Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has been accused of being in favour of Buhari’s led government in contradiction to his criticisms during Goodluck Jonathan administration.

On Friday, some Nigerian on social media wondered why the activist has been silent about failed state of economy despite several uproars.

While some claim the Nobel Laureate is being biased, others say he is not under obligation to speak up.

Below are some comments:

@Chxta: “Given where he is coming from it is probably fair for some to criticise Wole Soyinka for not speaking up against this, failed government. However, it is important to point out that the man is 83, and has spent the last six decades fighting governments of various sorts.

@demolaojo: “Wole Soyinka was constantly attacking GEJ directly when he felt he was underperforming, which was right. Not enough saying he’s talked about the economy, condemned herdsmen attack, IPOB etc. Heck, who hasn’t?
Has he directly spoken out against /berated Buhari?

@Isimaodeh: “Prof. Wole Soyinka isn’t obligated to criticize any Governmenr, but saying the same man who was holding press conferences to criticise the Goodluck Jonathan administration at the age of 76 to 81 from 2010 – 2015, is suddenly “too old to comment” on Politics at age 84 is stupidity.

@wekky23: “On the continuous silence of Prof wole Soyinka, Pastor Tunde Bakare and co ,my conclusion is that they are cowards, that lack the courage and determination to admit their mistakes of misleading many Nigerians astray.

@afrispheric: “Their loud silence is at a minimum, an implicit endorsement of the mess Buhari has made of things. Worse, it may be that something other than patriotism drove those men all along. At the end of the day, it is quite shameful, especially for someone of Wole Soyinka’s level.

Others, however, urged Nigerian youths complaining to fight for their rights instead of waiting for likes of Wole Soyinka , Tunde Bakare to attack the government.

@AishaYesufu: “You say President Buhari is too old to be President yet you wait on Professor Wole Soyinka to give Press conferences to hold the government accountable on your behalf. Get some liver and do something! Stop focusing on what others are doing or not doing.

@Ogundamisi: “Ground Zero ‘YOOTS’ will never seize to amaze me. They are waiting on Wole Soyinka to come and help them remove their chains. Enu e le wa yen. Make una dey wait for Kongi. SMH. You can also be a Wole Soyinka, start a radical movement of your own, don’t wait for Wole.

@olaosunD: “See people debating why Wole Soyinka is not criticizing Buhari. Wole Soyinka o. 83 years old. So, we have no problem abdicating the responsibility for monitoring our future to people that are not likely to be in it?

@jolatankoka: “Wole Soyinka severally checked Buhari, Yar’Adua, Obasanjo, Jonathan. If he decides to be quiet now, it’s his choice – that should be respected. If he’s tired – we should applaud him. New Soyinkas should have evolved, but they are busy massaging Tinubu, Saraki, and El-Rufai’s ego.

@Radicalyouthman: “If Nigerian Youths will reject the old brigade of Leaders, it is right that we also reject the old brigade of Activists. Why do we have to wait on Wole Soyinka and Femi Falana to lead protests in 2017? Why can’t we lead our own Change?

Wole Soyinka arrested for speaking up in 1967. The lazy youths of 2017 still waiting on him to speak up. No wonder old people are hanging on to power.

I pray for this generation of Nigerians. Soyinka should speak up while they waste their time on useless stuff like BB Nigeria.

It’s simply a Government of cultism. They must favor each other, just imagine how no one is protesting despite Nigerians dying of hunger.

What do you want the cultist to say, ehn.

Good that he is hiding his face in shame because nobody will ever take him serious again after he fought tooth and nail to see that the administration of Jonathan was brought down tru his bombastic and unexplainable English.

The Dullard he sold to us is showing everyone pepper and now he suddenly lost his voice.

Soyinka has never hidden the fact that pmb was less than desirable to lead Nigeria, his biggest faux pau was insulting mama peace...

Exonerate him of what? He is not guilty of anything. A man cannot be guilty of not talking about a subject you or anyone else can talk about.

At 84 he is not obligated to do jack. He should be in his rocking chair sipping his pina colada. If the younger ones won't pick up the baton, tough luck.
Even at 84 his words are more potent than yours will ever be.
