I want to assume the thought in the SE is not same as what we have on this thread
Rather than limit our vision to this WC we should have a long term plan to build a formidable senior national team that can compete with any other team.
Our SE has been unstable over years in terms of development. The WC should be seen as a stage to expose our players and build on experience gained but as our usual way of running our football an early ouster from the WC will be greeted with sack without plan to develop our football.
England is a very good example to learn from instead of begging players to play for us few months to the WC.
i think the nff has signed a contract that extends beyond the wc with rohr. so regardless of the outcome at the wc rohr will still continue to be in charge although i pray we have a good outing at the wc.

Those two has registered their name very well in the team. Besides Ebuehi has always been there, just that he wasn't given enough time to prove himself. When the opportunity came by, he proved everyone that underated him wrong.

who dem beg?

And what is the success rate of England that anybody should learn from them? Instead of you to mention reasonable countries like Germany and France, it is the perennial underachievers that someone should learn from?
yeah they've under-performed so consistently over the years but this year has really been a good year for England. since 1966 they've not won anything not even at the youth level but all that changed this year. they won four youth tournaments including the world under 20 and 17 and that wasn't accidental; they've made huge investments at the national football center at St.George's park. so perhaps in the next few years they might do something noteworthy at the senior level. remember that Spain were perennial underachievers before the burst of glory that lasted from 2008-2014 as a result of well structured youth systems in place and even after the shocking group stage ouster in Brazil they have quickly rebuilt their team and are on the ascendancy again. same thing Germany did after the WC in 2006 and they reaped the fruit in 2014 and are in strong contention to retain the title in Russia. even Nigeria is towing that path even if in a haphazard sort of way cos the current super eagles team is dominated by the Manu under 17 and 20 boys. the just concluded nff/zenith bank future super eagles tourney is commendable. we just have to plan and not leave this things to chance.

wallai i read both like i read bible. in fact all the mythologies of the ancient world was my playground but the greek/roman mythology was the bomb.

Underachievers you called them?
1. We are busy begging their players to choose 9ja over them
2. They won U17 and U20 same year with boys of true ages unlike our boys with questionable ages
3. Be patient you will soon know these guys have plans unlike us
oh. It took them over 40 years to have plans? Let us see how far they go before telling anyone to understudy them

Nobody is begging anybody, people are only advising the players to have sense before they use their career for Baba Ijebu grin

Ati boys of 'true ages unlike us'....let me not even indulge you with that point

haaaaa!greek mythology. had a book when i was in primary school about greek legends and myths and arabian nights. how i loved that book. elder sister hid it once. i cried like i was bereaved until i found the book. prosepina, pandora's box, the legend of icarus, pygmalion, the story about king midas, zeus, bacchus, the seven journeys of sinbad, aladdin, the wonderful lamp and ali baba and the forty thieves.

while writing i tried to find a national mythological theme that could perhaps resonate with our players but i couldnt recall any. Queen amina of zaria came to mind but i doubt if it would connect with the team. she was a fearless warrior.
Queen Amínä may resonate with the Super Falcons, but not the Super Eagles

I can't think of any great Nigerian mythological characters if any....don't even know if there are origin stories for gods like IFA, Amadioha and Sango

I read one about Osun though, a goddess. Funny enough, saw it in a story by an American

what of mai idris alooma or ogedengbe of ilesa, queen idia is a good one too. due to the nature of our nationhood you would hardly find any that would resonate across the nation.

Of course, he is. He would be one of our key players in the Russia. You know, it's too easy to overlook Ndidi's contribution a game because he's not flashy like Mahrez but he's the engine room of any the team. Bottom line, if you're a purist like us, you'd need to watch Ndidi to see the whole game. Players of quality are rare ... right now, I can only think of: Casemiro (Real Madrid); Sergio Busquests (Barcelona); Fernandinho(ManCity); Michael Carrick and Matic (Man Utd).

O pari

Roman gods have been romanticized.

There are backstories/myths to Amadioha, Sango etc... just not as romanticized.

Nice.
Did you make the video?
I like the way Shehu Dikko thinks and I wish we had more leaders like him. If he is good enough for the Super Eagles why put him in any of the youth teams? More importantly, I'm glad someone listened to Shehu Dikko.
Hope to see more of this young man.

Tosin has played in the UEFA Champions league and the Carling cup.

From what I saw he is very very good.

Been watching him for over 6 years he's good but until he plays regularly for City or goes on loan he is essentially untested.

I rate him much lower than Iorfa.

we have inspiring stories ooo. there's gandoki, also very interesting stories from ancient benin kingdom too but they are hardly national in character. the spoiler is that many of our stories are tainted with fetishism.

Croatian Coach On Nigeria : Iwobi & Moses Too Similar, No World-Class Players
Published: December 23, 2017
Croatian Coach On Nigeria : Iwobi & Moses Too Similar, No World-Class PlayersCroatian manager Tomislav Obradovic has predicted that Croatia will overcome Nigeria when both teams face off in the World Cup on Kaliningrad Stadium, Kaliningrad on June 16, and has stressed that there are several players with the same characteristics in the Super Eagles squad.

Obradovic was coach of the Rwandan U20 National Team for two and a half years, and he almost qualified the country for the 2009 Fifa U20 World Cup.

Asked to compare Nigeria's offensive players Iwobi and Chelsea's Victor Moses, Obradovic told Sportske Novosti: ''Compare all of them with their characteristics? Everyone is similar and quick, good within a group. But where are the world-class players?

''It's probably quite enough, but as a team I do not think they have world-class quality. Why do I say that? They have too many players with the same characteristics.

''They can not beat Croatia. Not in one segment of the game. Neither technical, tactical, nor organizational, nor in any sense. ''

Tomislav Obradovic warned the Croatian team that Nigeria's counter attack can be dangerous because they have fast players.

''The only way they can outsmart us is if they threaten us from the counterattack because they have such players, quick, fast.

''We have to hold the ball, wait and play our organized football because we are better, disciplined, stronger on the ball, better one on one ''

Igho Kingsley

I am sorry for this guy. I was just laughing at the ''all our players are similar'' comment. He will know who the Super Eagles are when we play them in June.

it did. involved lots of sacrifices to the gods on mount olympus, reading of auguries and entrails of birds in short divination in the mystery cults and the temple at delphi. But its all a matter of perception: a thing might be true but it can be perceived as false. someone reading what i just wrote agreeing with you that greek mythology involved fetishism might still not perceive it as such but when i say our myths involved fetishism it would immediately resonate in their minds; thoughts of juju and babalawo would possibly float across their minds. its perception.

for example many people are hardly aware that the nations of europe were once steeped in idolatory and are in fact going back to their pagan past and thats why festivals like halloween are becoming mainstream. but we are all too aware about our own pagan past.

It is simple, these stories have been romanticized for modern public consumption but they are still steeped in Idolatory.

In the centuries of brutal colonialism, Africans were told that they had no history and no civilization. The mental slavery still exists today. People actually believe in their hearts that a white man is better than them. The Benin wall according to some historical records was longer than the wall of China in the 16/17th century. We had books of scholarship in Timbuktu, Mali, black people built in pyramids in Egypt and Sudan. Today, the treasures of the Benin kingdom are still in European Museums.

Africans have not told their stories, they have not looked within for solutions. Several of our problems can be resolved by looking within. We can not keep looking for aid money that is designed to help European and American contractors.

The same thing goes for our football. A holistic approach is needed to revamp our football and make its model for Africa. The talent is there. We need to take bold steps to change things.

But bro, don't you think that recently, Cahill has been making too many mistakes in the heart of Chelsea's defense

And Omeruo might actually perform better given a chance?

What gets you noticed is continous top class performances, that is the consistency vthat creates top quality.

Omeruo has had good games for Nigeria but I wouldn't call him exceptional.

He has played in the Championship, the Eredivisie and now the Turkish league. He has not been a stand out exceptional player in those leagues.

And you think he can just jump to Chelsea and perform. I like your optimism.

your are so right. the solutions to our problems must be home grown and while not trying o simplify our problems solving them be easy because we have the whole world to pick inspiration from. regarding our football do we even have a distinctive Nigerian football philosophy?i read in that fifa article that one distinct feature of the Iceland team is that the coach visits fans in the pubs and explains and discusses tactics with them.

If we do not improve our economy and actually be reckoned with our stories wont sell either here or outside. if we are at pace with the rest of the world no one needs to be convinced that we are all equals, it will be glaringly apparent.
Our christian nd islamic beliefs has made everything associated with our herioc past a no go area for us. Of all our past heros or mythological past i think Sango is the one that would probably cut across, its well known here and also outside the shores of Nigeria, mortal xombat even has a shango character. And as god of thunder, thats a fearsome character and it has a staff like thors mijr hammer
