vardy before he passed the ball. The Skysports analyst didn’t blame Jones for being high up the field, but for not marrying Vardy earlier.

But in my opinion, the center backs have no business following a striker down to his own third. However, Lindelof could have helped out. These are some of the things Valencia does extraordinarily that look normal.

It is just an incident that could have happened to anyone. Jones has partnered different players successfully, like the great partnership with Rojo last season. It is not Bailly that makes him to stay at center back.
Personally, I believe more in zonal marking in open play than man marking. The center back should stick together while midfielders take care of activities in the midfield irrespective of the player there.
