Preach sister.

I still knock myself for wasting all those years writing silly acca exams.

Like you said IT is going places especially with the new technologies. You just have to pick an area and focus.
I read an article not too long about Internet of Things being deployed in new cars. What this means is there would be fewer accidents on the road cos if you are sleeping behind the steering, the car will alert you. If you are not maintaining your lane., you will get notified. Before you hit the car in front automatic brakes will be applied and so on. Don't get me started about cloud technology. Life is good!

This is exactly what I was trying to explain to ilekokonit
in my previous quotes..I don't know anything about IT for now but I'll like to focus on programming... Bossman should Know the kind of programming that is applicable to the Automotive industry(production, security, diagonising etc). Make una help me abeg.. I already have the basic knowledge of automotive mechanic thou.. I just want to be more advanced.

Nice prayer but remember that the grass is always greener from the other side and not all that glitters is gold.

A lot of people in Nigeria who are not politicians and were not silver spoon kids are doing way better than some people who are stranded abroad.

How did they do it Maybe they combined a healthy dose of self belief + networking + (faith or luck) + perspiration + persistence + never say never attitude + a determination NOT to leave Nigeria and still make it in Nigeria.

If you have it at the back of your mind that you will at some point leave Nigeria for greener pastures abroad then all your sub conscious "may" not be geared towards making it big in Nigeria.

The same Nigeria that people abroad are returning to in droves.

With almost every application hosted on the Web, its a no brainer that pen testing skills are in high demand.

I thought you use kali Linux for that. Python and Ruby skills are on the rise. I don't know much about Web development skills

Yeah Kali Linux is used but Arch Linux distro is becoming increasingly popular among pen testers. The Black Arch which is for pen testing(runs on Arch Linux) contain over 2000 pentesting tools

Only beer parlour talk of how Nigeria is heaven on earth.

Yes, absolutely. You have to be dedicated of course. What IT skills are you looking at software development/programming? IT itself is broad - programming, DB admin, Networking. Of course, programming is the hottest right now. If you are looking to get into that, it advice you choose one of the major programming languages (I'd suggest Java, since I have been doing it for donkey years, and have had a great career out of doing it) out there and learn programming thoroughly. In general, people that find mathematics/problem solving easy, tend to be successful programmers. Not saying one can't be a programmer if they do not like math, however it will not be easy. Should not be an issue for you, since you are a Medical Doctor. So you've done a lot of Math.

This Pidgin2 gets me irritated so much

Lets be realistic. What will change the fact that inside our country in the year 2017, more than half of the population are languishing in poverty, unemployed/underemployed and survive on less than a dollar a day? Some of the countries we helped now enjoy stable power supply and have good basic social amenities which are inaccessible to the common man in Nigeria. Most of our country's best minds are abroad building other nations and a lot of the ones in the country want to go abroad. Charity begins at home. The government should redirect its resources at fast tracking the country's development instead of you selling lies to people here.
I reside in Nigeria, it's only a tiny few that have it good here.

America and UK have more poorer people but the black brain can easily be brainwashed and you are one of such. A careful research will make you realize you have been under an intense brainwashing circle since birth. Nigeria have no single best mind abroad, no Nigeria who reside abroad have been rated in anything globally, they are all wage slaves

Who are these so called best brains abroad?

These 18 Nigerians, are best brains in Information Technology occupying various sensitive positions from Risk Management, Software Developing, Software Engineering, Payment, Customer Care, Advertising, Technology Processing, Legal, and many other sectors are fondly held in highest esteem by Mark Zuckerberg, the multi-billionaire owner of Facebook.

In this report below, we bring you investigative reports of these 18 Nigerian Information Technology (IT) professionals’ rise-to-fame, journey-to-stardom news stories, so that the truth can be further said that Facebook is an equal-employer company that does not discriminate anyone in its employ as a result of race, color, accent, background, nationality, disability or ethnicity. Are you gifted in IT, then be inspired to follow your aspiration by reading this inspiring news story, which took us over 90 days to painstakingly put together.

Certainly, Zuckerberg is beginning to take Nigeria seriously. But that didn’t happen suddenly, as you will soon discover an increasing number of Nigerians on his salary payroll. Latest investigation confirmed that Research Scientists earn $172,705 per Year, Network Engineer collects $160,172 Annually while Engineering Manager paid $380,861.

Since a Nigerian software engineer Chukwuemeka Afigbo joined Facebook from Google, where he served until 2015 before being replaced by Aniedi Udi-Obong, he had acquires a lot of IT knowledge in Zuckerberg’s firm and had to move on into higher entrepreneurial sectors of same company by way of promotion.

Morin Oluwole is multilingual raised in Nigeria but lived in three different continents. She fluently speak five languages. This is probably why she sealed a role as the Chief of Staff, VP Global Marketing Solutions at Facebook. Oluwole has since taken up a new position as the Luxury Vertical Lead for Facebook/Instagram.

He then joined Microsoft as Explorer Intern in January 2005 and left in August the same year for Google where he worked as an Engineering intern from May 2006 until August 2006. Okelola joined Facebook in 2007 and has been there ever since.

Barbara Mbanefo is another Nigerian-born software Engineer at Facebook, where she develops iOS applications that help businesses connect with their customers. Mbanefo completed her primary and secondary education in Nigeria before proceeding to France to obtain her Masters degree in Software Engineering. She speaks French fluently. Prior to joining Facebook in May 2016, Mbanefo worked as a Software Engineer and a Mobile App User Experience Designer in France, Canada and Hollywood, California.

Isaac Nwokocha is another talented Nigerian. After obtaining a First Class degree in Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2010, Nwokocha tried his hands out on entrepreneurship; he co-founded two startups, including real-time road traffic web, Traffik Dey application. Probably deciding he had had enough of entrepreneurship, Nwokocha proceeded to Stanford for a Master’s Degree in Management Science and Engineering. No sooner had he completed his Masters Degree than he secured a role as a Product Data Integrity, Community Operations/Project Manager at Facebook.

Michael Awotedu, armed with an MBA in Finance (summa cum laude) from the University of Tampa John H. Sykes College of Business, Awotedu works in Risk Program Management at Facebook where he helps to facilitate strategy, and execution for Risk Management on products like FB games, Oculus VR and Ads. Jane Okpala, a highly focused Nigerian, with almost 10 years of strategic, analytical, negotiating, presentation, and management expertise, is the Product Specialist (Social Good and Goodwill), Community Operations, at Facebook. A polyglot in her own right for conversing and writing fluently in least four different languages. Dayo Olopade started her career as a journalist in Washington, covering the 2008 campaign and the Obama era for publications including The Atlantic, The Guardian and The Washington Post.

Nowadays, Olopade applies her wealth of journalistic experience on the Facebook Media Partnerships Team, where she helps publishers take advantage of Facebook, from a business and product perspective. She maintains a painstakingly detailed personal website.

Nigeria is another African nation that has suffered due to a massive brain drain. With much of Nigeria still essentially a developing nation with unreliable power and few resources, higher level science, engineering and medical professionals often find little to motivate them into staying, especially with job offers from the U.S. and European nations exerting a powerful pull. Since Nigeria’s brutal civil war in late 60s, the country has bounced between military governments and dictatorships, pushing out between 11 and 17 million people. Today, over 2 million Nigerians live in the U.S. alone, and of these about 20,000 are doctors and over 10,000 are academics. That’s a heavy loss for a nation that so desperately needs qualified professionals to rebuild and improve its own resources.

Whenever I see your posts, I always feel pity for you. Something must have gone wrong somewhere in the course of your life, I can't really point my finger on it. But I'm pretty sure you fall under one of these categories-
1) You applied for a u.s visa or Canadian visa and you misrepresented documents thereby leading to a ban, or you don't just have the means or opportunity to leave this country. ( most people don't but you don't see them making dumb statements.)
2) You travelled out of the country at a point and got deported.
3) You are someone just looking for attention or popularity. You noticed how popular Pidgin2 is and you decided to follow her path.
The way you and pidgin2 are always on Nairaland, making disparaging comments about the u.s and the u.k shows how jobless you folks are. You can say you're a manager of this or that but it'll be so evident that you're lying. Someone serious with his/her life wouldn't make it his life duty to say the kind of silly things you guys say.
How would an educated person with a certain degree of intelligence say that there are more people suffering in u.k than in Nigeria. Do you see the kind of suffering that exists in Nigeria and other African countries??
The annoying thing is that you guys will defend your silly statements by listing the amount Americans pay in Taxes, or how Aba boys make millions every day. This kind of stupidity annoys me.

To be honest,me and maths are like chalk and cheese.
I just can't tolerate extra mathematics outside 1+1 and titration of meds..
I'll just watch and see what happens.
Thanks ...
In addition to the suggestions given to you so far, I want to suggest if you already have basic IT knowledge; then, the best is to go into App development with regards to medical field. I think this does not actually required too much mathematics.

You can be developing App for android or/and ios phones. For Android platform, you will need to learn Java programming language. For iOS, you will need to learn Objective C, swift etc. There are some online courses at Coursera that can bring you up to speed if you want.

The good thing about this, is that you can be developing interesting apps with regards to medical field, for instance App to monitor diabetes patients, monitor stroke patient ,diagnose some common diseases etc.

This will help you remain focused in your medical field.

I know so many people close to me( relatives and friends) that risked everything to leave this country. I know a lawyer(a relative) that was living a life of penury here in Nigeria after about 7 years after being called to bar. He graduated from OAU with 2nd class upper.
He somehow got an opportunity to relocate to Canada and he's been there for about 3 years now. He came to visit Nigeria Early this year and if you seriously see this guy you'll thank God for his life. Most of his mates were just trying to clinch with the guy and one even tried to defraud him. I have so many examples like this, uncles, family friends, former neighbour e.t.c. They're all living a good life and are taking care of their extended family back home. I don't know anyone personally that travelled and came back as a failure. So you can imagine how angry I am whenever I see some of these guys make their stupid and ignorant statements.
If you're in the u.s or Europe and you are both hardworking and know what you're doing, you'll definitely make it. With Nigeria, it's 50-50.

They are definitely ignorant. We all wish things can get better but there is NO light at the end of the tunnel. I will rather go to a country where my tax will be utilized effectively than stay in a country where almost 40% of my basic salary is charged as tax. The so called tax is what some corrupt officers are stacking somewhere. Can a common man have access to a good medical care? Good road? security ? or any other basic amenity?

If you want Nigeria to be great, you will go to Aso rock and fight there because that is how best you can effectively use your brain or if you are educated, you will sit your community people down and ask them to vote for a competent person in the next election.

In conclusion, no one here needs your opinion. You know why? Because we all know what we want and people should ignore you. I bet you at still struggling to put a decent meal on a table for yourself.
