Wenger on English referees

'There are two countries in Europe where you have professional referees, in Italy and in England, and not one English referee will go to the World Cup.

'But everything is all right. We cannot say a word against it because they're untouchable. That is the truth. It's not only me that judges them.'

CHAN 2018: Panic Grips Home Eagles Ahead Final Squad Announcement

By Adeboye Amosu :

There is a air of apprehension in the home- based Super Eagles camp as the day for the submission of the final list for the 2018 African Nations Championship in Morocco draws near, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The deadline set for submission of the final list by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is January 3 2018, same day Home Eagles coach , Salisu Yusuf is expected to release his final 23-man list for CHAN 2018.

Competition for places in the team has been fierce with majority of the players churning out impressive performance in training on a daily basis.

Completesportsnigeria.com scooped from a reliable camp source that majority of the players are keen to know their fate and can’t wait for the squad announcement.

“I can confirm to you that majority of the players are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the final list for the CHAN tournament,” the source informed Completesportsnigeria.com.

“There are some of them who are regulars who know that, barring injury or any unforeseen circumstances, they will make the team to Morocco, while there are quite a number of them who are not sure of their status and are keen to know their fate.

“I must commend all the players in camp for their spirited efforts, but it’s unfortunate that not all of them will have the privilege of travelling with us to Morocco.”

The Home Eagles are expected to depart for Rabat, Morocco on Wednesday for the final lap of their preparation for the competition.

They are drawn in Group C with Rwanda, Libya and Equatorial Guinea.
The competition will start on January 12 and end February 4.

Moroccan Club Moghreb Tétouan Chase Chikatara

0 December 31, 2017 9:35 pm

By David Meshioye:

Inactive Wydad Casablanca striker Chisom Chikatara tops the list of players wanted by rival Moroccan club Moghreb Tétouan, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.
Moroccan outlets reported on Sunday that Chikatara could be heading to Tetouan after coach Youssef Fertout expressed his readiness to sign the Nigerian next season.
MT coach Youssef Fertout is a former Wydad player and physical trainer at Wydad before moving to Tetouan. It is believed among Wydad officials that the deal could eventually see the light of day given the coach’s familiarity and close relationship that exit between both parties.
Other players wanted by MT are defender Fadh Aktaou and Naim Aarab.

Chikatara joined the Red and White side in 2016 after a scintillating performance at CHAN 2018 in Rwanda but failed to rediscover his form at Wydad. He dropped to fifth in the pecking order of strikers at the club and played nine matches with a goal since leaving Abia Warriors.

ROUND-UP: Iheanacho Ends 2017 With No EPL Goal, Aluko Extends Drought; Obi Starts Again

1 December 31, 2017 12:46 pm

By Johnny Edward: Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho ended the year 2017 without scoring an English Premier League goal, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The 21-year-old Nigerian was left out of Leicester City’s match day squad that lost 2-1 at Liverpool on Saturday.

Mohammed Salah scored a second half brace to cancel out Jamie Vardy’s third minute opener.

Iheanacho featured in 16 EPL games in 2017 (seven for Manchester City and nine appearances for Leicester City) and has failed to find the back of the net.

Iheanacho’s last league goal in the English Premier League was on 26 December, 2016 against Hull City at the KCOM Stadium when he replaced Nolito to score his fourth goal of the season.

Iheanacho was however prolific for the Super Eagles in 2017, scoring four goals in seven games for the national team.

Saturday also saw Wilfred Ndidi make his 21th start of the EPL season for Leicester City. So far in 2017, Ndidi has made 38 appearances in the English Premier League for the Foxes while Ahmed Musa was named on the substitutes bench for the first time this season on Saturday. Musa is yet to feature for Leicester City this season in the EPL.

Victor Moses on his part played for 57 minutes for Chelsea in their 5-0 rout of Stoke City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. It was his 14th start of the league campaign for the reigning champions.

At Vicarage Road, Isaac Success was left out of Watford’s squad that lost 2-1 to Swansea City with their new manager Carlos Carvalhal in charge.

In the English Championship, Ola Aina played the whole pf Hull City’s 2-2 home draw with Fulham. It was his 24th start for the Tigers this campaign.

Sone Aluko featured for Reading who drew 1-1 with Barnsley away. The Nigerian international came on for John Swift in the 60th minute of the draw.

The game also saw Aluko extend his goal drought to 10 games for Reading this season.

Aluko, who has scored twice in 20 English Championship games this season for Reading, last scored in their 4-2 win over Derby County on the 4th of November, 2017.

In Italy, Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi made his 11th Serie A start of the season for Torino in Saturday’s goalless draw with Genoa. Umar Sadiq was an unused substitute for the game.

Orji Okwonkwo was also benched for Bologna’s 2-1 loss at home to Udinese. Okonkwo has scored three goals in nine Serie A games.

In Scotland, Efe Ambrose was in action for Hibernian who played out a 1-1 at home to Kilmarnock. It was his 23rd appearance for Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership this season. He has one goal to his name so far.

Junior Ajayi Savours CAF Eleven Feat, Eyes Spot In Super Eagles’ Russia 2018 Squad

By Adeboye Amosu

Al Ahly forward, Junior Ajayi, is happy with his inclusion in the 2017 Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Team of the Year and has set his sights on securing a place in Nigeria’s squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Ajayi who got married in Lagos to Tamilore Tawakalat Salami in an elaborate wedding ceremony on Saturday, beat Liverpool forward Saido Mane and Algeria’s Yacine Brahimi in the offensive midfield position.

The 21-year-old former Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan striker got 64 per cent out of 7,261 of votes cast, Mane secured 20 per cent, while Brahimi got 15 per cent.

“I want to start by thanking the fans who voted for me. It’s a big honour to be named in the CAF team of the year ahead of some established stars in the continent.”Ajayi told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“It’s always good when you get recognised for your effort on the pitch and this will spur me to even get better.

“The World Cup is coming up next year in Russia and it will be great to be part of the team.

” I will keep working hard and hopefully, the recognition will come at the end of the day.”

Ajayi was part of Nigeria U-23 team that won the African title in Senegal in 2015 and bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Moses Makes France Football Magazine Team Of The Year

1 December 31, 2017 9:05 am

By Adeboye Amosu: Nigeria winger, Victor Moses, has been named in the highly rated France Football magazine Africa X1 for 2017, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Moses enjoyed a successful campaign with English Premier League outfit Chelsea, helping the Blues win the title in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge of the club and making it to the final of the FA Cup where they lost 2-1 to London rivals Arsenal.

He is the only Nigerian in the list that also has the likes of legendary Egypt goalkeeper Essam El- Hadary, Senegal’s Saido Mane and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah.
The former Wigan star was picked in midfield along with Naby Keita of Guinea and Ivory Coast’s Jean -Michael Seri

The authoritative magazine stated on their website that Moses who made his 100th appearance for the West London club in their Boxing day clash against Brighton was recognised for his impressive showing for both club and country.

“Under the direction of Antonio Conte, this right-winger has managed an astonishing tactical conversion into a club, where he has fully blossomed into a defensive role as well as offensive. A champion with the Blues, he has also taken a leading role in the Super Eagles qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup in Russia where he will be one of the great African attractions.”

The selection will come as consolation to Moses after he missed out on BBC African Footballer of the Year Award, which was won by Salah and his omission from the final three-man shortlist for the 2017 CAF Award

THE FULL 11
Essam El-Hadary (Egypt), Nabil Dirar (Morocco), Mehdi Benatia (Morocco), Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal), Faouzi Ghoulam (Algeria) ,Victor Moses (Nigeria), Naby Keita (Guinea), Jean-Michael Seri (Cote d’Ivoire) ,Mohamed Salah (Egypt), Vincent Aboubakar (Cameroon), Sadio Mane (Senegal)

Super Eagles’ Dele Ajiboye demands World Cup chance

Goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye has said he is in the form of his life and he only needs a top game with the Super Eagles to prove he is good for the World Cup.

Ajiboye is set to be part of the squad to the forthcoming CHAN in Morocco and he said he is in great shape for the championship strictly for those featuring in their domestic league.

“I am in the best form of my life as our goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu has pushed and drilled us and this has brought out the best in me,” he said.

“The only thing I need now is to get a game with the team to prove just how good I am now.”

The former Nigeria U17, U20 and Olympic team shot stopper was outstanding as Plateau United made history by winning a first-ever NPFL championship this past season.

He further said he hopes to use the CHAN to get back into serious reckoning in the main Super Eagles in time for the World Cup in Russia.

“I have worked very hard in pre-season and believe in myself,” declared the agile goalkeeper, who has posted a stint in Spain.

“We will have a great CHAN and after that I will shift my attention to the World Cup.

“I hope to give everything to be in Russia.”

Ajiboye was part of the Super Eagles set-up, but was overlooked for the team’s last games – a final World Cup qualifier in Algeria and a friendly against Argentina in November.

*walks in with a torchlight and goes to nearest switch to turn on the lights*

First of all, before anything else, I just wanna apologise to the family of this thread for my long absence no thanks to the big issue of last time. Truth is, I should have made my return after we beat ARGENTINA in that top class friendly but I couldn't because I was so caught up in the business end of my scholarship studies for the year ending period of 2017. Aside that also, I was so locked up in some project plans and some more engagements. I just couldn't make out time for Socials anymore.

Thing is, I'm pass that dark issue now and I am back to say "It was a pleasure walking with several of you in 2017, I know the value of life and what it means to wake up everyday and still be alive. It is a miracle and a Joy that before I left back then, I had not witnessed the death of any one member. But from a quick scan backwards on this thread, I understand that lovely folks like Sir TheGoodJoe and one more moniker (was it Sir Do4LuV14? Please forgive me, I am not sure) lost their fathers. Please accept my condolences even though they come very late. And Sir TheGoodJoe, I am sorry that you had to go through that and I was not even around. I am sure your father was already proud of the fantastic, super intelligent and awesome man you have become and are still growing into. It is well Sir. And to the other fellow who witnessed same loss, I have no true words to say but it is well. Be strong. Make him smile even in his sleep with how you live and how you run this race called life. Just make him proud. All is well."

So yeah, to some who may be shocked to read my comments, I say, deal with it grin *Winks* *smiles* *rubs palms*

Sir Joseph1013, I got your mentions Sir. Please take very good care of you outside the shores of Nigeria, wherever you are. Without your threads discovered in 2015 by me via google, I would not be on NL. Thanks for your mentions and for somehow not judging me when I do get really pissed at some happenings here. wink When I walked in here, I address every one by the title of Sir because where I come from, it is a mark of respect not minding if I may be addressing my junior or senior. Well, how do I know? I am 25 now... lol To think I was 23 when I walked in on NL... cool memories. cheesy

Chief Icon4s, at least I told you something before. I told you that in the end, The passion and drive for the GWG won't keep me away for so long. But I really needed that break. But it is good to still see you and some beautiful others still digging it strong here on NL's best thread.

Sir Mujtahida, I got your mention(s) too. Thy poetic ingenuity mixed with the knowledge of one so versed in the words amd dynamics of history and world affairs make you one to always behold in writings. I told you when you walked in here that I could spot already thy poetic magnificence. Well, now that is super obvious to all. wink You nicknamed me VicMo of the thread one time. But with my absence and using Sir Komekn's analysis of a few months being like a year in football, then I wonder if such nickname still holds true. cheesy

But this year some of una must upgrade oooo. Haba! Silent crew for 15 years?? Nooooooo we cannot take this! angry

From TheSupernerd, loved by some, hated by some, and just not gotten/understood by a few others. To most, he is just TheSupernerd.

Choose love over hate. It makes you live longer. wink Happy new year to you all. I know there are a few here who would have love to hear my analysis on how I would have broken down the physics and magnificent angles to the execution of Iheanacho's freekick against World Class Argentina. grin Hey! I know okay. Deny it but I know cheesy

But in all.... what is this thread about? It is for the progression and the Glory of Nigerian football through all the seasons of the good, the bad and the ugly leading up to the transition from the maggot/caterpillar stage to the stage of the beautiful butterfly.

We are a team in evolution and we are young and threatening. I believe in this team and I know what our teamwork is capable of producing. So you can keep castigating and you can keep defending your favorite players but what truly matters is that this team grows into a formidably powerful force as a team.

The Super Eagles gave me cause to smile a lot last year and in Russia, I dare say you all (except a few) will be in for a shocker on what this team will go on to achieve. I just pray we maintain our rise and positive transformation.

It is finally here. The year of the big baptism of Nigeria's next golden generation.

Happy new year once again.

*And no apologies for the long essay. I will never change* wink

But with my absence and using Sir Komekn's analysis of a few months being like a year in football, then I wonder if such nickname still holds true. cheesy

Sir Joebie, My Joebie... grin Where is Madam? Gosh what is her moniker again? I call her the "My Joebie" Moniker. The ladies' man. wink Happy new year Sir. Read earlier this morning where you compared me to Vincent Enyeama.... Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha... and Sir Kennysville was like, "You never see anything" loooollll

You guys are fucking crazy I swear! Hahahahahahahahaha.... Me I no be Enyeama oooooo. For me, the whole is more important than the glory of one. I hope Enyeama can understand that. wink But somehow, when I was away, I had a hunch that soon someone may compare my absence to Enyeama's matter. Chaaaiiiiii... plssss oooo we are not on the same page.

Honorable mention for newbies:Jarus, darkelf

Thanks guys. This thread is my NL Discovery of the Year 2017. Not aware of it before.

Happy to see that you guys successfully activated my failed attempts to have active discussions on Nigerian players since 2007/2008 when I gave up after many failed threads.

One guy, his username I can't recall, also did well by doing a thread on weekly performance of Nigerian players abroad some 4-5 years ago. He held on for 2 or 3 years before the thread also died.

European club football the culprit again.

You guys are too much. I salute your depth of knowledge of Nigerian footballer. I'm a learner here, especially on these Nigerian young foogballers in Engkand and Germany, some of whom I heard about for the first time on this thread.

I'm more of an established player person. Don't monitor upcoming so much.

I'm also as enthusiastic of African football as I am of Nigerian, hence my broader outlook here. I follow players from other African countries too. That is why my arguments are more pan-African than pan-Nigeria.

I know objectivity itself is subjective but I try to be objective in my analysis, one of the few Nigerians who don't believe Moses deserved a Top 3 spot in APOTY 2017.

We have a lot to discuss in 2018 - World Cup, AFCON qualifiers, CHAN etc.

I will try and keep up the Player Rating after SE matches which I have been doing since 2012.

Objection!!!! When last did u see him play? smileyHow many league matches have u watched? grin Are u saying this because he won a fan voted award? wink

Haha

I am not like all those that make calls based on what they hear, read or what they see a fan say.

Junior Ajayi participated fully in the just concluded CAF champions league. I watched a couple of his games. He is a more improved player than what we saw at U23.

Apart from the Fans voted award his CAF awards nomination speaks volumes.

Also I personally rate the Egyptian league higher than the Israeli league. What is the level of football development in Israel compared to Egypt?

U think say na like Sokari own?

Let me ask you, if Sokari na pure gold, wetin you go call Junior Ajayi?

Nothing in the past matters any more. You are home now. That is what matters.

We have decided to watch each others' back to avoid a reoccurrence.

*Home again?* *Why are the lights still out? where is everyone?*

But with my absence and using Sir Komekn's analysis of a few months being like a year in football, then I wonder if such nickname still holds true.

To Safarigirl, NLSports' first lady. An Amazon in the midst of Men. Happy to see you alive and kicking well in 2018 too. Remember what I told you when I first met you? Okkkkaayyyy.. don't worry, that's for the closet. wink

To another beautiful mind on here... Maybe it is because his comments are not a as regular judging by what I have read in the past few pages this morning. Sir BascoVanVeli still remains of the most favorite persons I always wanna see comment. Funny how going by nominations I am seeing now that many do not seem to remember that BascoVanVeli is a champion for he homebased. Infact, one of the thread's undercard debate matches is most times between The amiable and Legendary Sir Tbaba1234 and Sir BascoVanVeli (Master of the sarcastic wink )

I just dey look una. angry

Sir Tbaba1234, Tbaba12345, should I add 6 & 7? wink Happy new year to you too. Still dropping those one or two lines as ever huh? This legend is super consistent. grin

My Happy new year messages go to you all.... I could write on each and everyone here. But please understand why some just have to get very special mentions.

Sir Terzurum5, Creator of NL's finest sports thread.

Sir Orkpekyandega, Where have you guys hidden this dude?

Sir Icon79, Sir, I think you Berra add "Not Icon4s" to your moniker to "dis-confuse" the newbies and some others still left on limbo on who is who between you two. looooll. Calls me nerdie. Hahahahahahahahaha...

Sir Omanbala1, Gosh... I just saw your post on that little thread of mine. Well, thing is, I have been away. I had a very very busy end to 2017 with all I was engaged with. And it was for the greater good of My Life Vision and all. But I just could not stay away from spending the new year with you guys after missing Christmas and after missing The Argentina game which was the perfect opportunity for me to nail the coffins of some negative monikers here always pulling the team down. angry angry

Sir Forgiveness, You ehn!!!! If I catch you ehn! See Baba mi.. Egbon Sir... Berra go borrow vest from Batman oooo because Ilẹ ti malu kan ko ni ibamu fun oju-ẹja ti ẹja. angry

Happy new year Sir Forgiveness grin. Missed you like kilode... Hahahahahahahahaha

Happy new year to you all.....

The Ever optimistic AIG07, The Prophetic Napoleon55, The Lovely and caring Madam Confun, The Ever Critical Sir Goldfish80 (one time he really hoped Mbappe played for Cameroon so that we may be sent to the cleaners! looollll... yes he is ever critical but maybe na him way of gauging against unforseen heartbreaks. But he and his super critical crew should always learn to give credits when our boys actually rise up to the occasion. Biaaaa Sir Goldfish80, this 2018 ehn, Make I no talk grin ), ehen uhmmm.... still on happy new year roll call....

Happy new year to....

The guy always playing the role of my antagonist... Mickael2 grin Lol, humans sef wink , the one and only Elder Sir Kog45 (One of the guardians of the lost-but-found classified trolls of Nigeria's Football history), the One called SoetanOreoluwa (I no go lie, your name hard me first time I see am..), the ever super critical master of The borough club located with headquarters in London and branches scattered all over UK, Sir Komekn himself cheesy

Happy new year also to.....

Sirs: Dr.Likita (I thought I saw "m" before "f"? :-/), Chrismario, Chriskels, Jihday, Do4Luv14, Jarus (So the big guy finally came here... lol. Good to see he is also "very critical." Lol), Mikron, Kennysville, Certitude, Taliban, Elyte89 (funny dude! Wetin be your own sef? Almost every mention from you is "I hope this won't turn out like TheSupernerd scenario." Abi you he history police? cheesy ), Maidaboi (This beautiful guy. Where are you? I've missed you) etc etc (Please, I have been away for long, recalling all monikers here is a big ask... gosh! plsss pardon me if I never mention your name),

(Recalled before posting) Sirs: Danycrusoe, Gbosaa, TGlobal, EnigmaticMotik, BigBlangston, etc etc... Bon Annee Messieurs. smiley

Madams: Eseose9 (a ghost reader in 2017, biaaa upgrade in 2018 ooooo), and all female ghost readers like her.

And a big shout out to the all members of the Notorious Gang of silence upholding the flags and etiquettes of Silence and Stealth. #TheSilentCrew Una well done! Happy new year to una.

Welcome bro.....GO AND SIN NO MORE wink

A bit of caution here, Most Egyptian based players won the CAF votes. It was based on fans online votes. Al Ahly fans alone will help him win.

We will get a chance to see Nwakaeme again, i believe we did not see the best of him last time. Maybe Ajayi will also get a look in
