Of course it will be tight to save that much as a married man with kids earning that income with no additional income from the wife.

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, full time child care costs in a decent nursery for one child (aged below 3) is within the range of £1100 to £1200 per month. I won’t be surprised if there are nurseries that charge more.

However for a single guy, it’s every possible depending on what part of the country he resides.

You are single, only recently relocated to the UK, arrived in the UK (job waiting), expenses cut to bare minimum, accommodation provided by employer etc etc

Which one is eating like slave? What alternative are you offering then? No matter what there will always be bills to pay.A smart person will make sure there’s a lot left over after paying necessities,if it means living in shack and cycling to work..so be it.

One bedroom flat - £500
Electricity - £40 (no gas as the heating is powered electronically same with the hob)
Council tax with 25% single person discount - £66
Bus pass - £54 (unlimited travel on buses and tram for one month across the entire city)
Feeding - £100 a month (including Chinese takeaway, buying lunch at work)
Miscellaneous- £100 (uber, haircut, etc)

So tell me how it isn’t possible to save more than £1,000 per month.

And you wonder why you don’t really hear about people “moaning” about getting up the property ladder up north like you hear in some parts of England.

I forgot to add that up north, there’s nothing like water/sewage charges. It’s already included in the council tax.

TV license - optional as long as you do not open the door for any stranger

I have a vacation at least once a year and that vacation usually includes a trip to US.

I buy all my “designer” outfit from the US (Ralph, tommy, etc) because it’s cheaper.

I’m not a person that stuck on a budget. I’m usually more financially disciplined when I’m saving towards a goal (maybe buying a house, etc). Apart from that, I couldn’t care less if the money for clothes, etc comes direct from my monthly pay cheque or savings.

You suddenly changed the savings argument from £1k to £2k.

i think i saved about 1,500 this December sha after take home of 3,200.
Not so efficient


Rent, council tax, bills, tv tax, home insurance est 900pounds

Food est 200 ( KFCs/ Tesco/ Pizzas , african shopping etc )

Phone and mifi = 80

Transport = 200

haircut = 20

Nigeria = 1,400 ( taken out of cummulative and someone i borrowed money returned 1k)

Germany = gave my bro 300 pounds

but on the whole i had a net top-up of 1,500 sha ( locum work est +300 pounds only 1 shift, cos reading for exams)

So all those saving £2000, when they receive a call from Nigeria requesting financial assistance...... Do they give or ignore?
