In those days when PDP destroyed the economy for 16 years, A bag of rice was N7500 and a litre of petrol was N87. A dollar was N170. A 'Bajaj' motorcycle was N82,000 A 10kg bag of Semovita was N1,100 A 10kg bag of Wheat meal was N700 The Lagos-Abuja transport fare was N2500 A 75ml of palm-oil was N70 A bottle of Coca cola was N60 A tin of Peak milk was N80 A pack of Ciprotab drug was N1100 Infact, Those guys destroyed the economy totally! Wicked people!!! Thank God for our APC Messiahs that have come to revive the economy; A bag of rice is now N16,000 and a litre of petrol is now N350. A dollar is N368!!! A 'Bajaj' motorcycle is now N280,000 A 10kg bag of Semovita is now N3000 A 10kg bag of Wheat meal is now N2800 The Lagos - Abuja fare is now N15,500 A 75ml of palm oil is now N400 A bottle of Coca cola drink is now N100 A tin of Peak milk is now N220 A pack of 'Ciprotab' drug is now N3200 Please say the truth...which government do you prefer and why? 13 Likes 2 Shares |

Ur analysis is incomplete All u mentioned are import/consumption item why not also include the only commodity we export to pay for all u mentioned. Include the price of crude sold by the PDP government and the price of crude sold now. That should help u in ur analysis Ps: note dollar was N240/$ in May 2015 28 Likes 4 Shares

I have found out that Nigerians are very difficult to please, they prefer to be flogged than pampered. As a matter of fact, the average Nigerian is so foolish, that if this administration should return things the way the met them when they assumed office, Nigerians would still applaud that as a political point. You can imagine, someone took dollar exchange rate from 1$/180naira to 1$/400naira, and after about 8months of hardship, this administration struggled to bring it down to 1$/330 naira and again, the foolish Nigerians started applauding again. Nigerians just love suffering, else how would some people still be campaigning for this administration, because of rice and wrappers? That would finish and wear out before 4 years elapse? Well what do I know? Nigerians learn the hard way 24 Likes 2 Shares

hardywaltz:The exchange rate increase was buhari's fault no matter how you look at it. for short fall in revenue he has more than compensated for it by increament and introduction of different taxes and savings from not paying subsidies, and borrowing, so money was not his problem but lack of creative ideas and his substandard team who are learning on the job. 14 Likes 2 Shares |

PDP weren't saints, they had their issues, especially with corruption but we thought we could make it better by trying APC which number one problem is LIES The devil you know is better than the angel you don't. I'll rather trust someone who steals a little from me than an outright lier that can sell me in a heart bit APC is consumed by the quest to make others look bad. That takes up all their time and after sometime, you find out they've not achieved anything cos the obsession of painting others black clouds their judgement So I still think PDP inspite their flaws are better Note; the success of a party at a given time is largely influenced by who is running the government for them. If the individual is held down by vendetta, nepotism, inability to break new grounds, bridge gaps and carry everyone along, inability to create wealth and support productivity, the party also tend to go in that direction 9 Likes 1 Share

surgical:Using the Op's hypothesis PDP met the exchange rate at N22/$ on May 29, 1999 but left it at N240/$ on May 29 2015. Do the maths. 1090% devaluation A bag of rice was less than N1,800 back in 1999. We could continue all day comparing grapes Vs apples But the simple fact remains that all our imports, exchange rate and economy are hinged on the price of crude and the quantity we pump out and sell. 2016 was a disasterous year coz crude was below $30/barrel and crude production was less than 1.2mbp every other item the op mentioned depends solely on those two variables. 18 Likes 3 Shares |

Nonsense. How many rice farm did your ineffectual buffoon cultivated in 6yrs. How much did he save in federal reserve, in TSA, in excess crude acc, in SWF etc. Paying pension and salaries at when due. So many reason things are expensive this days. Price of crude oil which affects the price of dollars which also affects the price of imported goods which in turn increase custom revenue generated to federation acc 3 Likes |

Why not compare what PDP met in 1999 with what they left in 2015 before comparing them to the APC. I'm not defending APC but if it's the Papa Deceive Pikin party they will neva rule Nigeria again... We will rather vote in KOWA 13 Likes 1 Share |

the analysis does not capture the true situation of things. if the comparison is accepted at face value, can it be said that because price of a bag of cement was N650 in 1995 that Abacha's government was better? or that because fuel was less than N5 in 1993 means that Nigeria was flying high then... we have to look at it from the perspective of standard of living... how many people did PDP move from absolute poverty to a better living standard & how many has APC done in the time it has had... how many new businesses came up? how stable was our economy? what was the purchasing power of the average working Nigerian... what was life expectancy then & what is it now? what was literacy level then & what is it now? where there more job opportunities then compared to now? the above are some of the questions that should be asked when doing a comparison... because if Nigerians was prospering under PMB, even if cost of goods & services are 1m more than the previous governments, it won't matter as long as the average people can afford them with little stress... that's the main difference... 17 Likes 3 Shares |

i spit each time someone brings this crude oil argument. What is oils contribution to our GDP? about 24%. it is only Govt revenue that oil contributes about 90%. Is Nigeria run by govt alone? No we are a mixed economy, capitalism plays a huge role in Nigerian economy APC killed the middle class, APC brought sorrow tears and blood to the land. I wonder how many Nairalanders know basic economics, they keep shouting oil oil oil. it makes me really angry....PDP brought out massive programs which drove the private sector forward ...Cassava flour, Agric revolution by the former minister of agric, You win, and the license for modular refineries, the privatization of NEPA (even though they flopped it, but it was a good move) and the biggest win by PDP the telecom sector reform. APC has not done any meaningful program in 3 yrs, aby NPOWER wey be NYSC remix na im una wan call? APC is just a lying, thieving, conniving son of a bit.ch Even in the anti corruption PDP beat APC, cus all the machinery APC is using PDP birthed them, there is no originality of ideas from APC, they are good at copy and paste 10 Likes 2 Shares |

FakoMaybach1: Stop lying to urself Our entire economy is solely dependent on oil export. Our budget is based on the price of the crude and the quantity of crude we pump out and sell.. All 36 state Governments have their budget based on FAAC allocation which is based on sharing of proceeds from oil, even the VAT, Tax and custom duties are mainly oil related. When the price of crude dropped at the international market our economy came crashing down like a pack of cards. 10 Likes 1 Share |

hardywaltz: It is obvious you are not well versed in Macro economics....The budget u are shouting of what is the implementation, i cant recall when Nigeria ever had up to 60% implementation of Budget. so what are you saying?. Nigeria has other sources of revenue apart from Oil get that into your thick skull, and Oil does not and cannot determine our standard of living. APC threw us into recession, when the mad man refused to appoint ministers 6 months into his regime, running a one man show. Investors pulled out, capital market lost the 40,000 psychological mark we met years ago etc. Blame oil as APC person wey u be always trading blames, keep blaming u hear 7 Likes 2 Shares |

1. Who in the right sense is comparing 16yrs and 3yrs? 2. Who compares oil revenue of $115/barrel to $60/barrel? 3. Who is the fool that compares years of subsidy of products, making it readily available because of point (2) above at that time to years when subsidy cannot be sustained because of the same point (2) above? The same way IBB ruined the economy was the same way PDP did same. By subsidizing every imported thing, through waivers to friends and accomplices, making it appear cheaper to you, but leaving an abyss of debt and lack of industrialization that will take guts and years to fill. The reason many easterners are feeling the crunch more is the same reason you should stop calling yourself industrialist. You guys are nothing but import marchants! Once the Importation business took a dip, your financial earnings follows. That should wake you up- you manufacture nor produce nothing! But keep the comparison like the fools that you are.... 10 Likes 2 Shares

FakoMaybach1: You must think you are talking to your village people. If oil isn't the platform on which the Nigerian economy stands, why was Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala lamenting the state of affairs when the price of the barrel dipped from approximately 100 dollars to 70 ? Why then did she make the comment that Nigerians should brace up for hard times? 7 Likes |

FakoMaybach1: Oga Macro Economist kindly answer the following questions 1. What is the specific item mentioned in our budget as benchmark for which our entire income is based on? 2. All 36 State Governments including Lagos base their budget (revenue) on which commodity? 3. Did you ever read Prof. Charles Soludo's letter to ur hero GEJ when he was President and the opposition party then APC about what was going to happen in the next few months? 4. Is there anything written in that letter by the erudite Prof of Macro Economics that hasn't occurred? I have attached a copy of OBJS warning to GEJ of what is to be expected in the months to come.
