PRESENT
He walked in and watched as she packed some wears into a Ghana must go bag, he wondered while he’d seen her pack twice since he returned, did his mother brought her new clothes and told her to throw out the ones she own before?
None of those mattered to him really, his mother had not told her to pack out for sure. Had that been the case, he wouldn’t have walked in her smiling. She would have brought the roof down with her shouts and his wife would definitely be crying, then he would have had to fight for her stay.
There was no need to imagine the worst, he was home after weeks of travelling to design new buildings and he missed his wife terribly.
“Hmm…. I missed you terribly, my love,” he muttered against her neck.
Ayisat stiffened the moment he wrapped his arms around her and disentangled herself from him quick, her mother in law must not walk in on them like that or she would not hear the last of it.
Khalid was confused; he knew she still behaved shy quite a number of time but didn’t expect that kind of reaction from her.
“What’s the problem Ayi?” he asked.
She hurriedly shook her head. ”Nothing, I was startled that’s all.”
Now, he was more confused. Had she not hear him walked in? She might not have turn around when he walked in but she must have surely felt his presence, it was not even like he tiptoed into the room so why had she claimed she was startled? It had to be his mother, only Allah knows what she said or had done to the poor girl.
“What happened, tell me. What did mother do…..Why are you packing your clothes, she didn’t tell you to leave right?”
She shook her head again but said nothing.
“Well…..” he prompted.
“Mother said I should move into the guestroom with her, I am to stay with her now.”
Maybe he didn’t hear that right, he asked. “What? Why?”
Ayisat didn’t know how to tell him, it was simple as “I am pregnant” but she was finding it difficult to say the words.
“You are not talking Ayisat,” he sounded impatient.
She inhaled deeply. “I’m heavy.” That was all she could think of in her nervous state.
It took him awhile to understand what she meant and when he finally did, he was both shocked and pissed.
“You are pregnant?” he couldn’t hide the anger in his voice.
The way he asked the question frighten her, she took a step back in reflex and nodded slowly to answer his question.
“You found that out and told my mother first? Who’s your husband?!” he roared out.
Your mother, an inner voice gave him his answer but he refused to admit that.
“You couldn’t have called or wait for me to return before telling someone else what is mine by right to hear first?” he added in anger, ignoring the voice laughing in his head.
Ayisat shook her head vehemently and was weeping before she could stop herself.
“I didn’t tell her! S…she just c… came in and ……”
“I don’t want to hear! Save it!” he cut her off and started to walk out.
She covered her mouth to prevent herself from crying out. Allah! Why was she so weak? Why couldn’t she just say it out?
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Mrs Gimba hummed happily to her favourite song playing in her head, finally! Her dream were going to come true, she was going to get what was hers and become a grandma. Allah perished anything or anyone planning to stand in her way!
“Mother! Mother!” Khalid called loudly as he made his way to the dinning room.
The woman ignored him and continued to hum softly as she served the food and covered it.
He realised his mother would never answer or give him her attention if he continued to use that tone so he calmed down.
“Mother?” he called, softly this time.
She turned to him. ”I thought some senses have eluded you for you to be shouting like someone getting burned by fire.”
He opened his mouth to say something but decided it was best he didn’t respond to his mother’s insult.
“Why did you ask Ayisat to move to your room?” he asked instead.
“Is that why you were shouting like a deranged man? Did she not tell you she has taken in?”
He frowned. “How does that explain why she’s moving out of our room to yours?”
“Everything!” she shouted.
Khalid was surprised at her sudden reaction, he watched her covered the last dish and sat on one of the dinning chairs.
“Sit down son,” she said calmly.

I make sure I update three days after the last one and if you paid attention, it wasn't like that before. To be honest, only you and two other guys motivates me to update. I am not perfect I know but even this no one will point it out! Had I left the book in my shelf, no one except my brothers will ever read this, I know and I am grateful for the number of views but if you can view, why is so hard for you to say something? Any ways, I already made a promise and I plan on keeping it but since it seems like I'm writing for few folks, I don't have to go extra miles to get data so that I can update. Thanks pearl, I'll try and update before the day runs out.

They've been waiting for like a whole day and then you just drop a few lines... That's discouraging so maybe if you can make it lengthy, they surely see what to comment about and remember always keep ur readers thirsty for more ...like suspense and intriguing and trust me people will comment...
Suspense is the key dear... Keep it up you're really doing a great job on this story though...

Re: The Child Bride by AryEmber(f): 9:11am On Dec 28, 2017
He marvelled at how quick his mother’s mood suddenly changed.
“I know I say this a lot but that girl is bad news.” She started and he couldn’t help but winced, “the only reason I am tolerating her is because you don’t have enough time to marry another. She had no plan to get pregnant if not for Allah’s intervention and even now that she is, she has no plan to deliver that baby in her. You remember I said I would visit Malim Al- amir the last time I was here?”
He nodded, wondering what nonsense this powerful clergyman had cooked up and fed his mother. It couldn’t have been the truth for his mother to be this calm.
“I wasn’t able to meet him immediately you see because he is a very busy man. I only got the chance yesterday and after explaining everything to him, he told me it was revealed to him that useless girl is already pregnant!”
Khalid said through his teeth. “Can you just call her Ayisat mother? I think it’s less mouthful than useless or unfortunate girl.”
She ignored him and continued. “He then warned me that the child may not stay! Can you believe that? My first grandchild may not get the chance to be born? Allah forbids such! I would have come here that yesterday but I had to buy more baby wears and pack the ones I had before so I waited till today.”
“So now, you’re happy to stay with my barren turned fruitful wife. That still doesn’t explain why she’s to move to your room.”
“After all I’ve said, you still can’t piece it together? That girl will be working out plans to get rid of the baby, she knows I will be watching her every move closely and when out of ideas, she will use you.”
“Use me?” he was confused.
“Yes, you will be her perfect medicine to get rid of the child but I won’t let that happen. The silly thing didn’t even want to tell me, I had to force it out of her to confirm and you can imagine her saying she was not sure yet.”
“Use me exactly how mother?” he asked, ignoring the voice that was rebuking for accusing Ayisat wrongly.
She hissed. ”She will use your weakness for her dirty work! Losing that child the same way she got it and of course, you would never know. Men and their lusts! You would just keep thrusting till she loses the baby, doing exactly what she wants. I am here to ensure she does not use her feminine wiles on you and the best way to do that is for her to stay away from you.”
Realisation turned on him and he felt embarrassed and livid discussing such matters with his mother, what sort of assumption and conclusion was that!
“For the love of Allah! Mother, how could you think of such? We have not even gone to a doctor to confirm the pregnancy or hear if there are precautions to follow, you can’t just….”
“We don’t need any more confirmation, Malim is a man of God and do not tell lies and I think I have been in this world long enough to know the necessary precautions. Don’t forget I gave birth to you and both your grandmothers were not there to help me.”
He was angrier now. “Still, you don’t actually expect me to stay away from my wife till she gives birth and what? Till she stop breast feeding? Or you are going to draw out a time table, stay and watch so that you can tell me when I’m thrusting too much. Is that all you plan?”
“Mock me all you want but…..”
“I am not mocking you mother, I am making you see how ridiculous all this is! I will not agree to this, never!”
“Satisfy your wants outside if you have to but I am not watching her lose that baby, that’s my own.”
He shook his head. “If you think that I will go out and have extra marital affair because my wife is pregnant, you obviously don’t know me at all. I will not……”
“If I were you, I would go and have that shower and come back for my food. The food won’t be hot forever and cold food is not delicious, trust me.” She said and left the room like he was no longer there.
“This conversation is not over mother!” he shouted but he might as well have shouting to a wall.
When will you stop her from controlling your life like a child? The annoying voice was back again.
“And what am I supposed to do? I can’t chase her out, she is my mother for crying out loud!” he, for a moment, forgot he was talking to himself.
This woman would not drive him insane; he was supposed to be happy today for the love of God! He was going to be a father! Something he’d considered impossible!

I don't comment much.

Aside from few typos here and there, you are really doing a great job here OP, keep up the good work.

Growing up in the North I have seen lots of child bride cases and it's not easy for most of them especially those married to men with little or no education.

CHAPTER FIVE
She looked at all the items in awe, picking them each to be sure she was not dreaming but she wasn’t, this was real.
She fell to her knees suddenly.
“Thank you so much for all of these, may the almighty bless you in abundance! I’m so grateful my husb….”
He clicked his tongue repeatedly and shook his head. “What’s my name Ayi?”
“Erm…. Sorry, thank you Khalid,” she said shyly and bow her head.
“You are saying that on your knees? Get up and smile for me please, that’s all I want.”
Ayisat got up and did as he asked. “Thank you, I….I don’t know how to thank you enough but I’m grateful with all my heart.” She clasped her hands together and bowed her head like someone about to say a prayer and continued to muttered ‘thank you’.
Khalid lifted her chin up and said softly. “You are an intelligent girl and also hardworking. I also know you have the determination to be someone in life and all you need is help, I may not be able to do much but I promise to assist you in any way that I can. Once I have the time, I will look for a good lesson centre for you or hire home tutors if those are what you want.”
“Home tutors are better,” she said quickly. There was no way she would go out and perhaps meet anyone who might inform her mother in law.
He smiled and she wondered whether he sensed her fears.
“That it is then but you will have to manage with these textbooks on your own for a while and I trust you’ll use them wisely, maybe I will join you sometimes.”
She nodded and soon began to rain down prayers on him in their native tongue. He had no choice but to stop her when she would not, even after he stopped saying ‘amen’.
“It’s not that I don’t need the prayers but food to fill my stomach first will be deeply appreciated.” He said with a smile.
“Oh! Of course! I’ll serve dinner right away….. Thank you once again my….. Khalid,” she rushed out before he could complain about the mistake she almost made.
He smiled more widely and shook his head before heading up.
Ayisat was still in daze; he bought her studying materials and even promised her help! This was her creator at work! Oh, thank you Allah!
She had no idea how far he was willing to help her but she was hopeful, the future had better things in store for her. She smiled happily as she served his food, something she was beginning to enjoy these days.
PRESENT
He heard a movement and looked up to see his wife holding a cup of tea.
“Mother said I should bring you tea,” she said in a low voice, so low he could barely hear her and she had her face down.
He caused this and he knew he did, he made he the girl that feared him again and he had no one to blame but himself…... and maybe his mother.
Oh no, you did the barking and accusing before hearing her out not mother.
Khalid groaned, cursing the voice and himself. He didn’t want her to fear him, he wanted her affections instead.
“Place it on the stool,” he said.
She did that quickly and turned to leave but he stopped her.
“Please wait Ayisat,” he quickly stood up.
Ayisat turned back with her face still down, he moved closer to her and lift her chin up.
“I am so sorry Ayi, I should have listen to you and never raise my voice at you. It’s wrong and I’m truly sorry.”
She nodded. ”I am sorry too.”
He shook his head. ”no, I was wrong and I should be the one to apologize not you, you didn’t do anything wrong. It was mother who forced you to tell her, I know that now and I am sorry for falsely accusing you.”
“I am not offended, you don’t need to apologize.”
He knew she didn’t offend him but would never agree so he nodded to stop arguing.
“Alright, I forgive you. Am I forgiven too?”
She couldn’t help the smile even though she wanted to appear serious. “Yes, my husband.”
“You say that to annoy me intentionally, don’t you?” he said smiling.
“Did it work?” she said and smiled more widely.
The smile on his face died and for a moment, she thought he was truly pissed and was about to beg him when he burst into laughter.
“I got you there for a second, didn’t I?”
Ayisat started to laugh and he soon joined. They both laugh for what it seemed like forever.
Khalid was the first to stop laughing and when he did, he started to look at her like someone fascinated by a rare treasure.
“I love your laughter, have I ever told you that?”
She stopped laughing but still had a smile on her face, she didn’t know if he really wanted an answer and he continued before she could think of a reply.
“I love your smile too….. Your face and everything organ in it,” he said in a husky voice.
Her smile slowly disappeared when she notice the look on his face. It was no longer the remorseful look he had on before; it was now the look of a man who wanted her in intimate ways. She was awe at how quick his demeanour changed, with the look in his eyes; she was not leaving the study room anytime soon and although she should be weary, she felt excitement her ran through instead.
Khalid knew he should let her leave especially as his mother was still downstairs but he couldn’t help himself. He was only going to kiss her once, just once.
She shuddered as his lips covered hers, nothing registered in her mind again. She moaned and returned his kisses with the same fiery passion, she couldn’t even think of her monster in law would do if she came to look for her and found them like this.
How she was suddenly sitting on top of his desk, she had no idea, all she knew was that he was kissing her like his life depended on it and she didn’t want him to stop.
He promised himself of stopping after one kiss but he couldn’t….. Didn’t want to stop, he missed her terribly and it felt like she did too. Hell, she was urging him on and they both needed to quench the thirst for each.
Everything….. Everyone else could go to hell for all he cared. She was his wife, his only! He had his right to love anytime he wanted, no one should tell him when to and when not to!
Ayisat felt her skirt been raised up and waited in anticipation of the pleasure to come.
“Subhana Allah!”
Ayi heard the shout that sounded like thunder crash and trembled.
