Humility017: If I remember correctly , it was baba Icons that said that most cadet players dont end up becoming what was anticipated of them and rightly so this has manifested and kept going. In the case of Omeruo, this guy was like a rock and great ball player during the U20 world cup that had Ajagun,Musa,Azeez, Kayode and co in the team and though we have finally found Uche Okechukwu replacement but lo and behold I watch Omeruo depreciated and was playing like grandpa. I think he is picking up his pieces and hopefully he makes the team. 2 Likes |

Mujtahida: You avoid the question completely, you are being evasive and slippery. I HAVE MADE IT INTRINSICALLY CLEAR I HAVE NOT CRITICISED Osimhen as a player. In actual fact there is nothing to critise, a player who may not have played up two hours of senior professional football all season. I CRITICISED THE SYSTEM THAT SELECTED HIM for the SE, now approach the question from the perspective of process management and quantitative measurement. Not from one you have created entirely from your own perception to further your own prejudiced view. With KC, my critique is towards him as a player who is supposed to lead the front line as a striker for the SE. It's been constructive as well as with several comparison. If you expect me to join his praise singers that think he is untouchable and can do wrong, that will not happen. He doesn't need encouragement and petting but constructive criticism to improve him and move him forward. With regards to this supposed criticism. You define it with your own standards of perception. To be objective and substantive why not quote me verbatim as opposed to making deductions without reference. Which are holistically misleading and prejudiced. |

Ex-Nigeria keeper dies Former Nigeria goalkeeper, Raymond King Idris Adesina Former Nigeria goalkeeper Raymond King has died on Monday at the age of 52. According to King’s former teammate, Taju Disu, the former Abiola Babes keeper died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, after he was transferred from the Ikorodu General Hospital. King was last week reported to be down with partial stroke and memory loss, and was initially admitted at the State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Disu said King was taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital after his health was not improving. He was later referred from there to LASUTH, Ikeja, where he gave up the ghost. “He was transferred from the State Hospital, Abeokuta to Ikorodu General Hospital yesterday (Sunday) when his condition was not improving. The news got to the Lagos State Commissioner for Health; he directed that King should be taken to LASUTH for better treatment,” Disu told our correspondent on the telephone. “On Monday evening, he got to LASUTH but we were initially told that there was no electricity to commence treatment. But when they eventually set up their equipment to treat him, he was already struggling to breathe and he later died. “Raymond was part of us and we tried to get the best of treatment for him but he has left us.” King, who hailed from Akwa Ibom State, worked with the Ogun State Sports Council. King was a member of the 1979/80 Flying Eagles and he played for Shooting Stars of Ibadan, who he helped to a second place finish in the African Champions Cup in 1984. He also won the 1987 FA Cup title with the defunct Abiola Babes of Abeokuta. He is said to be survived by a wife and four children. Copyright PUNCH. 1 Like |

Ameobi Returns, Aina In Action As Bolton Sink Struggling Hull 0 January 1, 2018 6:52 pm By James Agberebi: Super Eagles defender Ola Aina could not help struggling Hull City halt their poor English Championship run as they lost 1-0 away to Sammy Ameobi’s Bolton Wanderers on Monday. Aina played for 90 minutes while Ameobi, who missed Bolton’s last league game against Sheffield United on Saturday, made a return and also featured for 90 minutes. The only goal of the game was scored by Gary Madine in the 20th minute. The defeat means Hull have gone five straight games without a win in the Championship (three defeats, two draws). Their last win in the Championship was a 6-1 home victory against Birmingham City on September 30, 2017. Following the defeat to Bolton, Hull are now 21st on 24 points, one place above the relegation zone in the Championship table. 1 Like |

Benjani: Mikel, Moses, Iwobi Will Be Nigeria’s Key Players At Russia 2018 January 1, 2018 7:30 pm By Adeboye Amosu: Former Zimbabwe striker Benjani Nwaruwari believes getting the best out of the trio of Mikel Obi, Alex Iwobi and Victor Moses will play a key role in Nigeria’s aspiration of having a good outing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. The three players were instrumental in the Super Eagles’ qualification for Russia 2018. Captain Mikel led by example and scored crucial goals against African giants Algeria and Cameroon. Chelsea wing-back Moses netted four times in four qualifying games to prove his importance in the team, while Iwobi who plays in the English Premier League for Arsenal hit the back of the net twice, including the decisive winning goal against Zambia. Benjani who had stints with clubs in France, England and South Africa during his active days stated that the three players are the Eagles’ key men. “The Super Eagles have a lot of good players in their team but I believe Mikel, Iwobi and Moses are the most important players in the side,” the former Portsmouth and Manchester City star told Completesportsnigeria.com. “They will be crucial to whatever Nigeria achieve in Russia and it will important for the coach (Gernot Rohr) to get the best out of them. “If they hit top form in Russia, then I believe the Super Eagles will go far in the competition.” 1 Like |

Benjani: ‘Tough’ Super Eagles Will Advance From 2018 World Cup Group By Adeboye Amosu in Kano: Former Zimbabwe forward Benjani Mwaruwari has tipped the Super Eagles to make it beyond the group stage at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia but warned the players to stay disciplined on and off the pitch and avoid fighting with officials over bonuses, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. Nigeria’s participation at the mundial has often been marred by in-fighting between players and officials of the football federation over bonuses. The Super Eagles were embroiled in bitter dispute with federation officials at the 1994 and 1998 editions of the World Cup in the United States of America and France respectively which hampered their progress in the competition despite promising starts. The issue repeated itself at the 2014 World Cup draw n Brazil with the players boycotting training over dispute. However, the current NFF have signed a bonus agreement with the players to avoid distractions in Russia. “I believe the Super Eagles have what it takes to qualify from their group,” the former Portsmouth of England striker told Completesportsnigeria.com. “Argentina and Croatia are very strong with top quality players. Argentina with Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero will be difficult to beat, while Croatia have Luca Modric and other quality players. “But if you look at the Super Eagles, they have a lot of young and quality players too which will make them tough opponents for any team in Russia. “I see them doing well in Russia but they have to do things with discipline. They must avoid unnecessary squabbles over money which has affected their performance in previous competitions. “It is an African thing and I hope the football federation in Nigeria and other African countries will learn from their past mistakes. ” The Super Eagles will face Croatia on June 16 at the Kaliningrad Stadium in their opening game in Russia 2018. Their second group game is against Iceland on June 22 at the Volgograd Arena, while their last group fixture is against Argentina at the Krestovsky Stadium, St.Petersburg. 6 Likes |

"Zlatko Dali, Crotia's national team coach, has revealed that his team will play a friendly game against an African team with similar playing style as the Nigerian team". Think that's their last friendly before the opener against Nigeria. Senegal will give them physicality and pacey run on the wings. |

Omeruo: Super Eagles Must Beat Croatia In Russia 2018 Group Opener By David Meshioye: Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo insists that beating Croatia in their Group D opener is key to Nigeria’s progress to the knockout stage of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. The Super Eagles open their campaign against Croatia before facing Iceland and Argentina. “I still believe Nigeria can make it through no matter what,” Omeruo told Completesportsnigeria.com. “Argentina is a tough opponent while Croatia and Iceland won’t come cheap but we have a very good chance of qualifying from our group as long as we get our act right from the start. “We just have to win our first game against Croatia and the rest will be easy. soetanoreoluwa:Yes a friend to Tajudeen Disu who is coach Tunde Disu junior brother.Tajudeen Dish was member of U 20 at mexico 83 Raymond King was a pioneer member of U 20 team which included Stephen Keshi as a school boy in 1978 but the team failed to qualify for the tournament in 1979 that gave rise to Diego Armando Maradona. He played for shooting stars and moved to Abiola Babes when shooting stat was disbanded for losing CAF cup final to Zamalek in 1984 by Colonel Oladayo Popoola the then Oyo state governor. He was a great goalkeeper in his days, forcing Best Ogedengbe to retirement by displacing him as number one at Abiola Babes but couldn't make it in the national team cos of availability of good keepers like Peter Rufai, Patrick Okala,Wilfred Agbonavbare. He would always be remembered in the history of Nigeria FA cup especially his heroic performance for Abiola babes in the FA cup final in 1985 and 1987 and historic own goal scored by Toyin Ayinla against Leventis United. Raymond King was a great rival to Edward Ansah of Leventis United, this was a period of good rivalry between Leventis united and Abiola babes and the two keepers were solid.Edward Ansah later kept for Black star but King had stiff competition from Peter Rufai, Agbonavbare Wilfred,Alloy Agu but if it's today definitely he would be the number one cos keeper like Ekena Ezenwa,Daniel Akpeyi are no match. 1 Like |

Ikpeba: Argentina Favourites In Nigeria’s World Cup Group; Croatia Tough By Adeboye Amosu: Former Super Eagles forward Victor Ikpeba believes the team must be at their best to make it beyond the group stage at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. Gernot Rohr’s men who will making their sixth appearance in Russia will feature in Group D along with Argentina, Croatia and debutants Iceland. “Argentina are clearly the favourites in the group but one can’t underrate Croatia and Iceland,” the former Monaco of France striker said during his analysis on SuperSport after the draw. “Croatia and Argentina are no pushovers and we have to be at our best to beat the two countries. ” The good thing is that we are playing Croatia first and then Iceland in our second game. Our target must be to get maximum points in the first game against Croatia as that will boost the confidence of players. “Then we must make sure we beat Iceland to avoid the pressure of having to beat Argentina in the last group game. “Personally, I think it is a fair draw for us.” 1 Like |

INTERVIEW – Ogu: Why I Believe Super Eagles Will Go Far At Russia 2018 World Cup Completesportsnigeria.com’s JOHNNY EDWARD gets Super Eagles and Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder, John Ogu talking, about his stint so far with the World Cup bound Gernot Rohr’s team. # You were an unused substitute in the Super Eagles’ first five games of the World Cup qualifying campaign, but finally got a chance to play in the dead-rubber clash against Algeria which ended 1-1. What went through your mind during those period? To be honest, nothing went through my mind during those period. I was there trying to stay prepared to give my best whenever the chance comes. I felt like that at some point, but the joy is that everyone was doing well and we were winning games. I’m happy that at the end of it all we qualified and I got a chance to play against Algeria. As a team, we played better. We were in control and coming out with a 1-1 draw was great. We were just out to do the country proud and I’m glad that it turned out well. # Did you lose faith in the system, especially with a self belief that you possess the quality to start games as well? Hmmm no. There wasn’t a time I lost faith in the system because of the qualitiies of players starting the games. Also my relationship with the manager gave me more confidence before I got my chance which was very key. I was just excited to be called up to the team and the fact that we qualified for the World Cup in Russia seamlessly. We achieved qualification without struggling a bit unlike in the past when we had so many difficulties. So for me, that was something to cheer about, rather than sulk on the bench. # The current Super Eagles managed to stay unbeaten during the World Cup qualifying campaign. Just how good is this team judging from how you all played against Argentina, in which you were a beast in the midfield? The win against Argentina says a lot about the Eagles and we won’t rest on our oars going into the World Cup. We have been together and we keep reminding ourselves we are here for a reason. Kudos to the coaches, the NFF and the fans who supported us all the way. First of all, the unity in the team has been key as we reach out for one another. Fighting for ourselves made us stronger too. The Super Eagles qualifying for Russia 2018 without losing was no fluke, and we showed that in the friendly against Argentina despite the fact that we were without five key players and the Argentine team paraded top quality players as well, regardless of Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuian and Mauro Icardi missing the game. # You have played in different formations at club level. How difficult or easy was it playing in a 3-5-2 formation with the Super Eagles against Argentina? It wasn’t difficult playing in the 3-5-2 formation, but the fact that the Super Eagles had one training session saw the team struggle in the first half. But we picked up in the second half and showed the class we were made off. Scoring four goals against an Argentine star-studded side isn’t a fluke at all. We worked it out with our bond. # Would you prefer the Super Eagles maintain this 3-5-2 formation when the missing players return, or rivert to the old 4-2-3-1? That is for the manager to decide. I’m just in the team to carry out his match-day plan. # Nigeria has faced Argentina more than any other team at the World Cup. Are you comfortable facing the La Albiceleste again in Russia, with the likes of Lionel Messi and Mauro Icardi in the squad? There are no easy teams all the teams that have qualified will be tough. We have to prepare for a game as it comes. It’s the World Cup and not a friendly, so other factors will come to play. It’s going to be Nigeria vs Argentina and not Lionel Messi vs Nigeria. As a team, we have the quality to break them down again even with the inclusion of Messi. They have had it smooth in the past, but it’s time to end that jinx against Argentina in Russia. # How far do you think the Super Eagles can go in Russia? It’s not going to be easy. We will be out there to win games and play quality football. We have the talent and quality to go far. # Watching the World Cup as a growing kid, tell us your best memory as a fan? Watching the world Cup as a fan was the game involving Nigeria and Spain in France 1998. We won 3-2, I remember the goal Sunday Oliseh scored won us the game. That team showed determination and great strength which is what we are also imbibing. We will go far in Russia. 3 Likes |

Mourinho response as regard Scholes criticism Mourinho said: “I don’t think he [Scholes] comments. He criticises – which is a different thing “Not everyone has to be phenomenal like he was. As a player he was phenomenal, but it doesn’t mean we all have to be phenomenal. “Sometimes Pogba plays very well, sometimes he plays well and sometimes he doesn’t play well. Pogba tries his best all the time. “It’s not Paul’s fault that he made much more money than Paul Scholes. It’s not Paul Pogba’s fault, it’s just the way football is.” And Mourinho added: “If Paul [Scholes] decides to be a manager one day, I wish that he can be 25% as successful as myself. “Fifty per cent is 12-and-a-half silverware, 25% is around six [trophies]. If he is 25% he will be quite happy.” Asked if he was frustrated by the number of high-profile ex-United players working in the media, Mourinho said: “I think they would love to be here, in the club. That’s a problem that I cannot resolve.” 4 Likes |
