The way to make it easier for yourself is to make sure you dont drive. join the train/bus. The public transport system is so good that you dont need to drive. I loved that bolded part. Let me start my search on Mississauga and those other cities near Toronto. Hopefully that daily commute doesn't become a serious burden, if you're spending 3 hours in transit to and fro work, it may not be worth it in the end.

Toronto is to Canada what Lagos is to Nigeria. I know a lot of accountants working outside Lagos. The same applies to Toronto. primeson1:
Thanks for this analysis. Does it mean that as an accountant, one can't get job outside Ontario or it would be nearly impossible. For me I prefer to work as an accountant in a company than working in a firm of Accountants or bank even in Nigeria.
Just want to clear that aspect please. How easy is it to get jobs in a company outside Ontario - the financial hub.
I would research on this Mississauga and other suburbs. 2 Likes |

@mummyjaygirls welcome. I couldn't help but laugh your post was interesting. Your kids would absolutely love this weather lol! No documentation needed to start driving. You can use your naija license for the next 90 days to drive or register a vehicle if you buy one. The insurance will only be slightly higher registering with a naija license. @canadianfly it's my first Canadian winter oh. It's so unlike winter anywhere else. I'm adapting though. @yetty we have waitlists for daycare here but for subsidy there are no waitlists. @ having daycare free in Toronto wow! In Alberta there are maximum monthly amounts possible based on your income. So for instance for a licensed dayhome for infants it's a max of $520/mth and for toddlers $437/mth, grades 1-6 $310/mth. Maximum amounts are paid to low income families and it reduces as your income increases. @ qualifying and applying for child care subsidy. If you AND your spouse are both schooling or both working or one partner is working and the other schooling, you qualify for child care subsidy in Alberta. Also if you are a stay at home parent you qualify for child care subsidy but only $100/mth. You apply by contacting the government office in charge of subsidy. 8 Likes 6 Shares |

All our bags were 30kg except 1 which was 20kg cos customs removed my palm oil (nonsense) my palm kernel and coconut oil made it thru, (maybe cos they were in smaller bottles)
Flight was on time, children were excited to be moving to a country with snow and made out plans of how they would play in d snow (too much cartoon) lol. Inflight entertainment was ok, food (rice) was saltless but we chop am like that, before hunger go kill purzon above sea level.
We got to Ethiopia on time, waited like for 2-3 hours before proceeding to Dublin (they changed crew and some other “minene” we didn’t leave d plane) after like 40 minutes we were off again to Toronto, got there in good time but the queue at d airport for all d registration (stamping of copr and getting of sin) made us miss our connecting flight to Edmonton but we were fixed for the next one and the attendant was nice to check in all our hand luggages (free at last)
Flight from Toronto to Edmonton is 4-5 hours inside one country. I had read someone’s post somewhere where he/she said no free food on air Canada so I wasn’t expecting anything as I no get money to buy, I positioned myself well to sleep then someone tapped me and asked what I’d like to eat, first thing I said was I don’t want to buy, (I no Dey for gbese o) then she said, your ticket comes with a meal, o boy see as I asked for big sandwich, hehehe.
We got to Toronto, went to baggage pickup and only 4 made the trip with us, we went to complain and our details was taken and told they would give us a call when they arrive, all bags came in later that night.
I noticed one of my bags had been opened and a nylon containing detergent was torn open, I guess they thought it was hard drugs (so those of u planning to transport those things be careful o, dem go catch u)
We arrived the day snow decided to start falling again. As at today it’s -29
We got home to already cooked food, yippie!!!
All in all the journey was ok, the children behaved themselves especially my 2 year old that I was really concerned about.
This is the end of my story, thank you.

Why would anyone travel with detergent?! Just curious.... Lmao. Well to be honest, I would too. The detergent in Canada are mostly in liquid form in gallons and they don't foam like Naija Ariel Also except you're using brands like Oxy, the stain remover ability of some of their detergents is very poor. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Hi,
I am still an Affiliate of ACCA, passed exams in Aug 2015 so i have till Aug 2018 before I can become a full member ( 3 years).
Right now ACCA has delisted me as I didn't pay subscription this year. I intend paying next year to coincide with my full membership status.
My AOR is dec4, what do you advise I do? Should I wait till i land in canada before beginning the conversion process or can an afilliate status suffice? You must retain your ACCA membership to be able to apply to the CPA. After becoming a CPA you have to continue being a member ACCA. Good thing is most companies pay your CPA annual membership fee. 3 Likes |

This is one of the most painful comments I've ever read here, I read on the sister thread that WES Canada is no longer evaluating ICAN positively, now this!! It is not almost o, you are starting from scratch and that hurts. I really hope there is a mixup somewhere because I have read of people with ICAN who only had to start from the Capstone 1 module, which is fair IMO. Experienced folks should please weigh in. Yes I know someone who started from capstone but he was among the first people that they evaluated. Just 2 months after his evaluation, they changed it to core 1. 1 Like |

Hello fam,
I noticed most people have been talking about ACCA and ICAN, but havent seen anything on CFA.
Does it mean that CFA is not recognized in Canada?
If yes, what needs to be done in order to increase hubby's chances of getting a job?
Please note that he's not done yet but would like to complete it before we eventually leave Nigeria.

Hehehhe nice experience ma, well in case you want to use transit next time, check online e.g edmontontransit or Calgarytransit you will see the stops and like 4 or 5 digits on where to stop and if you get to the bustop you will see that same number written on it. In Marlborough NE calgary they have 2 bus 23 each on the opposite side of the road,I went to the final station in saddletown while heading to work trust me it wasn't funny Welcome to canny 14 Likes 16 Shares |
