Re: , by Nobody: 2:56pm On Dec 31, 2017 |
Obalende:You spoilt your write up with saying "I will not speak against the current administration...." Like seriously? You're guilty of the same thing you're accusing Nigerians of. The same administration where the president has spent more time in UK hospitals enjoying medical tourism than on what he is being paid to do. I don't blame you. You're either a political jobber or it's the same cursed Nigerian blood running in you that is making you say the current administration is working to turn Nigeria into an eldorado. Rossikk:not as expensive we are just not into trying new things constantly. There are grasses that could be planted and the major cost is a lawn mower but we prefer concrete.OAU had grasses planted in most surroundings for a long time. |
Re: , by Twy: 3:28pm On Dec 31, 2017 |
Rossikk:don't fall into this type of thinking. It is called research and caring for the environment. We like statism or the devil I know is better. A lot of countries do not even use indigenous grasses. you can find grasses suitable for most regions with adequate rainfall. Actually almost all parts of the world have fauna. In the north there are plants that will flourish. Actually there are two major plants if maintained will stop desertification in the most arid regions because they do not need much water. Your leaders know this but we are what I call organic and fresh, we do too little tinkering with things. 2 Likes |

I discussed a similar issue with a foreigner. One issue is value, we place too much value on our interest so when we enter into any form of exchange, we have to find a way to extract the most value or gain at the expense of any other party or parties. If we want to sell the preferred way is to sell the cheapest at a considerable higher price or sell quality good at a ridiculous price beyond the benefit to the buyer. A contractor or government employee job is to provide the most gain to his interest greater than the value to the job or the public. An employer is to pay the lower wage and extract a higher benefit. We are in a circle of seeking to extract the most gain by providing little. 2 Likes |

agongajoseph: You're an illiterate and a dunce. Go and educate yourself Mr white worshipper. Do you know that if you are driving through the English countryside you will find grass like lawns all around you, even in the so called bush where nobody is? BECAUSE IT GROWS NATURALLY. Stay there thinking that the people waste time there planting lawns in the bush. When those of us who have lived and worked there are educating you dunderheads, your block head will still reject the info in order to elevate them to 'superior beings'. Mumu. |

yanshDoctor: Present the proof. Mr semi-literate, quack scientist. just like the dogs. some species sensitive and intelligent than others. There is no evidence that one colour of dog is more intelligent than another colour of dog. The very thought of it indicates MADNESS and LUNACY. You need a psychiatrist. Anyway, so long as you agree that YOU are inferior as well as your parents and siblings, to the next white guy you see, that's cool. Just leave me and other sane people out of your mental disease. I actually pity your children, as they will have a self-hating black man with inferiority complex as a father. Sad. |

Twy: Talk, talk, talk. Provide the grass seeds let us see. Nobody is saying you cannot plant grass or have a lawn in Nigeria. The argument is that it is UNECONOMICAL to the majority of Nigerians to invest in a lawn because grass does not grow naturally on Nigerian soil. It needs to be actively cultivated, planted, maintained. And that is after you've found the right seedlings, at considerable expense! Compare that to the situation in Europe, where NONE of those factors come into play and all you need to do is mow that natural grass growing wild all around you and creating a lawn from that!! That is why everywhere in Europe is green and garden like. The people there have NOTHING to do with it!!! It is NATURE. Expecting Nigeria to be like that is INSANE, because you are asking the average Nigerian to INVEST MONEY and TIME in finding appropriate seeds to buy from goodness-knows-where, creating/maintaining lawns. And worse, some fools are using that not happening as a 'sign of black inferiority!!!'' I mean, it's outrageous. You folks need to rid yourselves of racial inferiority complex. It is really destroying your sense of reasoning. |

substantial323: More ignorance on display. Here, let me educate you on African soil types as described by scientists, and tell us if it equates with the type of soil you find in California and Nevada USA. African Soil Types By Thomas West Even though it is one of the largest continents, Africa and its constituent countries have consistently lagged behind the rest of the world in both economic and agricultural development. This is due in large part to the types of soil that can be found in Africa, many of which (though not all) are sandy and arid, making them largely unsuitable for agricultural production on any substantial scale. Histosols This African soil type is only found in a small area on the continent, including the coast of West Africa and Madagascar. This type of African soil tends to be acidic. It is typically composed of incompletely decomposed plant material, along with sand or clay. Although not as productive as some soils, histosols can be used for grazing and for some agricultural use if managed well. Andisols The andisols are some of the most productive types of soils in Africa, and they are predominantly composed of various materials ejected from a volcano (such as ash and pumice.) As a result, the regions with this kind of soil are agriculturally productive. They are primarily found along the Great Rift Valley. Arenosols This type of African soil is found in several regions throughout Africa, particularly around the Kalahari Desert. This soil is often composed of sand, and as a result is often not fertile. Because of this, this type of soil is mostly used for grazing, although it is possible for subsistence farming to be undertaken on this soil with proper irrigation. Vertisols These soils are found along the rift from Sudan to South Africa. Because they are composed largely of clay, they become hard during the dry season and sticky during the wet season, with the result that they are difficult to till, reducing agricultural productivity. Ferrasols This type of African soil is typically found in the tropical regions, mostly Central Africa. Although these soils are quite stable physically, they are chemically poor, and the nutrients are typically held in the biomass so that plants are not able to access them. These soils withstand erosion well, but they do require a great deal of irrigation and other agricultural work to be productive. Aridisols This type of African soil occupies a substantial portion of the continent, with most estimates placing it at approximately 26 percent. This type of soil occupies a number of environments, including dunes, salt pans, and rocky lands. Because these soils are sandy and arid in composition, the soil is mostly unusable for agriculture. https://www.ehow.com/list_7422176_african-soil-types.html Now, expecting NIGERIA to have nice lawns everywhere you look, under the soil conditions described above, is madness. Educate yourselves and stop feeling less than others for no reason. |

Re: , by Rossikk(m): 9:52pm On Dec 31, 2017 |
1freshdude: Actually YES, EUROPE'S SOIL IS LIKE 2O TIMES more fertile than African SOIL. FACT. Look it up. Go and read Jared Diamonds's Guns, Germs and Steel. He explains why Africa has always struggled with food, water production etc The KEY to which region is developed versus not developed, has to do with SOIL/CLIMATIC QUALITY. Studies have even shown that only about 4 or 5 out of the edible animals on earth can be domesticated in African conditions, compared to 20 or more in Europe, America and Asia. That is why in Europe you can raise Turkey, Sheep, Goats, Chickens, Cows, Pigs, Ostrich, Buffalo, Ducks, and many many more animals, under natural conditions. In Africa, it stops at cow, goat, chicken and bush meat. Finish. The rest you need substantial capital investment that often makes it uneconomical. |
Re: , by 1freshdude: 9:55pm On Dec 31, 2017 |
Rossikk: What has cow, chicken and turkey raising got to do with planting green grasses, urban planing and order-liness? Are you talking arable land or animal rearing? You just dey muddle everything. And stop saying silly things, though off the topic, how many edible animals do you personally know that thrive in Nigeria, are they not more than 4 or 5? What are you saying Mr? 1 Like |

acorntree: Now listen to me to understand better how Nigerian Universities work. Lecturers hardly have time for Research & Development because of the nature of their work. They teach, give assignments/tests/exams, mark, record and evaluate the students who are in their hundreds & thousands. Because of their tight schedules & the large number of students per lecturer, it takes the grace of God for them to engage in serious research except they use final year or post graduate students project work to get the compulsory 15 publications that qualifies them for Professorship alongside the mandatory 12years lecturing experience. For this reason, it is advisable to create another cadre for Research & Development staff who won't be distracted by classroom works filled with hundreds / thousands of students per lecturer. |

1freshdude: Name the animals in Nigeria/West Africa that can be domesticated for consumption under natural conditions. Very very few compared to Europe, Asia, and the Americas.. FACT. Excerpts: ''Thus, one can explain as follows the reasons why the people who spread around the world were Eurasians, not Aboriginal Australians or Native Americans or sub-Saharan Africans. The reasons had nothing to do with differences in the peoples themselves. Instead, the reasons were continental differences in the available wild plant and animal species suitable for domestication, resulting in earlier domestication of a more productive suite of domesticates in Eurasia, plus Eurasia’s east/west axis that facilitated the spread of those domesticates throughout Eurasia.''
