Most impoverished nations rely on exporting agric produces while developed nations export industrialized products. Cocoa farmers in Ivory Coast are so poor, yet the companies abroad that buy their cocoa and turn it to chocolate and other products make a fortune. Do the maths... Stop living in an illusion.

okay sir.

God forbid, i dont have a date with poverty. Besides we have reared rabbits in the past. All this backyard farming u guys do and deceive urselves with thinking its a sustainable source of income. May God help us in Nigeria. Its because of lack of readily available white collar jobs that people /youths deceive themselves with backyard farming. Thats how fish farming people were deceiving everyone with backyard farming some years ago. May God open the eyes of youths to see the truth and stop following illusions. If backyard farming is a sustainable source of income, then those in the villages will be millionaires and not living in poverty.

Agriculture not only gives riches to a nation, but the only riches she can call her own....

there's joy in self employed job than all this white collar job sometimes. you can do the thinking about people working 24/7 collecting peanuts at the end of the month. do the simple math sir

but your NL handle name is funny tho. Madgoat

smiles.... you and poverty ehen, backyard farming is just like Subsistence farming sir, you can't compare it with Commercial farming now. when we have backyard farming, it's for small scale production (family consumptions mostly).

I really love your argument sir. but the association is trying to create awareness and encourage people to start rearing rabbits in commercial level. do you know some people don't know about rabbits as fresh superb meats to be eating always.

I respect your side of argument

Thanks for the compliment grin

On a more serious note Agric is good when done on large scale and with modern equipments or industrialized. Most threads on nairaland paint crude farming/ backyard farming as a gold mine. It can never be a gold mine with crude backyard farming methods. Forget all the hype and testimonies people give about being contented with their small farms. Its all an illusion and an attempt to have online celebrity status. Most backyard farmers are so poor and cant even boast of 10k in their accounts but when they come online to talk about their farms you will think they are millionaires. This are facts i am giving you from my interaction with farmers. Anybody going into rabbit farming should not be led astray thinking that with few rabbits he/she will have a sustainable income to feed their families. Thats just poverty in the making.
We need to start telling people that to really make it in agric generally and get sustainable income, one needs to go large scale and employ modern technology.

I don't believe joining an association is compulsory if you don't want to. Why can't we just be progressive for once in this country?
.This is not a matter of hatred, just try to rear rabbit and fail to joint the association; within a tinkle of an eye these people will frustrate your effort with police.Learn from pepper seller association in oshodi Lagos.

The only downside to this is when you as a rabbit farmer refuse to join the association due to personal and business reasons and they end up using the police to intimidate you.

All I see is bunch of opportunists who hurriedly formed this association to amass wealth for themselves, ranging from government subventions, to monthly and annual taxing from members to aid from international NGOs.

My Personal view though

Exactly what I ask the convener in his other thread. He has not answered till now. I have been a victim of this type of association in the past. This is how it starts.

Most of them are Uneducated to live a luxurious life, moreover were you shown the statement of their bank account or what you read online, I've read this same piece you posted.

With this your post, I wonder if you've created tonnes of white colar Jobs Somewhere for people to apply, Millions are generated through livestock rearing excluding poultry and acquaculture, which are soooo risky. One need an alternative source of income as a beginner of any Business venture .Do you know why acquaculture is not profitable? Cos there are cheaper and billions of fishes from the natural source. Likewise for poultry, there are locally reared and imported alternatives and people buy life chicken mostly during festive periods.

Infact we are saying almost the same thing here. The deception bloggers and online forums create in respect of agric is usually the downfall of people. Some people resign from their jobs to sit down with their backyard farms because they have been told they will make millions with just a few chickens and few fish ponds. It doesn't work that way in the real world. One cannot have a small farm and expect to have sustainable income from it without having another job. This is what bloggers dont tell you.
And yes, there are cheaper alternatives to catfish but when u hear catfish farmers talking, you will think catfish is the only fish on earth and with one or two concrete ponds one will be earning a reasonable income. We need to always be realistic and truthful when we post online because a lot of people plan based on what they read on forums.
