VO: Where are u going to?
Me: Eastern Illinois university
VO:Y eiu
Me:cos the communication and media studies programme is organized in three academic concentration which is the strategic communication, human communication and cultural studies which aligns with my professional ambition (Vo cuts in)
VO:What would the degree do for u
Me:it would equip me with skills to be able to identify and develop the best communication strategies when the need arises and would also be able to provide possible solutions and recommendations as I want to work with the Nigerian Communication Commission as a communication specialist.
VO: What do u do
Me:I work with a telecoms company and I stated my job descriptions.
VO: So wats gonna happen to d job now. Mayb u're probably gonna take up a job at next.He was laughing and said somethings I didn't hear
Me: I just giggled along with him
VO: Whats your highest qualification
Me: Bsc Masscommunication
VO: Did u write any test?
Me: Yes Toefl. I had 72 ( it was actually waived but I didn't mention it)
VO: I can see you're going for a communication programme
Me: Yes ( he looks at the I-20)
VO: Did u apply to other schools
Me: Fort Hays State University and East Tennessee State University. Got offer from FHSU while ETSU still pending
VO: Who's sponsoring you
Me: My dad
VO:What does he do
Me:He's into import and export of goods as well as haulage of goods
VO: Does he import cars from the US
Me: Yes sometimes
VO: Can I see a statement
Me: Handed him a copy of his company's bank statement
VO: Typing....
VO: Sorry, you said your dad import cars from the US
Me: I repeated yes sometimes. He's into import and exports, haulage as well as clearing and fowarding.
VO: I can see you've been to the US on a family vacation
Me: Yes
VO: Where did you go
Me:Houston and Atlanta
He typed for some mins and handed over the blue paper.

My family members have actually renewed their visas but withdrew mine cos I wanted to apply for student visa. Now I'm feeling I should have just renewed with them.
So also, before my interview I sent a mail to the school as regards my late visa appointment stating that the earliest date I got for my interview was 29th of December. I got a response from them saying "Please move forward with the visa process and keep in touch with our office with an estimated date of arrival. We are able to provide you with an orientation to make you cover what you miss. I hope the interview goes well"
Mind you the statement I presented dats from May to October 2017 cos dat was what I sent to the school. Can I still use it to reapply in January? (Just wanna know if the statement could still be useful for a January application)

Please I would like to know where I got it all wrong. Thank you.

So sorry about your denial bro/ sis. Your interview to me was good but the statement of account you presented was wrong. VO's from my observation prefer Personal Bank statements of sponsors and not Company bank statement of sponsors.

If you can address this, kindly refire.

This is because I don't know how to ask them if the tuition waiver and free campus housing they offered me can still be available by the Fall semester.

The visa you can get anytime but I'm afraid those fundings might only last just 2017-2018 session. Fall 2018 would be 2018-2019 session, another allotment and application. Let them know about the hassle on time and see what they can come up with for you for the next session.

depending on location. Its not yet in New York
Actually talking about the amazon flexx

Is NY not part of U.S or they have different DHS rules concerning non immigrant visa categories? Your student SSN card carries, only for work under DHS authorization. Working outside campus without DHS approval is illegal in all the 50 states in U.S. Don't regret losing a life time opportunity because of one petty money from amazon flexx.

Ask this from those NIVs that are frequent here. Your student loan either Sallie Mae or not is a full liability of your cosigner if you use a cosigner.

Relax. Just go and recapture your prints.

That's all they ask for.

I know of someone exactly in your situation that was given a visa. start to process the loan application right away, if you're approved, take the approval document to the Embassy. If you go to the Embassy and say that you intend to fund your studies with loan and no document to show for it , it may be hard to believe.
Thank you I will give it a shot and also source for more funds if there any.. Cheers

My program starts on the 11th of January and my flight is scheduled for 10th, January and I am supposed to attend the orientation on the 11th, January. Do I face any POE challenge considering the fact that orientation is mandatory but classes starts on the 16th, January.

I'm assuming that the person has not applied to any school. Before you apply, you need some time to prepare for the test. Let's say you take the test by March, many (good) schools would have reached deadlines for the Fall semester by then. So you may not likely meet up.

Nonetheless, if you are from India or maybe China grin, you can prepare for a short time and meet up with January or February deadlines, depending on the school. Do you get?

Thanks so plentiful for the insightful feedback bro. That means I will be looking at Spring 2019 but I still need some clarifications on issues baffling me;

1. Will I apply for the GRE before hand or I must study for 2 to 3 months first and apply afterwards?
2. When exactly is advisable to apply to schools as I'm eyeing spring 2019 now?

1. You can first start preparing and when you know you are fit, then register for the test.

2. Check the websites of the schools for deadlines, then you can clear your GRE like three weeks before deadline and apply to the school before deadline.

Why do you assume, though, that I'm a bro. That's kind of sexist lol.

sir your loan not will not be considered as a proof of fund because you have to provide the lending company your visa b4 they can process the loan b4 u get approved .. So the only documents you may have to even use at the embassy is a pre approval letter of your loan which they may not consider as proof of funds. The second reason has been pointed out by someone here earlier You can't payback your loan except you work in the USA that means you have the intention of migrating which does not qualify you for an f1 visa .
You can get a soa from your family because even the school needs your soa b4 they provide you with i20 and all if u haven't gotten all those docs from the school you can't even apply for the loan talk less of a visa .
Good luck

there is no US immigration law that bars international students from getting loans from US banks. Simply tell them the truth. I assure you it won't hurt you at all except the person co-signing for you has criminal records....Is your loan application already approved?
Same way there is no law that bans you from doing OPT after your studies for 3years if you are in STEM, but when they ask your study plan at the VISA Interview, we 'lie' that we will come back and never mention OPT.

Check the program commencement date on your I-20. That is the important date before which you need to enter the United States. Don't worry, the school will do a make-up orientation.

This will probably be my last post on this.Do you plan to come back to Nigeria IMEDIATELY after your studies? 99% sure the answer is No, so why didn't you inform the VO about your OPT plans when he/she asked you your after study plan? Your guess is good as mine. Yes the law doesn't bar you from OPT or taking loans but common sense will tell you that talking about OPT or showing proof of approval of US loan facility shows you are an intending immigrant. He is not the first international student to take US loan and he wont be the last, what he is supposed to do is staring him in the face but he has failed to see it. If he successfully pulls this through, he should come back and inform the forum how he did it but if I were him, I wont take chances and waste 63k.Have a good day and compliments.

VOs and school officials are well aware of the fact that no education loan is totally approved until you start schooling, that's why people have gotten I-20s and even visas from the pre-approval letter. The fact that you're borrowing the money from the US does not make any difference at all, money is money irrespective of where it is borrowed from and that is why money can be sent to anywhere in the first place. Had it been that you must stay in the US to pay your loan, US govt would have barred international students from taking loans from their banks in the first place. My advice for fwesh is to use the loan approval doc if he can't get a legal SOA from a close relative. Don't forge documents if you can't get a legal SOA. people have gotten visas with loan, I don't see why your case should be different.

the reason international student are granted loans in the first place is because they have an American citizen or resident as a cosigner so indirectly they are not giving international student the loan but their cosigners. Government can not control the banks decision to lend money to whom ever they want to that's (have you heard of capitalism?)Second he can't even get the loan if he doesn't have his sevis number from his i-20 which he won't get until he provides the school with his proof of funds from a bank statements. Other students from India and wherever have acces to loans that they don't need an American cosigner to be granted .

You all are making the loan thing sound easy.

1. You can’t get a US loan as an international student without a US citizen/residents with very good credit score.

2. Indians get loans from their country and not in the US

3. How can you even go to the embassy there in naija with a US loan approval. I mean how did you get the loan approved without you being in the US proving a US address and maybe SSN. It’s technically impossible to go to Embassy with a US loan approval document. You have to be here first.

Prodigy Finance and MPower Finance give non-cosigner loans to Nigerians and they use their pre-approval letters to get visas without issues. I have shown examples of people here that got such loans. Why the fuss? If you cant get financial aid or SOA, you can get loans. Indians have been doing it since time immemorial without issues, Nigerians have been doing it and we have seen them here.

Prodigy finance is not an American company its the same as getting a loan from micro finance bank or where ever in your country second its easier to get a loan after your first year also these cooperation mostly offer loans to students going for graduate studies or are at least not in the first year of college . Now the companies that offer loans to first year students like discover, sallie, and co don't do that. List the amount of Nigerians you know that have used these companies pre approval as proof of funds at the embassy and school or even the so called prodigy finance. The Indians you keep talking about are not Nigerians and mostly have a different system if it was so easy we would have had a lots of stories we won't even be having this conversation
Also I am not saying this based on hear says alone.
