I thought my own OTA updates have been different ni. I hope he can tell us exactly what the issue was so that we can add it to the archive of supports. Other things being equal, It's extremely difficult, if not impossible, for OTA update to brick a xiaomi sd device when it's not Umidigi . It can brick mtk that has a global rom on it. Xiaomi mtk devices running Chinese rom are as good as sd ones. But what do I know

You can install updates but will immediately lose root privilege. The only way not to lose root privilege is to be flashing the updates through your custom recovery, that means you'll always need to backup your data, and download the full roms of over 1 gig each time you want to update.
