I grew up in the hands of community that believes and says "The father of a child is the owner of the child" most cases this saying is usually put into practice at the time of annulment, I'm not arguing this but I'm just not totally convinced, so my question is, from where did this belief emanate and what is the reasoning behind it?

I think that's because the child bears his/her father's name.

Its a useless belief. That's d belief of animals....dogs, goats, fowl etc...the males don't Gake responsibilities. Its d mothers that do d the training.

It shouldnt be for humans too.

The child bears the father's name because he's the father, I don't think it's enough to claim ownership of the child, one can also say the woman breastfed the child, so that should give her rightful ownership

its the one feature that seperates humans from animals.in the animal kingdom the mother gives birth and raises the offspring by herself. and owns the babies 100%. only a few species exist that have the male participating in offspring raising.
in humans, the child is given to the father for various reasons.
1.the father historically was the provider
2.in case of a divorce the father takes the kid and the mother is free to begin afresh with another man with no baggage to make her undessirable to another man.
3.fathers historical did the early training of children.this meant the principles of Patriarchy were imparted early so they take root.
but this practice has come with heavy costs to men.the Patriarchy was great but did have its weaknesses and drawbacks.

The woman is married off to the man. She automatically assumes her husband's last name and denounces her father's last name. Now, in a situation that birth takes place, the child is the man's whereas the woman is only recognised as the mother. The only exception is if he's unfit to claim ownership.

in history. from the time of our ancestors.its men who took care of everyone. while among animals its only the mother who provides for the young.

But now that mothers also take part in this duty, the saying still remains

in the West they have killed that saying already.they were like us. sooner or later even here in Africa its gonna go.
society is slowly re-aligning itself under the Matriarchy.the rule of the mother.

But is there any religious take on it or we humans just agree it should be like that

its something men agreed on.and forced it on everyone.its not even Biblical.but it does work in favour of pushing the faith of the Bible forward.
