Please what is the difference between Short Service Commission and Direct Short Service Commission? What advantage/disadvantage does one have over the other? Are you both placed on the same rank?
Hope those employed via SSC won't be required to go to the battle front or Sambisa forest?

not all SSC are deployed to combat corps. 90% go to combat corps. Pls if u are scared of sambisa or war, pls don't bother applyin for Army. Join the Airforce. Cause in Army, even their doctors are deployed to war zones..
I know two Medical docs in the Nig army. One is in Liberia for peace keeping while one is currently at Maiduguri (sambisa).

Gentlemen, don't be deceived. The moment you put on the uniform, you are liable to be sent anywhere, no matter your specialty. A word is enough for the wise.

Just wait for the right one and apply. Why settle for less when you can get more having obtained a degree. Besides, you shouldn't even be caught. Be determined not desperate. Apply for SSC OR DSSC, whichever you want when it's out, and do all you can to get in. Crossing from recruit to officer is not automatic and no added advantage. You're as good as a civilian that applied

as soon as u join the army with ur O'level, ur Bsc is useless to d army as the will not recognize it. For u to join the SSC after joinin with O'level, army has to sent u to school to get a degree. For army to sent u to school, u must at least service for minimum of 4yrs. And if ur CO (commanding officer) isn't a good person, den u wont go to school cause he is the one to approve it.

I advise anyone wanting to join the military to read and understand the Harmonized Terms And Conditions Of Service before thinking of joining the military to avoid regrets and frustration in the service. Military is a different world entirely. It's more like a cult group. Once you entered, very hard to come out. Many soldiers join the military without knowing what it entails. So many are regretting. One met me this morning and was telling me about resigning. I asked him how many years he has spent in the system he said just 5years. I laughed and handed him the HTACOS to read about resignation from service. After reading, he was crying. There are so many things in the military that some officers and soldiers don't know about. Recently in Borno state, 3 soldiers are facing a death sentence while 22 others have life sentence. If these soldiers read HTACOS I don't think they would have landed in this mess they found themself. There are some offences that look so minor in the civil sector when commited but when such offences are committed in the military, may lead to either death sentence, life in prison, degradation or dismissal of personnel as the case may be. Three of such offences are: AWOL, sleeping on duty and cowardice.
The 2007 HTACOS stated that a soldier who sleeps on duty shall face a life sentence while cowardice was death sentence. Please read the 2012 HTACOS governing the area of commission you want to apply for. E.g. DSSC Terms and Conditions is slightly different from RC specially in the area of promotion and appointment.

Well said... Very very apt.
The truth is most people don't know what they're signing for when joining the military. Fine, the respect is thr and also Navy's white on white uniform is beautiful but if you don't really have a passion for the military, don't join cos you'll be frustrated. The pay is also not that much like people always think, if you get commissioned as a SLt, your salary is BTW 165-185k. Most of these new generation banks pay more than that with better allowances. Oil companies, telecoms, IT firms pay higher. Lastly, if you've been destined to be an officer, you'll definitely be one.

From what I have read I have not seen a dept with degree requirement in sociology, the closest is personnel mgt, pub admin and hrm for the dssc.
You might want to consider taking recognised professional certifications in the stated fields.

I equally have no issues with you attending a private school, just do well in the aptitude test, submit legit docs, pass the medical test and face the selection board to convince them you are the right fit candidate.

All the best in all your endeavours.

PS: all these musings are my personal opinions.

Thanks
